With Robert Downey Junior's new Doolittle film opening, we decided to go back to the previous adaptation of this story, 1998's Dr. Doolittle, starring Eddie Murphy and a crap-ton of guest voices. Guess what? This movie is not good! So we counted the sins.

You have said it a no. of times: "operating on animals is different than operating on humans". Other than the difference in physiology the only difference is that we understand much less about what problems the animal have compared to a human because animals can't(usually) speak like us. That difference ceases to exist for Dr. Dolittle, so I would assume that for him operating on an animal would be somewhat closer to operating on a human compared to a vet surgeon. The difference in physiology still remains an issue, so there's that.

I think the animals had always understood humans and talked about it amongst themselves; what suddenly changed for them was the fact that a human could actually understand/ talk back

So this is a thing that I've noticed in other movies about talking animals: How can different species of animals communicate with each other? Why do they get along with each other? You always see predators and their prey getting along as if they'd been friends for years. And if they can, why CAN'T they understand humans? We're just another animal species..
