@@indiesunflowers Eh, I read the original book, which was pretty bland and boring. Treasure Planet wasn't, though I think it has more to do with the excellent character changes (little to no actual characterization or development in the book) the movie made. Nostalgia isn't a factor for me as I saw it in my mid twenties (about a decade after it came out), and while I liked the animation a lot, it was by no means unique by the time I saw it. Nah, Disney creators did what they do best, giving us lovable and intriguing characters that we wanted to see getting the endings they deserved.

Fun fact about Lilo & Stitch. Aloha Oi is a song originally written by Hawaii's last Queen before the country was anexed, and it's basically her farwell to her country as she knew it before it was forcibly taken by an invading power. I find it incredibly powerful that they used it as a symbol of Nanis pain over her family being torn apart by agents of that very government. Especially for disney in the 2000's.
@Darkstriker133713
@Darkstriker133713 10 ай бұрын
The only thing is that makes this song bitter is that she herself didn't experience Hawaii as an untouched country. It was told to her by her parents or grandparents who were the last few Hawaiians who knew what true Hawaiian language and culture was before the British and Americans. The song was a eulogy for a Hawaii she never knew.

18:35 To be fair, I haven't seen the film in a while, but I think the lesson Tiana was supposed to learn was to not focus on achieving her dream to the unhealthy degree she displayed at the beginning of the movie. She was working so hard to raise the money, that she was: - Staying up late to the point of only getting seconds of sleep each morning (displayed during the time skip where she entered her room in her maid uniform and then had to get ready to work at the diner) - Constantly choosing work over hanging out with her friends (shown during her conversation with said friends) - Having to be convinced by Charlette (Tiana's closest and best friend) to take time off work and go to her ball, and even then Charlette had to give her a huge tip to make up for the money Tiana could potentially lose by not working. Her life hinged so much on achieving her dream, that when the guys said someone else bought the building she was gonna buy for her restaurant, she spiraled into a depression before her encounter with Naveen shifted her mind elsewhere.
@xLolwat

Just wanted to say that I agree, so much. The whole point is that a dream job is not everything in life, and it certainly isn't worth working yourself to death for. Tiana definitely had a lesson to learn at the start of the movie.

Just saw the movie for the first time last week. Imo I don't think she had a lesson to learn. She literally needed the money to take care of herself and open her own restaurant. I'm glad we got Lilo and Stitch at all honestly, but I'm so upset that they cut out that MASSIVE deleted scene of her scaring the tourists away from the beach just to punctuate how much she resents her home being treated like a vacation resort where she's basically seen as a photo opportunity just for being a native islander. That scene got so close to being finalized before it was cut too, literally only needing to be colored and cleaned up, it's such a shame because the only leftover from that concept is her taking pictures of tourists as a way of turning the tables on that disrespect. The movie doesn't give any context to her photos except to make it look like a quirky hobby instead of a calculated "see how you like it" revenge behavior. Then AGAIN when she's vengeful to her lil white friends predominantly taking up space in hula dancing school while going out of their way to other her and make her feel unwanted, the movie tries to make SURE white audiences can't pick up that maybe part of her frustration has to do with the other islanders trying to understand her trauma and grief, while Murtle just flat out calls her crazy to her face. The original uncut Lilo and Stitch was gonna be about how hard it is for a child to grapple with her culture being turned into theme park bullshit and it would have gone hard as hell.

there was also another deleted scene that further explored how traumatized she was by her parents' death. basically, stitch fucks up by slapping away a fish (i believe to be the same fish she feeds sandwiches) and laughing when the fish gets eaten by seagulls, and lilo gets really mad at him and says "you must never let your family die!". this sentence means that lilo feels responsible for her parents' death bc she believes the fish she feeds sandwiches controls weather, and her parents died in a car accident caused by heavy rain. she must've forgotten to feed him that day, which made her believe he was upset and therefore made it. this movie could've gone so much harder, damn.

I really appreciate how Lilo is written. They wrote her as a problematic child bc that’s how a lot of children who have to deal with the trauma of losing their parents, especially as young as her, act. I love how they don’t write her as a nuisance, but as a child who’s gone through something really terrible and as a result acts different compared to the average child or the other girls in the movie. It isn’t just her being the quirky kid, and it isn’t the characters victimizing her too much or looking/acting w disgust around her bc of how she acts out.

Honestly, Jon Silver and Jim Hawkins relationship has to be my favorite of any Disney movie, which is saying a lot. Simply because it's one of the few movies where the villain and the hero interact with each other positively. They help each other grow, despite the fact Jim, and the audience, already knows Silver is the villain. We're all told this fact when Jim's handed the map. Yet, throughout the movie, we watch as the two grow closer and become better people thanks to one another, all the while we know that it has to end eventually. Silver acting as a sort of father figure to Jim, who comes from a broken home, and helping him grow into a confident young man. Whereas Jim helps Silver realize that there's more to life than treasure, that it's good to appreciate the nonmaterial things. Their relationship is what makes Treasure Planet such a good movie for me.

This also ties into Naveen, who only enjoys himself, and needs to learn to work for those moments to mean anything.

This isn’t just your regular old cheesy steampunk though, it’s actually an extremely intricate, well thought out and researched, cohesive and creative take on the visual genre - probably the best one in my opinion. I don’t think you need to be a steampunk fan to appreciate this world, any fan of good world-building and aesthetics would enjoy it. I find it extremely bizarre that, for someone who consumes a lot of media, he didn’t even think it was decent. Truly one of those things which I think is objectively good, if not exceptional and a masterclass in world-building. Schafrillas is quite baffling to me sometimes to be honest.

*Fun Fact:* Originally, Chicken Little was going to be a coming-of-age story with the protagonist being a girl. No aliens included. This is the story about a small yellow chick who suffered from paranoia which caused several panic outbreaks in her hometown. Not only becomes a freak to the town, but also upsets her father who wanted her to improve as a better person (and have the mother being alive as well). In order to give confidence, she was sent to a summer school called Camp-Yes-You-Can where she met her friends like in the final product but with Ugly Duckling being a boy. The sheep who ran the camp turned out to be wolves in disguise who were planning to eat all the students. Now, it is up to Chicken Little to confront her fears and save the day. The scrapped version of Chicken Little could've been great in the final product but too bad Disney can't accept that.

A lot of people say that Princess and the Frog is based on the old fairy tale of the frog prince, but it's loosely based on a book that's in turn loosely inspired by that story that's called the Frog Princess. In the original book the titular princess turned into a frog because a bracelet her aunt gave her to keep her from getting cursed had an unforeseen reaction with the curse that was on the prince (it was enchanted to turn any magic she got involved with back on the caster). And you're right, Charlotte and her father don't have any equivalents in the book, they probably were added for the reason you think.

I think a fan's relationship with their father (especially a son's relationship) defines how each responds to Treasure Planet. That is why so many guys that grew up with that movie care about it so much because they see aspects of their own father-son relationship in it. I can recognize that it isn't overall as quality of a movie as many make it out to be, but it is personally meaningful to me and one of the few Disney movies of this era that really brings out deeper emotions from me, so I get why so many love it.

18:36 Tiana actually had a "reason" for becoming a frog, and in fact it was that she "worked" too hard and was very obsessed with the "working" part of making a dream come true. Through the journey, and also through what Mama Odie wanted to point out to her (but she didn't understand), she learns not to be so obsessed with hard work and listening to her own self (digging a little deeper hehe), because everything she needed and what was more important she already had: love (as she states for Dr. Facilier). That was the point of her turning into a frog.

Disney Dinosaur has one of the best original sound tracks which elevated the movie to bring an unforgettable experience. James Newton Howard brought life to those dinosaurs with his godly hands. "What did Tiana do to deserve being turned into a frog?" Nothing. But that doesn't mean there wasn't a point to it. Tiana is a very earnest, hardworking person at the beginning of the story, and while this is a great virtue to be sure, it still holds her back. Ironically, because Tiana is so hard working, she considers herself to be above people who haven't learned to respect hard work, and thus finds it difficult to accept their companionship and help. Furthermore, she is somehow convinced that her accomplishments don't count unless she does everything entirely on her own. By being put into the same position as Naveen, she learns to empathize with him and how to both relax and to let other people share in her difficulties. She wasn't too hardworking -- she was too *stubborn.* (Notice the duality of this term; it can be both a good thing and a bad one.) I think Tiana did "deserve" to become a frog, but as a blessing, not a curse. Because it was exactly what she needed to fulfill her dreams. What makes you so sure being tuned into an animal is a punishment? Your favorite animated character ever is a freaking ogre! And the conclusion to both Shrek and Shrek two involves a character turning into an ogre through a *kiss* as a reflection of their authentic selves. You intentionally depict yourself as a giant crab.

There’s a ton of white characters that turn into animals in Disney movies tbh. Was a lazy criticism on Schaff’s part. Edit: Since someone requested a list of Disney products where white people are transformed into animals... Movies Pinocchio - Various white children are turned into donkeys on that island. Cinderella - Not a direct transformation of whites to animals but when the rats are given human form in the Cinderella movie and its spinoffs they are shown as white characters before being transformed back. Sword in the Stone - Arthur and Merlin, both white characters, are constantly transformed. Robin Hood - All of the classical white characters from the original tale of Robin Hood are turned into anmals. Beauty and the Beast - Adam, the prince who is better known as "Beast" was transformed into a combination of multiple animals in order to reach him a lesson. Hocus Pocus - The white male character is turned into a cat by the witches and he's trapped in that form for centuries. Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Eustace is turned into a dragon by Aslan to teach him a lesson about greed. Tales from Earthsea - Has the main character, who is white, transform into a dragon. Brave - Transforms Merida and her mother into bears. The Shaggy Dog - This isn't a direct transformation but it's arguably worse, it has the main character ( played by known white guy Tim Allen ) acting like a dog throughout the movie. For the comparison we're using, I think having a black person act like a dog or chimp the whole movie would be far more offensive to someone like Schaff. Maleficent ( remake ) - Has Maleficent transform herself and other white characters into a variety of animals in the movie. TV Shows Kim Possible - The titular character is turned into a monkey or monkey like hybrid in one episode. Phineas and Ferb - Candace is body switched with Perry the Platypus. Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz is also turned into a platypus ( pointed out by @The Fat Piranha Plant ).

i dont really understand the hate toward princess and the frog--every single one of its songs are amazing and the casting, voice acting and visual designs are spectacular. the reason (or two) i think it makes sense that tiana turns into a frog is (firstly) because that is an essential subversion of the original fairytale, wherein it is not naveen who is brought up to tiana's level, but rather tiana who is "brought down" to naveen's. secondly, i think it is also important that she is somehow physically separated from her ability to work or take part in society--she is a workaholic with no regard for her own happiness or personal freedom, valuing her and her father's old dream of having a family-owned business (which i think ties in with the "perfect POC" archetype)--an obsession probably also facilitated by her father's presumed demise in ww1, maybe a form of survivour's guilt needing to honour his memory. thirdly, naveen and tiana are both justly turned into frogs--naveen needs to experience the hardship and grit of life, and tiana needs to be separated from her everyday life for reasons i just mentioned. lottie is also an INSANELY important character to the story; especially in the context of her being white, rich and conventionally attractive for the time. she, like naveen, is an opposite force to tiana; a mirror image. she is frivolous, air-headed, romantic and childish, juxtaposed to tiana's practicality, maturity and exertion. she, though she does not have a mother, was likely too young when her mother died/left to remember her properly; but tiana is a lot more likely to recall her father's death, especially how her mother would have to pick up the slack and begin working twice as hard (as opposed to Big Daddy, a successful "Sugar Baron"--also a reflection on how trauma response isn't tolerated particularly in impoverished black people). she is a reflection of how rich white girls (particularly around the more racist areas of the USA in the 1920s, and even today) are allowed to be more childish (and particularly enjoy their childhood, while black girls are expected to grow up faster by their own families and by the white people around them). lottie has been handed everything to her on a silver platter, while tiana, who worked every day of her life as the daughter of a single black mother, doesnt live nearly as well as her friend does (also commentary on white privilege, the wealth gap and criticism of "grind culture"). in the end, all three of these opposite forces--that is, naveen (rich, charming playboy), lottie (spoiled privileged white woman) and tiana (hard-working, practical black woman) are forced to mature in their own ways. naveen learns to value soul and love over money and luxury, and begins to understand the value of independence and hard work. tiana learns to prioritize her mental health and personal relationships as much, if not more, than her work obsession (letting it become not an obsession, but a well-loved job). and finally lottie matures from her former vacuous and childish behaviour, managing to put the feelings of her best friend before her own--in the end giving up on the idealised version of life that has been handed to her by her father and her childhood fairy tales. finally, all of them turn into responsible, mature and realised ADULTS. i dunno--i just really love princess and the frog. i have a lot to say about why i love this film so much.

Would all of you just get over it and stop complaining? It's not the end of the world. So what if it was a flop at the box office? Loads of people love it, and that should be more important than how much money it made. Besides, isn't a late release better than no release at all? And why do you people keep using the word "Disney?" When you say that, you're literally talking about God knows how many people working there. Do you honestly think every Disney worker sabotaged it? If so, that's a stupid and incorrect thought. It was only the people in charge who made it come out when it did. My point is: It was nearly 20 years ago, and it wasn't a crime against humanity. So let it go.

I am from the Westbank, a pretty small town in Louisiana that typically gets overshadowed as most people I know have never heard of it. Growing up Princess and the frog(and brave) were my favorite disney princesses. Especially PATF because I was able to relate to it, being a little black girl from the south I was so happy to have someone who looked liked me on the big screen and in motion picture. Now being older when watching the video and not saying it’s good based on nostalgia lmao. it was definitely a slap in the face to see PATF get such a low rating but as I listened, you were right. The subtle racism to being a frog not fitting Tianas story. They had no real point in me writing this but I just wanted to share my thoughts. One thing I love about your channel is how everyone has their own opinions, I love how mature(mostly) and clearly you talk about these topics and especially because you are able to change my mind and i’m always so willing to listen.

In the original story idea the fish was even more important. Stitch killed Pudge because he was programmed to be a killing machine and when Lilo got sad he realized the importance of lives, that was the part where he understood the consequences of his actions and tried to change. But it was cut out for understandable reasons, they didn't want to portray Stitch as that bad because while olders would understand it kids would misunderstand it and hate him.

My opinion on this list: 12. Dinosaur: This movie has literally never crossed my mind again since I saw it many years ago, so yeah, it must have been very forgettable 11. Chicken Little: Definitely a terrible movie, but I still laugh at and revisit this one constantly for the "it's so bad, it's good" feel that it has 10. Brother Bear: While my siblings certainly enjoy rewatching this, I honestly get bored these days whenever I revisit it, even with its occasional powerful or humorous moments (mostly from the moose regarding the comedy) 9. Bolt: I honestly liked this one quite a bit, namely I enjoyed the human/dog relationship, the sci-fi show that the story revolved around, and the main theme song. It's a fun movie, but it isn't exactly profound by any stretch of the imagination. 8. Home on the Range: This was a common movie that my family saw when we were on road trips, and there was a few fun games that came with the DVD as well. Again, not the most profound story, but still very fun when it comes to the yodeling villain and the main entourage of characters. 7. Treasure Planet: I know that this movie gets plenty of hate, and seemingly not for being a sci-fi Treasure Island parody, but it's been awhile since I've seen it, so I have few comments to make about it overall 6. Princess and the Frog: A fun Disney princess story with an especially likable female protagonist and main villain, as well as a surprisingly sad death that I did not see coming at the end, plus a nice pop song for the end credits. While not my favorite Disney princess, it's definitely a decent movie. 5. Meet The Robinsons: A definite underrated gem of a movie, especially with its awesome message, time travel element, and very unique protagonist/villain relationship. Happily watched this again with my little brother, and it's still a good movie, ngl 4. Fantasia: Never saw this movie, and I honestly don't plan to either. Doesn't really interest me that much, ngl. 3. Emperor's New Groove: A classic comedy with a great character arc for the protagonist and a decent spinoff show in the future. Been awhile since I've seen it, but still has many fun moments. 2. Atlantis: Never saw this one, but most people tell me it's underrated. 1. Lilo and Stitch: Been awhile since I've seen it, but I always love the family message and how every time I watch it, I feel the urge to make and eat grilled cheese 😁 If I had to say which were my favorites from this list, it would be Bolt, Home on the Range, and Meet the Robinsons. Anyway, those were my thoughts. Keep up the good work, Schaffrillas Productions! 😁

The ONLY reason I can think of on why Tiana is a frog is this: To learn to enjoy life and ask for help when you know you're done on your luck. Tiana never asked Lottie for money ( even knowing she'd 100% give her the funds no matter what cause she's a grade A best friend ), never really wanted to take breaks and only really focused on getting her job but not really caring much about wanting to be around her friends. Like the scene when her friends were upset she wasn't gonna attend Mardi Gras. All she would ever do is work and not even get help from others ( her mom helped but Tiana wasn't expecting her to be there ). She'd work for hours of little to no sleep, work but also miss out on spending time with her mother and friends. So maybe her being frog was also something that helped her realize she doesn't have to be alone in this. She loves her mom, her friends already yes, but she never really had the time to be with them, her dad worked hard too, but he always found a way to spend time with his family and the community around them. She also felt like losing her restaurant meant she'd be a failure, so she'd learn through meeting Naveen, Louis and Ray she atleast has friends and family who will always be there for her no matter what. That's all I got 🤷🏾‍♀️.

@@swanpride I haven't seen Stargate so I wouldn't know. If a movie is ripping something off it doesn't degrade the movie itself in anyway, sure I might lose a little respect for it. But if I reviewed based on what something else did in the past then we are kind of going of track. Comparing something is fine, but we are talking about critiquing the film not something else. If it's to tell other people if you reccomend a film or not then I'm totally fine with it. For example the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Movie with johnny depp is a great movie in my oppinion, but people had to compare a musical that deviated from the book a lot and did it's own thing. To a more authentic adaptation of the book, yet a lot of people forget that both films are based on the book and that's why they can be compared but it doesn't really make much sense why you would. The way both films execute things are different enough to not be able to say which one is better than the other. (This is why reviews should stick to talking about the film itself and nothing else, unless it's to tell people if the reviewer reccomends over something else or not)

I’ll never forget when Disney made a post about Chicken Little on their social media pages, and everyone bashed Buck Cluck. That was a highlight of 2020

"Up next (UGH!), (sigh) Chicken Little." That was actually a pretty genius transition.

I'm so happy you liked Atlantis, as a kid I loved it and always told my friends to watch it, it is so underrated. But it's sad that Brother Bear is so low, I actually really like it, I would have put it on 8th place
