On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

The Meteor is probably my new favorite long range AAM. I loved your video of the F-15 carrying it! Talk about giving the Eagle bigger teeth! Like T-Rex teeth! It would be cool to see a video of you flying the F-22 carrying Meteors. That would be a deadly and unbeatable combo! I'm curious to see how many the F-22 can carry in it's internal weapons bays. Judging by the design of the missiles and the limited space inside the bays, I'm guessing only two can fit in each bay. But still; an F-22 with 4 Meteors would be awesome!

that second mig 29 shot really shows the *other* beauty of the Meteor. not only does it have long range, it has a HUGE no escape zone so you can shoot in a rear aspect on a target that is quite far away and it will hit with a high probability

9:32 seems like a radar (P-15 "flat face" ) and a launcher were hit. the SNAR-125 "low Blow" fire control radar was not. Search radar was out, but you were already locked by a track radar, so it would continue to lock you.if the lock was broken, it would've been very hard for it to reacquire since... the search radar was destroyed the CBU attack was almost centered on the SNAR-125 so that's the site out of action even if the launchers weren't hit

not sure if CBU-97 and CBU-105 would be considered cluster bombs under german law... the Bw uses the SMArt 155 which has a very similar payload to those CBUs but its an artillery shell with 2 of those instead of a bomb with like 20

@@zahnatom What we talked about was the MW1, German developed clusterbomb for Tornado, F-104 and F4. That thing was fast forgotten once Germany signed the declaration. And yes, both CBU-97 and 105 are considered as cluster bombs and therefore are illegal. Apparently so is invading another country- given the reaction over the last couple of weeks clusterbombs are more illegal than invading, go figure.

I was curious to see what it would be like to operate those aircraft. It turns out they have very poor visibility all around so if he decides to fly any one of those aircraft (which I don't think will happen in the near future), he will have a hard time having situational awareness.

The upgraded Zaslon-M radar detection range for air targets has been increased to 400 km for AEW&C-sized aircraft. The aircraft can automatically track up to 24 targets and simultaneously engage up to eight. The new long-range Mach 6, R-37 missile has a range of up to 400 km. MiG-31BM has the multi-role capability, as it is capable of using anti-radar, air-to-ship, and air-to-ground missiles. Some avionics are common to the MiG-29SMT, and it has a flight refueling probe. Though it evolved from the MiG-25, there were significant changes. The aircraft fuselage is longer. The wings and airframe of the MiG-31 were stronger than those of the MiG-25. The advanced radar, with look-up and look-down/shoot-down capability and multi-target tracking and engagement, was a significant improvement. The aircraft had advanced sensors and weapons. Radar reportedly worked well even during active radar jamming. Russians highlighted the cooperative work that could be undertaken within a formation of four MiG-31 interceptors, using data links, dominating a 900-kilometer front.

@@djooable 400km for an AEW&C sized target... That means that when it looks for a Typhoon and finds it the MiG-31 is well within the range of the Meteor...probably with one coming at him already. The RCS of a B-52 is 100m2, aprox. You can say that an 737 AEW&C might have 30m2 , being smaller but having the big ass antena even if it isnt a rotational radome. A typhoon has 0.5m2. The math for this is not a direct 1/6, but, tell me, do you really think that MiG-31 is detecting and locking a Typhoon before the MIG-31has had a Meteor coming at him for some time? Keep in mind, for a 5m2 RCS said radar detects the target at 282km. For 0.5m2? Surely is under 150km.

Like a few years ago, I was searching all around about Eurofighter and there wasn't any information of it having any stealth coating. And even if it is low observable, all those external weapons will increase the RCS. And given the fact that, Mig-31 having the Zaslon-M radar with L-Band capability, combined with the R-37M's very long range. It would be able to both detect and launch at a low observable target at considerably long range.

Exactly what I thought too. The mission was set up so that the Eurofighter was already within the Meteor's launch range, which should have been outclassed by the R-33s range. Also, the Migs were flying low so they had no altitude advantage where their engines perform best. IMHO these two factors have totally defeated the purpose of the Mig-31s and the way they can deny airspace even to more advanced, non-stealth jets. Foxhounds are meant to fly high and fast, lock first, launch first to make the attacker notch (also break lock) and stay out of the protected airspace. I also think that Mig-31s aren't good in protecting low, but mid to high altitude airspace as they are sitting ducks on the deck.

This shit is honestly why I rate the eurofighter for most purposes higher than the f-35 and f-22. The f-22 and f-35 are great because of their stealth and for air superiority early on in a conflict that simply cannot be ignored, it’s perfect. But after that they don’t actually have a high internal payload yield (f22 can internally carry about 4 fox-3s and 2 fox-2s or a couple of j-dams which is pretty poor and if you’re not going for the full stealth load out you’re wasting the aircraft, same with the f-35 though it can carry a bit more internally it’s not a massive amount. But the eurofighter has insane range, insane missiles in the meteor, an amazing sensor system, amazing aerodynamics, and an insane payload for a multi-role fighter, and it’s very fucking quick. The f-22 is second to none for air superiority, the f-35 is second to none in recon and data link, but if you need to slap the shit out of a lot of enemies all at once, either the eurofighter if they can shoot back or the a-10 if they can’t, nothing compares.

yep, they didnt learn from GS videos :-) fly high, use the higher altitude for more speed which the engine of the MIG31 was developed for , than fire from top to bottom with their extreme long range missles and imidiately dive behind mountains to defend the meteor. still an excellent video from GS, showing a lot of EF multirole capabilities.
