I find it astounding how a song called Yofukashi no Uta can inspire a manga to be made that goes by the same name, and that manga gets so popular it gets and anime and then that anime gets the rights to use the song that INSPIRED the series in the first place, to be used as it's ending song. Fantastic stuff

On the Bakemonogatari comparisons, Call of the Night's series director Tomoyuki Itamura directed several seasons of the Monogatari Series (though not Bake specifically, which was instead directed by Tatsuya Oishi) and worked as a storyboarder and episode director on several studio Shaft series, which is part of why the show's so stylish despite it being produced at studio Lidenfilms.

Incredible background art and a solid realistic setting, some of the best use of color ever, really good voice acting. I'm afraid the OP and ED will be forgotten as we get CSM and so forth this season, but they were two of the best songs of the year. They hooked me good when the song Yofukashi no Uta came up toward the end of the first episode.

MAN, i loved this show. i had heard absolutely nothing about it until i saw the announcement trailer, and it caught my eye instantly the sheer QUALITY in the scenery and aesthetic of night landed this baby right into my top 5 almost overnight. it's an incredibly simple story, with a simple goal: a kid wants to enjoy the nighttime and skip school, so he wants to become a vampire. as a college student currently HATING my classes, this shit stabbed my soul and i fell in love. it's so calming to watch, the characters are so lovable, and the music and color palette are just SUPERB. they really nailed the magic of taking a nighttime stroll without a care in the world.

You hit so many marks on why I truly loved this anime. Little moments like when they did their fist bump, hers being more aggressive and him saying "Ow" gets me lol Also the KOWAI instead of the KAWAII for the detective moment lmao Anywho, this is one of those "intimate" feeling anime, that had so many moments that make you feel like you're in that environment. So well done. Great video, one that I'm sure that I will revisit. I don't know anyone personally who has seen this anime so it's comforting hearing your genuine opinions about it. Glad you covered this anime. this one hit me different because of my gender preferences and understanding (or lack there of) about love. I also found this compelling due to the nighttime setting. I am photosensitive so going outside for me either requires good sunglasses or nighttime, otherwise I get headaches. Glad to see you also liked the OP and ED songs :)

Great video! However, one thing I noticed that I wanted to point out is that, it's not as if he didn't have confidence in the beginning. I even believe there was some dialogue early on which alluded to the idea that if he wanted to get a girlfriend, he thought that he could have. I mean, it's kind of hard to not have confidence when a girl flat out confesses to you, which happened in episode 1. The issue was more that he didn't really see the "point" of forming close bonds, especially romantic ones, with others. He's very practical in that sense, to a fault, and that's the largest drive for his character development in the series. He pursues Nazuna not to attain more confidence, but rather because he wants to fall in love with her, just to know what it's like to feel that way about someone.

Nothing screams Aqua/Sora Amamiya more than getting along with the drunk guys at 02:47. :D She's such a great cast for Nazunas childish/chaotic behavior. And I absolutely adore at around 39:00 ... well, and a little moment before ... of course she lives out her inner Aqua and is standing at a beer vending machine. But all the characters were so damned good. Even if I love Nazuna's weirdly chaotic nature, the smoking one is a pleasant contrast.

I have been waiting to find a place to gush about how good the colors in this anime are at the night time scenes are given such a mysterious allure through the use of highly saturated ambient lighting that changes with the scene or tone sometimes using multiple colors to show that change the day time scenes don't have this form of coloring and that not only create more of a contrast but can give off a sense of normalcy based on the normal colors and lighting present, another interesting detail is how the detective plays into the sceneary if you notice there's often a lack of vibrance when she is on screen to the point it looks almost monochrome this could symbolise how she views the night or how she drains the vibrancy of the world with her cynicism and ups her creep facter this heavily contrast to the vibrant tense scenes with the vampires while both types of lightning create a sense of fear the ultra saturation of those tense vampire scenes gives off an unnatural impression just like unnatural nature of vampires and keeps a sense of fantasy in the danger compared to the detective scenes and that's not even mentioning how the specific colors play into the night time scenes. Sorry if this is to long I've been holding this in for months
