Great video. I think my sons 1.5L Escape might be having the beginnings of this problem. I sure hope not. Misfire in cylinder 2 & 4. Vehicle has 51k miles. Dealership is trying to get out of doing the work on warranty. Said some nonsense about Powertrain warranty may not cover and it depends on what the issue is actually?!? As if a cylinder misfire is not a powertrain issue….. Gave them the TSB number, and they were arguing well that’s just a TSB, it’s not a recall…. Never said it was…. Sheesh….

Since you made me aware of this I have been watching for any evidence and I now have low coolant level and it appears that an update 21-2269 was put out 8 Sep 21. Ours is a 2017 Fusion and we are still under warranty, so I am going to call the dealership and get it in for repair...many thanks for the education!

Ford replaced my 2019 Escape 1.5 that only had 9000 miles on it and was only 11 months old. It’s been fine since. Hopefully they used the updated block without the coolant jacket between the cylinders. The car now has over 30,000 on it.

Hi! I just got my Ford Escape 2018 out from Ford Service Center today because of this issue. I would like to verify if this issue may re-occur after they removed and replaced the short block as per TSB 20-2100. The way I understand your video, this is a Ford Recall meaning a known issue. This should be a permanent fix? I am just so glad that Ford fully covered it with their warranty. I didn't pay a dime for this fix. I really appreciate your video. This got me well educated with what Ford has done with my car engine because I'm no mechanic and have no idea what they are telling me while the car is with them as well as what they will be doing to fix it. Thanks so much and more power!

We had a 2018 Ford Escape SEL with 64,000. We had a Cylinder 2 misfire. Ford told us we had coolant in #2. They want $5500 for short block 8k for a long block. We laughed at them, and they came back 2 days later saying that they would cover half. Laughed at them again and had the car towed out to a Toyota dealership where they gave us what we owed for the Escape and drove off in a brand new 2021 RAV4 XLE AWD. We had a 2013 Focus with transmission issues and Ford told us they worked all the problems out with the Escape. Ford lost a loyal customer of 8 years, it’s apparent they have issues and if they aren’t willing to fix it for free, then they no longer need my money. We had the escape serviced at Ford every 5k and have the folder of receipts to prove it, so don’t give me any shit about not taking care of the maintenance.

I owned a used Honda once with a leaking head gasket (or head) I that put coolant into a cylinder. The fluid level would get low, and it would not idle when started cold. You had to rev the engine for about one minute to keep it running while it warmed up. Then it would idle and ran well until it got low enough of coolant to overheat. A real pain. I pulled the head and sent it to a shop. It was not repairable. A new head was $1300 in 1992. Traded it in.

My daughter just had her 2017 2.0L Ecoboost engine replaced in her Escape under warranty. They did not say anything about whether the new engine has the new design that eliminates the coolant leak. Is there some way for us to confirm that the replacement block used will not have the same issue and reflects a permanent fix? We had planned to keep this vehicle in the family for many years.

Question, I have a 2017 fusion 1.5. Noticed the coolant temp dropping while coasting to a stop and struggled to get up to operating temp. Just replaced the thermostat and flushed the system adding fords new yellow coolant in the system. Great update, could really use your advise on my situation. I have a 2017 Escape with the 1.5L engine. Began to run rough, and engine light came on. Dealer said this is a recall, but because the engine lost only 2 lbs of PSI / 5 hours, it did not qualify for the Ford recall spec of 4 PSI / 5 hours....therefore Ford will not qualify this case for the recall. I'm trying to escalate this with Ford customer service, but that has been a total runaround with very uneducated and none willing to escalate customer service zombies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....thanks in advance.

Ford has spent 2 billion dollars on developing electric vehicles in the last several years. I would suspect that this was at the expense of developing and refining these EcoBoost engines. It's in the back of the cylinder head right behind the valve cover there's a silver sleeve that sits over it Literally just look right in the middle of the valve cover right behind it by the firewall and it's plugged in right above the exhaust manifold he's got any cylindrical aluminum coated sleeve you pull that back and then it's right underneath

not bad at all, about 70kmiles I've done a few turbos due to the wastegate rod pivot in the turbo wearing out but I have seen no serious issues I'm a fan of the NA 2.5L NON Turbo, never have issues with them

Here in Europe the 1.5 Ecoboost has been around for much longer. I have one in my 2016 Kuga (Escape) The issue is that Ford does not really care although the issue seems to be wide spread and keep hidden. I had issues in May 2020 with the missfireing P0302 and the dealer just checked and replaced ignition coil and all spark plugs. Coolant had been a little low. No talking about a bigger issue. Wasn't driving that much due to Cov19 so finally in September more Coolant was lost and I was told to observe and refill. Then in November I had enough. Asked them to in depth check. It came out with having to replaced the Shortblock with not even 50k km. Got mine replaced last week and hope the car has otherwise not suffered e.g. catalytic converter or sensors due to bad running of the engine. Fortunately I got the 5 year warrant so I am still covered although it could have been solved a lot earlier. A lot of people aren't that lucky and need to pay a big premium short after purchasing a not necessarily cheap car. The dealer told me that they have had several cases lately. I am wondering if the timing belt is also a necessary part to be replaced since it is a crucial part. Thanks for your videos. They clear up a lot of questions for an interested viewer.

The timing belt doesn't really wear like people think it does on these, I've got one in my stall right now with the same mileage that I'm actually pulling apart and I'm going to be doing a small video series on it the timing belt almost never wear out at that mileage
@JensKirch76
@JensKirch76 3 жыл бұрын
@@FordBossMe Thanks for the answer. Well, I think the timing belt is an important part and if there is a new block it should also extend on the maintenance and replacement cycle. Does the belt run in oil as on 1.0l Ecoboost engines? I have seen videos on those where the timing belt really wore out / fell apart due to using wrong oil or not keeping the replacement interval. If it shows up in the warranty repair notes then it should also be replaced and noted in the service profile. Just my opinion. Your videos will be interesting. Looking forward to it 👍

@@JensKirch76 but I can tell you right now even though it's not technically an item that has to be replaced, every time I do one of these engines that belt always gets done so the customer gets a fresh belt with their engine so the timing is always spot-on and the belt wears accordingly

How can you determine you build date. I have a 2019 Fusion 1.5 four tag says built 6/19. I did get a recall regarding possible cookies g fluid in cylinder, sure what exactly they did, only had the cat for an hits. I have had to add cooling fluid once, it was over an inch below the cold fluid line.

@@brittanysutton5465 so the only thing that I'll be able to find out is basically what type of engine you have because if it is the coolant intrusion the dealer has to pressure test the system to look for the leak some dealers don't have guys that are very well-versed in how to do this but if you're in a busy area this dealer should know what to look for P0302 cylinder 2 misfire and this does indeed show up on a lot of these vehicles Send me an email I will look and verify all of your information and then I would suggest that you have the dealer pressure test your cooling system and check in the cylinders over at 5 to 6 hour. And see if coolant shows up Loosely in the cylinder
