Huge congrats on all the quarters! Always pays to keep your ears open. My dad is a barber in my area so I I'm always hounding him about getting me new permissions from his old timer customers. lol.

I have a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV, I'm a novice, and scored it for $20 at a yard sale. It does pretty good, and you get used to the different tones for various metals quickly. Has three settings: tone, disc, and all metal.

Great deduction,history has a way of showing itself when looked at with a need to know. Once I was detecting behind a well known pre civil war fort for protecting wagon trains and fur traders and found the lead from a lil hill were targets were set up and most were rim fire pistol bullets,no not a 22lr,then walked to were I'd be shooting a pistol from and found all cartridges for each lead bullet,these bullets were practice on Indians,the area behind the fort was also used to house settelers passing through for protection, wonderful video boys.

Thanks Joe. We had permission from the property owner as usual but I'm not in this hobby to detect for several hours just to give away all my finds. Unless it's a marked ring of course. I know they have sentimental value and I return every one of those =)
@cutaplug12 жыл бұрын
Wow that's aweomse! One of my dreams is to find a coin purse or jar of old coins =) I think that is what happened at this site because after returning a second time found 2 or 3 more silver quarters down from where I was hunting before. All were made a straight line...

Thanks for the kind words JC! The etrac is an awesome machine. When the weather is freezing and nasty again I will make a vid explaining all the settings and features sorta like a manual on video to help new users understand it better.

Bounty hunter makes pretty good starter units and I'm sure the platinum would serve you well. You might also check out the Tesoro Silver uMax. They don't have a screen but are a very popular entry level machine. The garret Pro pointer is a must in my opinion. I can't go detecting without it and the pinpointer is something you don't want to buy a cheap one.

Thanks =) Happy New Year to you too!

Got a chance to go back there for about 2 hours today and pulled one more silver quarter about 30 yards from where I got the last ones. Means they could be scattered to different parts since this one wasn't in the same area as the last bunch. That totals 8 silver quarters and one silver dime between Dad and I... Really want to find the motherload but still haven't run across it yet =)

And if you don't mind sharing. About where do you live?
@cutaplug12 жыл бұрын
That's what we're hoping =) There are household goods like clothes, buttons, and other items scattered around so I think they just dozed it over and mixed the stuff in. There was a brick commercial building that got dozed at the same time and they pushed a lot of it over a hill behind it for fill.
@cutaplug11 жыл бұрын
Good question. It depends on what you want to focus on finding. As a general rule the ones from 1k-10k do better on high conductive targets like silver coins. 10k-20k do better on low conductive like gold targets. A good general machine will run between 6k and 15k for the most part.
@CoinHuntingDrew12 жыл бұрын
Dude this is awesome! Man, do you think when they dozed the house over they just kept the ruins and dirt there? Because what I'm thinking is there's a pile of dirt somewhere in the ground or something somewhere from this house being knocked down with just tons of quarters in it.
@cutaplug11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip =) I actually use old topo maps which have all the old schools marked.

The Bounty Hunter Platinum has caught my attention as well as the Garrett Pro-Pointer. I like the features that both have. These put me at $430, if free shipping.....LOL, $500 is very MAX for all. Have to keep it reasonable til I know how much the set will be used. The detector is the biggest question. I know that the highest price doesn't always mean the best or a better value.

I don't know if you know about HistoricAerials, but if you look on there there's pretty old maps. I found some baseball fields dating back to the late 40's or so on there, they are in the ishy part of cleveland, between ghetto and not so ghetto. I'll probably call up the fairgrounds place, I also found somewhere there's some near by like 30 minutes away, that city also has a bad area to it, but who knows.

Thanks for the kind words =) Please let me know your budget and I'll try to suggest a few good detectors in that price range. There are so many out there if you could give me a starting point it'd help. The equipment I use: Minelab etrac $1,500, NEL tornado coil $ 250, Garrett Pro Pointer $130. I know that sounds like a lot but I started with a cheap unit and worked my way up to that over a few years. Last year I more than paid for all that with my finds now that I've gotten better.

The camera has a mfg code on it for the year of 1943. Has some rust on it but otherwise looks pretty good. Neighbor says it's worth a few dollars so I put it up on eBay and the most I could get out of it was $275. I didn't sell it.

sometimes the best detecting you can due is in your own home. I live in my grandparents old house (they both passed and we wanted it to stay in the family) Found an old Cigar box under an old hope chest in the attic. 70 odd silver coins. Mercs, rosies, washingtons, liberties, couple franklin dollars, 2 kennedies, even an old V nickel tossed in with a pile of early 60's nickels.

I just wish there were areas and maps out in my area that I could go and detect. Most is private property, I've called around, not sure though because the city claims all there abandoned houses (30+) are "private property and they dont own them" At least I found a cottage in the middle of the woods (next to a newer house, lol) and a lot where fairgrounds were back in the late 70's when my dad was just starting college.
@cutaplug11 жыл бұрын
Will have to check next time I'm in that area. I think it may be a piece of trash or something cause I don't think I would have missed it if it was that close. Do you see a face or eagle? I'm just not seeing it LOL =)

@01antlerman12 жыл бұрын
A few years ago I used a metal detector in plowed field. The strange thing was that I found several dimes, guarters,heat pennies and a golg ring. The wiedr thing is that I found all of the coins in a straight line and wheh I got closer to the end I found a old leather coin change purse. The purse still had several more dimes in it. It seems the guy with the bull dozed pushed this purse on the surface causing all of these coins to be found. the coins were from the 1940coins
@cutaplug11 жыл бұрын
They're worth taking a picture of and logging into my database for future reference, that way I know exactly what I found at the site. Junk will give you way more information about a site than coins will. I don't keep junk but if you're only worried about the monetary value of finds you're in the wrong hobby...
