This. Plus the fact, that him and Dakota highjacked the girls' trip in the 1st place was so annoying. If both of these would-be "traditional" men, did their job as a provider, they wouldnt have had the time to butt in in the 1st place. It was infuriating on so many levels.
@Missjacket

I think that's exactly why 1) he made such a big deal about the show and 2) why he didn't want Jen to come and talk about the issue. So that when they did come back together, he could say, look we both did bad things you went and did all that you did and I lost all this money. Let's just forgive and forget.

Watching this after I went to watch the older video you referenced. It's so lovely to see how much more confident you two are now, especially Jordan. She seems less checking visually with McKay that she's not saying anything wrong, she's so outspoken now, less fidgety, seems much more confident in her own skin. McKay looks more confident now too, but I noticed especially Jordan. Good to see it for both of you ❤. Small edits: cute kitty! And Jordan, big ooofff on what you said about your mom, cause I've experienced the same issues with my mom (dad too, but mom more), my husband did with his parents as well. And surprise, we're not very close to either of them nowadays, even if they have gotten a bit better at boundaries and respect. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I moved to Utah 35 years ago in high school and had/raised 2 children here. The Mormon influence on our lives, my career, our family and my children have has huge. Due to all the discrimination (by people not by the Mormon church itself, to be clear), my daughter moved away for college and now has started her career out of state and will never move back. It's a tough place to grow up and even live to some degree as a non-Mormon. That said, there are so many amazing things about Utah we've decided to stay. I can relate to all you said and do feel I can speak on Mormon-ism, especially the impact on being non-Mormon here.

Obviously not entirely sure in this case as I do not know any of them, but I will say that this is a pretty common accusation thrown at atheists who used to be Christian. Some like to argue that we were never "truly Christian" as a way to deny the fact that people willingly leave the religion. Sometimes it isn't even malicious, they just genuinely believe that if you were ever really a Christian, you would know "the truth" and would not be able to leave and deny god.

I was even called an addict by my aunt when I asked for a Pepsi because I had a headache 😂 Do you think that dressing modestly and wearing garments is going to become another thing that the mainstream church will eventually stop caring about? Like, whatever source they got the garment thing from will be like the Word of Wisdom and just get interpreted differently so people can start wearing normal clothing without the shame?

What I’m missing here: how toxic Dakota seems. It’s not just the “is he cheating?” His communication patterns seem dangerous (as Macy said) “I love her too much” total BS, completely freaking out, gaslighting and then saying sorry and I love you. I’m not sure how genuine Taylor always is, she seems very insecure though and I feel like she should be on her own to figure out who she is. However, her gut feeling to not marry him seems right! (I think they got married now though) Maybe they are in therapy and figured things out but I felt nervous during the Las Vegas episode not only because of Zac (+ would have liked to know more about Mikayla’s situation…)

I think it’s so unfair that some of these girls are flaunting their clothing without garments and cussing every sentence, then doubling down about having the Temple Recommend. I asked my mom if anyone in my poor family in rural New Mexico did anything like that, would they keep their Temple Recommend and she was like “absolutely not.” The church is not only racist and sexist, but it’s also classist. Would a divorced black woman like Layla be given that much grace by her Bishop??? Nope. The pretty, popular, white and rich girls? Yep.

37:58 will be mentally blindsided by the Bundy Mormon thing. With all my usual “female who likes true crime docu- things and the like” and anything scammy, I now feel ill equipped with any smarts I had lol. Now to learn more lol

There was a Bundy docu-series on Netflix that talked about a decent bit from a while ago. I don’t recall the name though.

Demi is not ex-mormon! She said on viall files that she is not super rigid on the "cultural" practices like garments, alcohol, etc, she doesnt have a temple recommend, but believes in god and the more theological doctrine. Jessi uses the word ex mormon for herself, and Mikayla is inactive but I haven't heard what language she uses about herself. Otherwise the other 6 are mormon!

Layla is Mormon! She says she does her best going to church, but doesn't have a temple recommend. The viall files episode had more info than the show itself about each of their relationship with the church.

Not that I agree or love this - but Utah Romeo and Juliet laws have a 10 year allowed age difference for minors at the the age of consent (16). Most states are 3-5 years which makes sense for people who meet in high school. anyways, my point is Mikaylas relationship was legal even if it wasn't otherwise "right"

Yeah, I think I'd be way more embarrassed about the anti-trans shit, but sure, adults having consensual sex with each other is far, far worse. /s

With regard to the gambling husband pushing pressure on the wife who did nothing wrong: There's a german saying "Angriff ist die beste Verteidigung" (Offence/Attack is the best defence). The guy did that to distract from himself. Simple. Nasty. Typical abusive behavior.

Amazing chat! I finished the series last night and the Las Vegas part was sooo bad for me. Cant imagine that men behave like this in real life! Mayci was my fav person, and I did relate a lot to Whitney regarding friendship (not the bad things she did to them, but trying to move on), but I really dislike Taylor.. not sure why so many like her???
@Valerie-co8th
@Valerie-co8th 3 ай бұрын
Alot of people (including myself) really like Taylor because she isn't afraid of being who she is. She wants to live a life that is seen as highly valued by the church she grew up in. She has a lot of internal pressure that has come from the environment she grew up in. Which most people in that scenario would try to be covering up things, hiding things, making up excuses and dodging blame. She doesn't do that though. She takes accountability and she is trying to figure out how to improve herself. She is clearly struggling deeply with mental health issues which she does talk about having depression, being on medication. She keeps showing up, not running to hide from her mistakes but owning them and actively trying to figure out how to be better. Which is the exact reason people haven't taken to Whitney and she's receiving so much back lash is the complete lack of accountability. She doesn't own ANYTHING she's done which leads to zero improvement. If you're not acknowledging your mistakes you can't work on those things to be better.

I grew up Christian and what might be considered "fundie light." My Mom always told me the same thing when I left the house. Also "be sure your sins will find you out." It's just kind of funny because most things my parents would call a "sin" are exactly who I am now. A pansexual witch. But I am the most boring pansexual witch you ever met. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't even date because I'm honestly preferring being alone currently. It's funny and also really sad.

Did Jen and Taylor say they DIDNT want to go to the show?? I don’t remember them saying whether or not they wanted to go to the show, I remember them saying they can’t go because of their husbands freaking out and not trusting them.

As a former Southern Baptist, I am always surprised how similar my youth seems to have been to that of someone who grew up Mormon. Purity culture was constantly shoved down my throat. We were encouraged not to wear pants and we were taught the man is the head of the household. Sex was for procreation only. God is always watching. I could go on but you get the idea. My aunt married a Mormon man and converted to be with him. They had 6 children. My aunt had MS and she was wheelchair bound from her early 40’s until she passed away at age 60. For reasons that I can’t get into my dad and mom didn’t like my Uncle. I honestly don’t remember him as he was never there when we got together. He avoided my family.
