My vet recommended against brumation too. I can see why, but I think as long as the dragon is healthy to just let them brumate. Mine’s brumated twice now and did so safely!

It's been years since I've had reptiles. I don't think I'll ever have them again, due to how costly it is to care for them properly, and the fact my depression downtime could turn it into a neglectful situation. Don't want to risk that. But I very much enjoy reptiles through your videos. Warms my heart to see reptiles cared for by someone who loves them so much, and someone who has actually bothered to learn about their needs. This definitely helped me out thank you I was in a panic I got my dragon as an adult and have very little experience with brumation I definitely have the habitat part down dry arid low humidity and between 85 and 105 degrees so I was in a complete panic when his chin turned black and he just stopped moving very often every now and then he'll move to a new spot but he just lays there with his eyes open and he is breathing so obviously alive but just confused me so much

He is sort of halfway undercover now I think slowly coming out of it, just chilling with his head sticking out, but his eyes are still closed. He is in a well lit room, in the living room, so the natural sun hours are definitely happening, but I have turned his lights off during this time because he's been in there for three months. I'm wondering when I should turn his bulb on, and his UVB lights.

I don't own a reptile, but this is very important information regardless. Mongo has the best peanut arms. Every time I see that video intro, I think "Yep, those are peanuts for arms"

Oregano is a bit too crazy to brumate well. His favorite day napping spot is on his cool side rock looking out his window. Lady Basil will go in her cave a week or two, then come out for a couple of days, then go right back in, etc. I keep fresh water in there, but she sometimes doesn't drink water either. I try to do sneaky wellness checks, just to make sure she's still breathing. While she's brumating, all of Oregano's spots have to align with the doorway to her cave. He has to be comfortable, but be able to keep a constant watch until she comes out for a day or two. The first year, he went completely bonkers by week two because he didn't know where she was.

So our bearded dragon has gone into brumation for the first time on the 16. My boyfriend fed him right before and he didn't poo. Is he going to be okay, or should we give him a warm bath? I don't want the food to sit in his belly. Also what about water? He doesn't drink from his bowl and I usually don't keep water in there anyways because it brings the humidity up, but I'm afraid since he's not getting his water from his greens and hornworms anymore, that he's going to die of dehydration.

My bearded dragon definitely is like a 6 month’s Brumation dragon.. could this be cause he’s older and he doesn’t eat much only when he’s actually hungry. He’s healthy nice fat tail. He just always sleeps.

normally when they get older they brumate longer. it takes their body longer to feel like it has enough energy to go another year. I read a case of a 17 year old BD that brumated for 8 months the last 3 years of his life.

Thank you so much for this and Everyting you post! I allways end up on your channel for info. A little worried about the girl that adopted me. She clearly is going in brumation since 2-3 days. She ate both veggies and worms 3 days ago but she also did poop before she hid away and now shes staying where she is. I dont see any other signs of problem so im pretty sure shes brumating. what worries me is that i dont think what she ate would have time to digest in time for the poop so she probably got food left in her. She pooped just a cpl of hours after she ate and then a bit later she went to sleep for the night. I moved her to anther spot the first day so now shes surronded by papers (after i watched the video first time and saw one of yours under the paper). And she hasnt moved from there, a bit nervous i had to check so shes alive and she opens her eye when i come and thinks to me with her eye : WHAT, leave me alone! I have come to the conclusion that Bearded Dragons are just a completely mystery. Mine is sleeping in his hide alot but he sits with his head sticking out for an hour or so, so i thought it meant he wasnt brumating and he was hungry so i fed hin superworms. Now i think that was a mistake? Also his hide is beneath his basking spot(its all one piece) so its on his hot side. He likes to sleep leaning up against the side of his enclosure sometimes, and it has a reptile heating padn Dont worry the side is wood plus i put a really thick blanket against the wall to make sure there wasnt a chance he could get burned. I don't have the temp that high. Basically the blanket gets warm(not hot!) and he likes that warmth. I use those because it was impossible to get his enclosure warm enough with just his lights and heat lamps. *sigh* i need to rearrange his tank and lights anyway. I will find another basking spot because he loves his hide.

My bearded dragon is in the middle of a shed but she is starting to act like she is getting ready to brumate. She is still coming out to bask though. Watching some of your rescue videos, especially Ripley, I don't want little Cheetah to have any stuck shed. Should I soak daily until her shed is gone so if she is preparing to brumate, we don't have to worry about stuck shed?

you can soak them when its at the end of the shedding time. They should be before brumation

My girl I think was brumating this past winter. Right around mid-Jan came out. Do they typically poop a lot after? She is 2 yrs old and for the 2 past 2 weeks, she is pooping daily, if not twice. As well as the first week playing in it before I could clean (classroom pet). The poop has seemed to be less runny the last few days.
