Honestly To me Gumball's worst episode would be The Parents. What i find the worst part of it was how technically Nicole was overpressured by her parents to live up to their expectations, such ad being born to be an CEO, her first name is Doctor, and have her do every school elective at the same time. While her parents try to justify thst she was bad too despite she was bad because of the pressure her parents built in her. Also you gotta compare them both Nicole getting back at her oarents isn't bad as her parents forcing her to marry some doctor. Her family including Anais passed this whole arguement as "both sides suck we're family let's get along". The writers may have said a possible victim of pressured abuse from parents is bad as the parents themselves

This episode could have been a good social satire. However, they used the wrong characters and their presentation of gender issues is...questionable. I'd rather not start a huge dumpster fire in this comment section. I'd also like to say that the imagination joke makes even less sense considering, well, you know, this show is written, animated, storyboarded, etc. by adults, and is probably one of the most creative cartoons on television.

This is funny
@venomouspassion57444 жыл бұрын
@@Eric-py8yy I doubt that it fails tbh, I think the irony here was pretty successful despite the simple design. The moral of this episode is that everyone's got their own advantages and disadvantages. There's no "worse" and even if there is, it isn't related to your gender, race , sex or age. It's related to the fact that you're a human and can go through problems sometimes worse than others'. It's a known fact that life isn't always fair to everyone, yet blaming others/whining and complaining has never genuiely helped anyone. Black ppl have their own issues, white people have their own. Some neighbourhoods treat black people better than white people, some boys are more looked down on than girls, some girls are paid more than boys etc, there are always exceptions. So looking for generalizations is the sign of a weak mentality that seeks to be victimized. And that's all there's to it, if you get offended by this you're also weak which again isn't because you're a man/woman, black/white, or kid/adult but because you keep looking for excuses to justify victimhood. That completely nails it.

The worst one were definitely "The Girlfriend" and "The Parents". The first one basically told the audience that if your partner (and Jaimie just decided that Darwin belonged to her) abuses you and makes you uncomfortable, just shut up and wait for them to realize of their own accord that what they're doing is bad. Abusive people usually don't give a fuck that they are hurting their victims, and this episode gave a downright horrible and toxic moral, especially for kids. And the Parents presented an abusive and toxic situation as "both sides are wrong", while Nicole is very clearly in the right, and it features a terrible toxic moral of "you should just forgive your parents for heavily abusing you just because they're your parents". So my pick is between these 2.

La Sammis There's also a lot of incentive to *not* fuck up keeping a job, especially if it's an industry where word of mouth can make or break your career when you're starting out. Most people (men and women) just don't have the financial flexibility to just drop a job even if the workplace environment is shit. + if public schools are any indication, equal distribution of gender in a group doesn't really reflect on how that particular approaches gender differences or discrimination.

This is a great example of how in later seasons, Gumball became way too cynical, way too "self aware", and way too satirical to the point where it was draining to watch. South Park is the series for this kind of story. Plus at times it seems the writers are full of themselves and treats the audience as if they are just as dumb as the characters.

i love your videos about TAWOG, because all my friends think it's childish, stupid, or super obnoxious. which isn't wrong, but that's what makes it great. they ignore the meta and dark humor, and the deep themes and see it as a simple kids show. but I really appreciate how even though technically it is a childrens show, you talk about it seriously and it's so nice to see someone else who actually enjoys the show and the humor, but can also recognize and point out flaws without hating the entire series because of that.

@doomersnek38784 жыл бұрын
The thing here is that the topics they try to bring up would be, either too much to talk about in animation or just flat out wrong. Like the "women being paid less for the same job" argument, which has been debunked countless times, but people still keep on perpetuating the argument. Then you can go even deeper, talking about how the studies focus on hourly pay jobs and, on average, women will work fewer hours than men. Thus women in those jobs will get paid less.
@unicorn18764 жыл бұрын
yes, you are right if you're talking about the states in general, but i'm pretty sure nicole was talking about elmore specifically or maybe even only the company she works at.
@doomersnek38784 жыл бұрын
@@unicorn1876 The episode was trying to make statements about these sorts of topics in general. Not the workspace in which the show takes place. The writers were trying to use said company she works at as a figure to generalize all workspaces.

Oh i see, so the moral of the story was “Women are Oppressed“ and Nicole was always right in this episode, right? @@joe6185 YES, I definitely agree. I don't know what people are expecting from a kids comedy show. I think it's great and exactly what I'd expect from this show. I feel like it's very relatable, personally. The problem is every time someone tries to represent something, people expect it to be perfect. Unpopular opinion I think this is ok and good but mostly ok.
@danielmunoz1275 Жыл бұрын
This is going to sound dismissive. I believe this is looking too much into the episode. This is just an excuse to make a bunch of jokes out of real life issues in certain groups that the characters fit in. Some episodes in Gumball for sure have the intention to deliver a message, but this one isn't one of them and it is clear from the beginning of it. The Glass Ceiling joke is a proof of it, if the episode really wanted to deliver a sound message or explanation about it, they would've gone into a creative interpretation and make in dept jokes about it, a whole episode could be made only about the Glass Ceiling idea, but instead what happens is a simple and quick joke, interpreting a literal glass ceiling. So, in conclusion: it is unfair to judge this episode in a serious critical thinking way when being serious and/or critical isn't the intention of the episode to begin with; however, saying whether the jokes/humor is good or not is entirely subjective. To me personally, this episode is ok, just an average episode that made me laugh the first time, that on subsequent rewatches I chuckle at, and I don't mind whether I watch it again or not, so I'd say is mid.
