People are finding out that the 'range' figure is an absolute best and in the real world it's at least 25% less. You can't drive a 250 mile range vehicle 248 miles safely, you'd better start planning to recharge before the range is down to 50 miles. And the cost of replacing the batteries, and the increased wear on tires, are also not happy surprises. Electrics are not ready for prime time.

Fact. Those "rolling blackouts" were *caused* by decades of system wide neglect of a system which responds slowly. . They were PREVENTED by Tesla "Virtual Power Packs" providing *instant* backup to the grid when needed. . You should read the initial order by the governor, which requested ALL users to cut consumption at peak times, *especially* aircon. Zero mention of "EVs" (which largely charge off peak) . Then the report detailing how often and how much energy was supplied by the Tesla owners. . From memory, more than 10 times, 5 MW capacity, millisecond response (which is what saves the grid) . Then maybe check the effect of the *industrial* backup systems installed since then. .

California did NOT have a rolling blackout. We had some insane heatwaves and was asked to move certain activities to night to not overload the draw. The citizens, instead of acting like angry 13 year old girls who scream at their parents for ruining their life, said, "no problem." Thus, no blackouts.

Delete dealers and the final price will get to where it needs to be. Dealers are THE biggest problem by a long shot. People want all sorts of cars....including EV's. They are not being 'shoved down your throats'. Look around....there are plenty of gas and diesel options where EV's make about 5% of the offerings. There is literally no shoving at all. Buy what you want and need just like you always have. What is absolutely being 'shoved down our throats' aggressively that no one talks about is that CONSUMERS ARE LEGALLY FORCED TO BUY FROM DEALERS THAT DO NOT ADD VALUE. That is the ultimate throat shove! Dealers add a ton of cost, frustration, and complexity to the car buying process because they are legally protected by politicians that write laws to protect them at the expense of consumer car buyers. Remove all legal protections enjoyed by dealers and see if they can figure out how to keep one single customer. Going direct to the manufacturer would give Ford, Chevy, whoever the immediate option to dramatically drop the price and the complexity of car buying. Sales will go UP outside of dealers. Consumers will be happier.

Portland, Oregon just saw a 18% electric power increase effective today, last year PG&E jacked up their prices 17%, if you do the math that's a 35% increase in 24 months. With petroleum companies there's a little bit of competition, but not so in the electric grid markets. From what I understand, the Rothschild Banking Family owns all of the electric companies in America (and throughout the world I'm betting) and they will dictate ultimately what prices you'll pay to drive your EV. Not only that major drawback, but EV's are dangerous, heavy and expensive to own, on top of that they can be shut down by the government/hackers. That's why the government really wants people in EV's, it's all about control, hindering your movements & monitoring your traveling activities.

No, Lightning, Bolt, Model Ys still get $7500, Rivians get $3750. "Everyone who wanted an EV already has one" ahah a hah ah ahah aha hahah. heh. @@tachikaze222 You may want to check your information. "ahah a hah ah ahah aha hahah. heh" is not a debate response. The tax credits are going to far fewer vehicles in 2024 and you are welcome to check that. There are now income caps as well ... I would not be eligible based on what I make. EV's are NOT better in the cold. They lose significant range. Generating heat from electricity is difficult. One guess as to what appliance in your house draws the most power. It's the toaster. And gas, LOL. My cost of driving 30 miles is under 50c thanks to home charging from solar. BEV ranges are impacted in the winter cold but don't go to zero. More like -30%. And it is true that you can always get in and go with a BEV in extreme cold, you don't have to warm up the engine first, which is great. As for your toaster observation, 2.0kW is sufficient heat to keep the car cabin warm on trips. Brief rundown. . You mine stuff... ONCE. You refine and make the cells. You build the pack. . Then . You use about the same amount of electricity as it takes to just obtain and refine enough fuel for a similar ICE vehicle, moving a similar distance.... . WITHOUT burning any fuel in the vehicle. . That makes the ICE 100% polluting when running.... A fact that's covered up by the industry and ignored by those who enjoy the Status quote as an "inconvenient truth". . Oh When those cells DO reach "end of life", they can be recycled for 20% of the cost of mining new stock, and provide *better* raw material (refined twice!) (Try that with oil) . One more thing . That recycling process will also absorb the *Billions* of cells that "we" (you) have no problem disposing of from every small electrical / electronic device you use from drills, gardening tools, laptops, phones, even your girlfriends favourite "toy"😉. . The vast majority end up.... Let's say "not being recycled". That's about to change. . There. Easy.

he can interview me, LOL. I picked up an AWD Model Y last week for $6000 off list. Just got back from my first drive to the coast, 300-mile round trip. Left at 100% SOC, arrived in Santa Cruz at 45%, charged up at Casa de Fruta up to 55%, got back home at 10%. Total trip cost was $15, well $5 actually since I have free charging for 6 months now. Tesla's "Autopilot" was pretty great, too. I moved the seat so the wheel was in my lap and really didn't have to do much driving for these 300 miles, just watch the car drive.

So what this video misses is that EV sales are up significantly overall in USA this past quarter. It’s only old school domestic manufacturers like ford and GM that are having issues. Hyundai, Tesla, Mercedes, BMW all seeing record EV sales in USA. So not only is USA seeing EVs replace ICE cars but replacements are by companies other than big 3. Ford and GM may be going away soon only to be replaced by companies who better market EVs and hybrids.

The main factor will be the price of oil. If American oil dries up again (like it did from 1970-2010), then gasoline prices will skyrocket. The only reason they fell in recent years is due to hydraulic fracturing, but fracking wells only produce oil for about 5 years. Conventional wells produced oil for 50-100+ years.

If you need a CAR, buying an EV doesn't make sense. Neither does a horse and buggy, but it would be a much better choice than an EV. Why would you pay even one dollar on something that is completely useless to you? Owning an EV has actually become a liability. I mean, where would you even store it safely? I have a 2003 bright yellow V6 Mustang in near new condition with only 57,000 miles on it. It may be outdated, which I actually consider a good thing, and it will take me wherever I want to go. I also have two low mileage Crown Vics (NOT police models) I absolutely am a die hard internal combustion guy. To me there is nothing else. I'm a hot rodder, drag racer, and vintage car enthusiast. I also worked as a professional mechanic for 37 years. I don't own or work on battery powered toy cars. I did get my 3 year old grandson one for Christmas. Someone from Tesla in a Cybertruck almost killed someone driving a Toyota Camry. I can't believe those things are even being allowed on the road, especially without a CDL, considering how much they weigh.

A lot of consumers are learning from the selfless influencers who are sharing their life with electric vehicles. The abysmal charging stations and lack of it. The anxiety you get from running out of charge to not finding a charging station. The government should have stepped in and built plenty of charging stations throughout the US. Also, the charging stations should have been world class and practical. You don't build a charging station based on gas station schematics. You need to insulate the charging stations from the weather especially extreme heat and cold. The US could have been creative building the infrastructure supporting the charging stations. You know you built a charging stations why not put highway lights on the road leading to the place? You put solar panels and wind panels to charge the battery for the highway lights and send excess energy to the charging stations. You know if I am this creative in building the charging stations and I'm not even paid for this. The US government is run by people with no creativity and most likely have corrupt people in it. The charging stations could have been built warehouse style where the charging stations are inside a semi open building and there are plenty of restaurants inside of it so that people charging could stretch out and do something else like eat or shop. In fact, they could have done an Asian style service. You go to the charging station shop buy something not there and then in the designated next shop/charging station you will have your item delivered there for pickup. You know stuff like these. Also, we really need to think about battery changing service in our vehicles. The one that will benefit the most are the trucks. You can't have trucks idling by an area for too long unless you want a congested truck stop. You want the trucks to come in and go quickly to reduce congestion in the charging station. Electric trucks need to be designed where the battery is easily changed for ease and immediate transport. But you know for some damn reason creativity and ingenuity traits are gone in corporate America all they see are dollar signs but you would think they make optimum decisions but they make so many wasteful and harmful decisions.

Everyone needs to accept EV’s are the future, it’s a save the planet thing. Once these occur it will be a stampede for EV’s..give it 5 years
@ChucklesMcChuckleson Жыл бұрын
Well, it's not just EVs, the whole market is down. EVs drive great and are perfectly fine car for day to day use - assuming that you have the infrastructure that is needed for them. They are conceptually a better long term solution, but the technology just isn't ready yet. A self-sufficient solar-powered EV would be a true revelation, but we're not there yet. However, right now in early 2024, the batteries are just not developed enough. You won't find a 2023 Tesla in a garage somewhere 25 years from now that still works perfectly. If you prefer an ICE engine, there's plenty out there for you. Nothing is being forced on you. Companies only make things that sell, and when the F-150 lightning was popping off during the pandemic, Ford foolishly assumed that demand would continue. However, the Tesla Model Y was the fourth best selling car worldwide in 2022 and I believe it's anticipated to take the #3 spot for 2023. So sales are perhaps not as dead as you're trying to show. And a lot of it is people just don't love change. Believe me, if Apple suddenly came out with a gas powered cell phone, people would look at that shit sideways too.

Who needs a EV pickup truck? Probably only a person drives around in the city going shopping. Ford may have learned a hard lesson do not push your ideas on a consumer. Go to the consumer to find out the actual needs. Next thing for all vehicle manufacturers need to put quality back into your products. Not the bs you currently push out to the consumer with over amount of recalls and failures of the products you produce. 3 and 4 cylinder engines with turbos and 8 plus speed transmissions to include terrible cvt transmissions which are all junk.

People don't want an EV for many reasons. I would like one BUT I cannot afford one. Like Scotty said in Star Trek IV, "it's not just the whales, it's the water". Buying an EV means also thinking about an EV charger. Whether you pay an electrician to install one at your home, or you have to plan your day around WHERE to go to get your EV charged. Oh wait, only Tesla can use NACS charging stations. Until the infrastructure catches up, EV will sit on car lots. Would you buy a gas-powered vehicle if you had to also install a gas station at your home? Nothing political about this.

Not withstanding the certainty of your message that the US buyers refuse to buy EVs. There is a more realistic view. That is, the car manufacturers are making the wrong sort of EV car. You get close to this point when you state that what people want from EVs is not an EV truck. The car makers, particularly, Ford and GMC are trying to sell EVs that are too big and too expensive. Ford and GMC are also unable to match Tesla for price, reliability and usability. All this noise about EV not selling in US is a cover for the senior management of Ford and GMC making the wrong calls. The car market is wide open for compact city based cars, and yet they are not supplying it.
