The 4.2L V8 was shortly lived. It was a good little engine. This was also a V8 option for the Fox Body Granada's in early 80's. That is where I remember them the most. You had the 250 inline 6, 3.8L V6 and the 4.2L V8 as engine options. The full size had 4.2L, 5.0L and 5.8L. Then going into the 90's, it was mainly the 5.0L that was the most common engine.

Due to its dismal overall performance the 255 was dropped at the end the 1982 car model-year with 253,000 units manufactured - 302 production continued, Vic's been 302/351 since 1983, look it up.

You "performance-oriented" exhaust fans ought to experience a stock 1960s Lincoln dual exhaust system, with four (4) mufflers... and a 'crossover pipe' behind the back seat, in between the front and rear mufflers --- Yes, real mufflers, not resonators. ... Such Lincoln dual exhaust systems are very quiet, even when accelerating. --- Remarkable!

A 1989 model Crown Victoria isn't supposed to have a 4.2L from the factory. It should be either 5.0L or (rarely) 5.8L. Nice exhaust, though. I have one of the same year.

The 351 was an option in fleet service and police cars, because they were all carbureted and the 302 was fuel injection so by the late 80's people would rather have the less maintenance EFI.

This is bad ass, but I don’t think that car is a 4.2 V8. According to my research that V8 was phased out in the very early 80’s and was long gone by 89’. Unless it was swapped in, this car is most likely a 5.0 302.
