In every video of yours I've seen, when you discuss a topic, you explain pretty much EVERYTHING related to it. The most-essential filters, what they do, how to use them, the results you'll get, etc. You really are a great instructor. Antone who can make it to Brisbon should definitely take your course. Even professionals would benefit, if only for a refresher - which we all need now and then. Back in the film days, I had a TON of filters from a popular brand at the time that slid into a holder (which is a very convenient way to do it). Back then, filters were even more necessary, as the cameras didn't have all the features that digital cameras have, and Photoshop wasn't even a dream, then. Remember red and yellow filters for B&W photography? White balance-correcting filters, soft-focus, vignette, etc.? It's mostly all done in-camera or post-processing. But the three filters you mentioned today are still needed to get the best results. And, they're the three filters I carry in my filter case. Thanks for another outstanding video, Paul.

You are spot on, I also carried a bunch of filters with me that today can be emulated using Photoshop, but these three are essential even in the digital age of photography and image making. Thanks for your continued support and great feedback which is most appreciated. Paul 😀

Thanks Paul! I know I've watched this video before, but as I expand my range and gear, it has new meanings for me. While I have a mix of ND for my 2 existing lenses for my D3500 (35mm 1.8 & 28-300) I am adding a lens and your idea of buying to fit your largest lens and being able to mount to small diameter lenses REALLY makes sense.

I have just discovered your channel and couldn't be more pleased. I had been scrolling through videos looking for information to help me learn more about my camera, and not always understanding the explanations. Well, that is until I discovered Photo Genius; your videos do all of that and more. I've watched several already and am looking forward to getting out tonight for the sunset to try some of them out. Another bonus of your channel is getting to see glimpses of Brisbane, as it reminds me of our happy times living there. Thanks for the great explanations and demonstrations to make using my camera a more enjoyable process.

Very nice presentation. The NiSi system is nice. One filter I’ve found valuable is a reverse graduated filter. Very nice when capturing sunrise/sunset at the horizon.

Paul thanks for your video. I have been looking at filter systems in particular the NISI filters. As you mentioned I happen to have several sizes of lens to adapt to so the “step up/down” only makes sense. Thanks again.
@brucesmith91442 жыл бұрын
I have the NiSi filter holder and the kit came with step-up rings to adapt to a range of lens filter sizes from 58-82 mm.
@Jimgoodwin8462 жыл бұрын
@@brucesmith9144 yep I bought step up rings to cover all my different sized lenses too. This is an great system…I had one similar; years ago for my other SLR cameras but they have since gone out of business so I purchased the NISI system.
@brucesmith91442 жыл бұрын
@@Jimgoodwin846 Indeed it is. I use the NiSi filter holder but use Benro filters. That has worked well so far. Like the Benro because they are glass and won’t scratch like plastic filters and there appears to be no color shift.

It really depends on what you wish to capture within the scene, wide angle for "the big picture" or telephoto if yo wish to pick out a particular part of a scene.

rather than using the app to calculate the required shutter speed, why not adjust the shutter speed until the meter shows exposure is correctly balanced? Nice review, thanks
@photogenius3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, the meter does not work when using the bulb mode. This is because the camera cannot calculate the exposure because it does not know how long the shutter will be open for.
