Eternals answers the question why Doctor Strange let Snap happen. It was because of only BLIP Ajak was impressed by Humans and decided to save them. If Doctor Strange stopped Thanos by snapping, Eternals would have supported the emergence.

Here's an easter egg a lot of people may have missed. I wouldn't usually think of product placement as an easter egg, but the appearance of a box of Twinkie's in the spaceship near the end is a hilarious nod to the fact that, in the VERY FIRST issue of the Eternals, there was a full-page ad for Twinkie's that featured Captain America defeating the Red Skull through the power of...a Twinkie. It's true!

Re: the darwin statue, i think evolution was a big theme of the story. The ability to evolve was cited as the flaw in the celestial's design of the deviants. The eternals were supposed to be an answer to that, unable to evolve. Then the second half of the film showed that these eternals gained the ability to change and grow.
@malestorm234

Good observation! I like this a lot. It plays into humanity's role as well. Phastos gives them the plow one day, the next they're dropping atom bombs. But we also have the ability to change for the better. The Emergence would have put a halt to that evolution.

There're also only 7 Eternals left by the end of the movie. 6 if you don't count Sprite since she's been changed into human now (a RESTING Eternal.) Sidenote: that was a very clever way to deal with the fact that the actress will grow up and can't appear the same and ageless in future movies. Another sidenote: RIP Gilgamesh. Such a fun character. Like a much cooler smart Hulk. He & Thena had the most interesting interpersonal story, way more than Druig and Makkari or Ikarus and Sersi.

My big question is this: Who is the most powerful, who is in control, and who knows the most? The TVA, the Celestials, or The Watcher? Edit: I would also like to point out that the name "Tiamut" is probably coming from "Tiamat", a Babylonian sea goddess who represents primordial chaos. Also, while most of the Eternals have names similar to well known ancient deities, the name "Kingo" probably comes from "Kingu", a child of Tiamat (and Abzu, the primordial sky god). Tiamat gave Kingu gifts, such as a breastplate and the Tablet of Destinies (basically a cosmic legal document saying that Enlil is the supreme god). I'm not entirely sure how all of that could connect, but that's what I know of the mythological figures.
@davidbjacobs3598
@davidbjacobs3598 2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to gauge the Watcher's power, since he rarely uses it. He is likely on par with a Celestial, but of course they are a full race and would collectively be more powerful. Of course Watcher also has multiversal power, so maybe I'm wrong with that. The TVA is a different kind of power, in that they have good weapons and tech and bureacracy. If they actually fought a Celestial, they'd be wiped out no question. But their power comes from knowledge as well -- Kang basically knows what's going to happen. So it's kind of non-incidental. If we ever meet Eternity, Infinity, Oblivion, or Death, they will top all of these. If we meet the Living Tribunal, he's stronger than all of us. Then the Beyonders are maybe on par with LT. And the strongest, of course, is The One Above All... who is Jack Kirby.
@greywolf7577
@greywolf7577 2 жыл бұрын
The Watcher would be the most powerful except that he doesn't interfere. If the other two, the TVA is the most powerful because if they don't like what the Celestials do, they can just erase that timeline.

I'd also like to add that the word "Tiamat" is one letter away from the word "Kiamat" which in Indonesian, means the end of the world. I don't know if there's actually a connection or just coincidence but the history of human laguage fascinates me

Who ELSE were they gonna pair up with? The Celestials, wisely, made them a variety of different races so that they could connect with most of the different "types" of humans (hmm, no First Nations/Native American-looking Eternal, though), so that they could blend in when necessary. Just finished it. It’s not Top 10 MCU and maybe not in the top half of the franchise but for a film with such a controversial rating I was expecting something worse. Sure it’s long, heavy on the exposition, and one character had an arc right out of Invincible (which wouldn’t have been an issue if Eternals had released in 2020). But I was very impressed by the cinematography and I enjoyed the cast (particularly Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, and Brian Tyree Henry). Marvel took a gamble, it wasn’t a complete success but the parts that worked I thought worked so I hope Marvel keeps taking risks and continues the stories of several of these characters

I didn’t love the film, but I didn’t hate it. I liked it though for sure. It’s a beautiful story with a great cast, but I thought it was very complex that it was ultimately to big for itself. They could’ve taken this story and spread it out into 2 films instead of cramming it all into 1. The cast like I said was great and each had there moment to shine, but I felt when something big happened in the movie I didn’t get to excited or sad because these characters are so new to MCU I didn’t have an emotional connection with them. On the bright side it really opened up the MCU to so much more and the post credits scenes were great and set up a lot by the end of the film. It’s one of the most different films marvel has every made.

Yep.... The first film should have started from their arrival on earth and should have ended at their separation in 1521 (Basically, the flashback sequences of this movie with some additional content such as Druig and Makkari's chemistry) This film should have been made somewhere in the Phase 3 And, the second film (a Phase 4 Movie) should have started from another wave of Deviants after the blip and should have ended where it ended (Basically, this movie WITHOUT the flashback sequences and with some additional content) This would have made a "more than four" (exciting) hours with our beloved Eternals

I loved this film, but I totally agree with you that it could have been 2 films or even a TV series. Within the "big budget deconstructed superhero" genre, including Justice League Snyder Cut, Watchmen (the movie), etc, I think this is the deepest and most resonant for me. Although Snyder's comic book visuals are unparalleled and he excels at creating amazing atmospheres, I think Eternals film evokes a much deeper sense of mythological grounding. It also touched upon complex aspects of human nature in very beautiful, poetic ways.

But i've heard that in the comics eternals died and then were brought back somehow so.. Makkari is easily the best live action speedster. Her fight scene against Ikaris was PERFECT Ikaris was also REALLY great. Also his fight scenes were so well made And ofc other characters were also so interesting and good but yeah 9,8-10/10 for me. Easily in my top 3 favourite marvel projects Edit: and also the runtimr didn't bother me. I loved the whole 2,5h. The more aliens-interfering you add to Earth's history in the MCU, the more fun this could all get, but there's also the risk of it all not holding up as well, if the writers of various films and series don't consult with each other or pay attention to the details in everything that's come before. If the Marvel Television era stuff still counted, then we'd also have the Kree messing around with human DNA and creating The Inhumans (I know the Celestials did the same to humans to create The Eternals in the comics, and this similarity is probably why The Eternals were made to be synthetic beings in the MCU instead).
