And then some holy-day miracle happens, 'cleansing' the critter of its defect so that -- Hurray! -- it becomes eligible for being slaughtered as an aroma pleasing to the LORD. Wouldn't such a story be an uplifting example of what Faith can do? Imagine tucking in your kiddies and reading them such a bedtime story -- showing them the Seussian artwork depicting the little animal getting blood-letted and burnt upon an altar -- and instilling in him/her such a tale of God's love! I wonder what happened to all the villages and towns that didn't have enough bulls, rams and lambs, wine and oil for all these sacrifices. God probably killed them all, now that I think about it. At least the aroma was probably pleasing to him.
@kiralana3242 жыл бұрын
this has to be some mis-translation, without holidays you need 2 lambs and 2 liters of wine, everyday, per family, at last count there were 60 families, so every day the whole community needs to sacrifice 980 sheep and 1000 gallons of wine, sheep have a gestation of 11 months, and wine takes at the least about 50 days to ferment, so every family needs to maintain a heard of 30,000 sheep and have an active Vinyard of 4+ acres year round, just for the sacrifice edit, and this is nothing to say for olive trees that only grow in Mediterranean Europe and flour (assuming wheat) that only grows in temperate areas!
@rudra622 жыл бұрын
You can never live up to God's demands. That is sin. It requires more sin offerings and more atonement. It's sort of like servitude of buying what you need at the company store - you keep getting deeper in debt. This is the same, just with sin. God hates his people.
@susyhammond51962 жыл бұрын
Surely they've killed off their supply of young, perfect, male animals... What happens if they DON'T have 7 lambs without defect on that particular day? And what happens to the rest of the animals' bodies when they've been burnt and oozed a pleasing aroma? Do the people get to eat the leftovers 'cause I know the priests get the good portion.

@tbbwolfy85842 жыл бұрын
the big question here is. is this only the priest that need to offer that amount of livestock that week or is it every overhead of the families or the overhead of the clans or is it every adult male that need to bring this sacrifice? just to blow the horn festival. in out day we call that festival Beef and BJ day. at is on marts the 14. still i wonder is there even a god order all this or is it some greedy power hungry ppl that sit in the tent where only they are allowed and eat and drink good every day. course we know if any that inst a priest that peek in to that tent will be killed on the spot. I guess that they ate and drank so good . and with 2 running barbaque grills working outside all the time for "food Offerings" they never went to bed hungry. Same time they keept the farmers poor demanding all that stuff from em so they could live the good life and rest needed to struggle. due to they are all sinners... i know why i am not a fan of this religion. since its start it have been building on power and greed. even martin luther couldnt get that greed stopped its still there but alteast not that visible other than from newer free church or mormon directions of this religion

Does anyone here know whether Orthodox Jew (I'm only using them for example, as the most conservative sect) still make burnt offerings like this? There's no Temple to do it in, but do we know if it's still done in any way? This is such an incredible waste. Like, God, okay, we get it, you're like a toddler who doesn't want to eat their greens, but this much meat is going to give you health problems.

PS: The Day of Atonement, in its current incarnation, is actually a really good idea. You're supposed to talk to all the people you wronged in the past year and apologize. Given that humans are a social species, yes, good idea. I took an entire half-course in university all about Jewish holidays. It was very interesting, actually. But, of course, sans Temple, things have changed a lot over the centuries.
