Here's an easter egg a lot of people may have missed. I wouldn't usually think of product placement as an easter egg, but the appearance of a box of Twinkie's in the spaceship near the end is a hilarious nod to the fact that, in the VERY FIRST issue of the Eternals, there was a full-page ad for Twinkie's that featured Captain America defeating the Red Skull through the power of...a Twinkie. It's true!

Re: the darwin statue, i think evolution was a big theme of the story. The ability to evolve was cited as the flaw in the celestial's design of the deviants. The eternals were supposed to be an answer to that, unable to evolve. Then the second half of the film showed that these eternals gained the ability to change and grow.
@malestorm2343 жыл бұрын
Yep, the whole film is about evolving, changing OR NOT changing. No matter what the celestials do you can't control how things evolve and change.
@davidbjacobs35983 жыл бұрын
Good observation! I like this a lot. It plays into humanity's role as well. Phastos gives them the plow one day, the next they're dropping atom bombs. But we also have the ability to change for the better. The Emergence would have put a halt to that evolution.

There're also only 7 Eternals left by the end of the movie. 6 if you don't count Sprite since she's been changed into human now (a RESTING Eternal.) My big question is this: Who is the most powerful, who is in control, and who knows the most? The TVA, the Celestials, or The Watcher? Edit: I would also like to point out that the name "Tiamut" is probably coming from "Tiamat", a Babylonian sea goddess who represents primordial chaos. Also, while most of the Eternals have names similar to well known ancient deities, the name "Kingo" probably comes from "Kingu", a child of Tiamat (and Abzu, the primordial sky god). Tiamat gave Kingu gifts, such as a breastplate and the Tablet of Destinies (basically a cosmic legal document saying that Enlil is the supreme god). I'm not entirely sure how all of that could connect, but that's what I know of the mythological figures.
@davidbjacobs35983 жыл бұрын
It's hard to gauge the Watcher's power, since he rarely uses it. He is likely on par with a Celestial, but of course they are a full race and would collectively be more powerful. Of course Watcher also has multiversal power, so maybe I'm wrong with that. The TVA is a different kind of power, in that they have good weapons and tech and bureacracy. If they actually fought a Celestial, they'd be wiped out no question. But their power comes from knowledge as well -- Kang basically knows what's going to happen. So it's kind of non-incidental. If we ever meet Eternity, Infinity, Oblivion, or Death, they will top all of these. If we meet the Living Tribunal, he's stronger than all of us. Then the Beyonders are maybe on par with LT. And the strongest, of course, is The One Above All... who is Jack Kirby.
@greywolf75773 жыл бұрын
The Watcher would be the most powerful except that he doesn't interfere. If the other two, the TVA is the most powerful because if they don't like what the Celestials do, they can just erase that timeline.
@fdlarts76763 жыл бұрын
I'd also like to add that the word "Tiamat" is one letter away from the word "Kiamat" which in Indonesian, means the end of the world. I don't know if there's actually a connection or just coincidence but the history of human laguage fascinates me

The cast like I said was great and each had there moment to shine, but I felt when something big happened in the movie I didn’t get to excited or sad because these characters are so new to MCU I didn’t have an emotional connection with them. But I was very impressed by the cinematography and I enjoyed the cast (particularly Kumail Nanjiani, Don Lee, and Brian Tyree Henry). I think the designs of the deviants were based on mythological creatures: there was a winged one like Pegasus, another one looked like a bull (Minotaur).

They also looked like they'd been inspired by Mike Mignola creatures from BPRD and one of Tyler Crooks' creatures in 'Harrow County'. Which, if true, is a nice nod some amazing comics.

Good video as usual Ryan, but two inaccuracies: The name used by Phastos was Sylvia, not Sylvie(Sylvia was my mother's name). Also the version of End of the World in the movie was by Skeeter Davis, not Brenda Lee! The version I first heard as a kid was on a Herman's Hermits lp!

I personally LOVED the movie. It was just so good. Ofc it was kinda sad that they killed Ajak and especially Gilgamesh. But i didn't really care about Ajak. Gilgamesh was really good tho. But i've heard that in the comics eternals died and then were brought back somehow so.. Makkari is easily the best live action speedster. Her fight scene against Ikaris was PERFECT Ikaris was also REALLY great. Also his fight scenes were so well made And ofc other characters were also so interesting and good but yeah 9,8-10/10 for me. Easily in my top 3 favourite marvel projects Edit: and also the runtimr didn't bother me. I loved the whole 2,5h. There wasn't a single scene where i was like "could this already end" or "how long is this taking oh my god".

Just had a thought. You mentioned that in the comics the Celestial Egg was made from vibranium. Makes me wonder, could the vibranium asteroid that crashed into Wakanda actually have been the egg containing Tiamut. After all, they didn't seed the egg until after all the other apex predators were cleared out and Humanity started to come to being.

This movie was amazing and I am not shocked by the reviews because this isnt a generic superhero movie, it touches on a lot of deep themes that can go over the heads of the average human. I love how deep and dense the MCU storyline is getting and I honestly dont care if it alienates the viewers who just want the same crap over and over again.

@@deanospimoniful well I’m only saying that regarding most of the reviews I read about the critics score. If you read a lot of those and compare it to the movie you watched you will see that the movie was way to deep for most of them. What if ego’s plan worked in guardians of the galaxy 2 and his seed destroyed the earth would the eternals or the celestial’s have to stop him so the celestial seed dosent get destroyed too🤔🤔
@Kris_AB3 жыл бұрын
The more aliens-interfering you add to Earth's history in the MCU, the more fun this could all get, but there's also the risk of it all not holding up as well, if the writers of various films and series don't consult with each other or pay attention to the details in everything that's come before. If the Marvel Television era stuff still counted, then we'd also have the Kree messing around with human DNA and creating The Inhumans (I know the Celestials did the same to humans to create The Eternals in the comics, and this similarity is probably why The Eternals were made to be synthetic beings in the MCU instead).
@MerijnH3 жыл бұрын
If I had a nickel for every time an MCU movie planted a giant alien egg inside Earth, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice! (GOTG2 and Eternals)

The movie wasn’t as great as Endgame or Infinity war but for a first go around I can’t think of another MCU movie that comes close except for Black Panther. The cinematography is amazing from beginning to end and the exposition is as engulfing as anything the MCU has offered in any other movie. From Thena’s condition being watched by Gilgamesh to Druig and Makkarri then into Sprite Sersi and Icarus’s love triangle, nothing at all seems too much for the audience. Zhao made a cohesive film as good or better then any other 10+ superhero on screen at once film could ever be asked for. Even if this film wasn’t a 10/10, the future it just set up is absolutely incredible from the black Knight to Starfox helping the space bound group help their friends. All that and no one has even mentioned the biggest thing going forward. When all the Avengers become privy to the eternals....I’d say maybe by avengers 5 or maybe it’s setting up 6-7 with A5 being a sort of Age of Ultron leading to infinity war and endgame... Can’t wait marvel

Eternals answers the question why Doctor Strange let Snap happen. It was because of only BLIP Ajak was impressed by Humans and decided to save them. If Doctor Strange stopped Thanos by snapping, Eternals would have supported the emergence.

@@Kris_AB yeah because Dr Strange was most OP character in infinity War he may also have cut thanos' hand just like Wong did to Calobsidian. Or he may have stopped Peter quil from enraging on Thanos when Spidey was taking out his gauntlet but he did nothing, he just let thanos snap, and hulk snap and Tony sacrifice , so that Eternals would support humans.
