I demand these two new features 1. laying claim to territory without settling it but by exploring and charting it. This can be contested in the diplomatic options to either recognize or otherwise affecting relations between nation states. There is a ticking score for as long as the claim is valid giving trade and other benefits in the claimed region. 2. Disease outbreaks in armies causing huge scale attrition which can be counteracted by withdrawing affected armies from enemy territory.

The best opening play for Brandenburg usually is to ally Poland, rival the Teutonic Order immediately, which gives you a mission to reclaim Neumark, call in the Poles, and just divide up the Teutonic Order between you.

I normally rival Anhalt and then Show Strength them. It is normally cheap monarchy points.

This is what I usually do. You can also rival Pomerania and get a claim on them, either with the mission or a spy network, and take them on during the Teuton war if they don't get a strong ally. Take and core a coastal province so you can take both Neumark and Danzig. And then either give Poland enough land to get 10 favors if possible, enough to not lose the alliance if not possible, or ditch the alliance and give them nothing. The dream is also that East Frisia allies a small nation you can rival. Then you can also declare to Humiliate and vassalize East frisia in a separate Peace AND Show Strength for monarch points.

The alert is probably new to the Rights of Man patch. The AI will accept condottieri on normal. Arumba plays on normal. You can tell because their isn't a penalty to alliance from difficulty.

Units are same as old. Only Hordes can change unit types.

Yes it was a major reason, early game cav are amazing. Arumba is acting like it is at the point where having good infantry and cannons means you win in the fire phase. Cav still really powerful for the next hundred or so years, and continues to be if your Poland. The issue is that it is expensive, but it wins wars early on. Right now he is not swimming on money though, so there is that.
