I met Neal at 21 years old when he was with Blackfoot. We became friends and lost contact in the late 90's reconected again in the late 2000's . He was a true artist and maker of music. His first solo album is masterpiece and the songs are so well written and played. I miss him alot !

Thanks Craig for this interview. Neal was dropping hints in his music and I'm sure it is very difficult for his close friends and I'm sure there are a few. Obviously he skirts the question about difficulties in his life and says that surfing saved his life. He was such a talented and thoughtful musician but more importantly a good man. I can just feel it.

Thank you for posting this! Sad to watch however a great interview with some intense moments that truly capture Neal’s humble sense and emotional state just weeks prior to his death. Much love and respect! RIP

After knowing of Neal with his obvious bands, I was so glad to pick up his VINYL RSD 1st solo album. Which made me want to search more on him. This was a wonderful interview, and so bittersweet. I like how you let him tell his stories and you intervened when needed (like a band). I gave a listen to the 1st Hazy Malaze, wow!!!! The 1:11:49 mark, when you asked him 'if he was comfortable getting help'.....his reply 'as far as music goes?'...etc...and that laugh....that was chilling! What a humble person, but was so deeply troubled and hid it well.....saddens me. thank you steve

Yes, that's an eerie question in light of what happened literally two weeks to the day after we did this interview. Sad and tragic... thanks for listening Steve. Subscribe: elg.fun/subscribe

Losing Neal wasn't devastating. It was catastrophic. Heard of him in passing before he left us, then went thru his older stuff. Tears are falling like rain. Neal Safe....at home.

At 111:42 you ask a GREAT question about being comfortable about asking for "help". If only we all could let our guard's down and be more comfortable with this idea. I guess it flys in the face of all the things we are taught when we are young - "be strong", "be proud", "don't rely on others", etc. Kudos to you Craig for asking this question. ✌

Thanks for your kind words Paul and glad you enjoyed this 👍🏻🎸♫ After his tragic death I reflected on the irony of this question and the unfortunate sincerity of his answer. Peace man...

my favorite bands guitar player took his own life on my 21st birthday . ive been listening to circles around the sun for months now and just barely found out today he is no longer here physically , but his spirit is still very much alive in the music he left behind with us . RIP mr casal 💔 wish you were here

I saw Neal and his band many years ago. It was at a local venue in Chester UK. It was a storming night. We were about 2 feet from the stage. I remember asking him tongue in cheek. Are you voting republican in the election he replied laughing ''you must be fucking joking''. I am shocked he took his own life. He must have been in a very dark place. There is always the question ''why''. R.I.P Neal.
