Pros and Cons of Ottawa as a resident: Pros: Relaxing atmosphere, wilderness just minutes away, transit system is decent, good museums, small town feel in a big city, mostly everyone is friendly, rideau canal in winter for skating, plenty of local parks, 4 distinct seasons, employment is generally strong but pigeonholed into certain sectors - cost of living is low compared to bigger cities. Cons: It's way too cold in winter and it lasts too long, the city is largely silent in winter, lacks an obvious style (something that says - Ottawa), city maintenance is too slow, not enough festivals, government workers increase rush hour by 2 hours (really needs more roads), if you aren't into sport or the outdoors there isn't enough to do, and the city is really spread out. Conclusion: If you love the outdoors and embrace every season but also love friendly people and small cities this is a great place for you! For me it is a good compromise, I just have to make it through the winter and I'm fine :).

For anyone who says Ottawa is boring, please understand any city is boring if you dont go out to do stuff. While cities like Toronto and Montreal have very in-your-face flashy attractions, in Ottawa you have to venture a little deeper to discover some really cool things. There are so many cool places to visit that just aren’t obvious, but once you find them you’ll truly feel fulfilled!

Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as Canada's capital because it was situated between Lower and Upper Canada, and as well, because it was far from the American border; Toronto, Kingston, London, Montreal, were too close.
@nate88924 жыл бұрын
*And Quebec City too french lmao
@nochatter71344 жыл бұрын
@123benny4 NO She Didn’t stop lying on my Canada. Canadians chose Ottawa as a capital together. Basically Ottawa was chosen cuz neither Montreal & Toronto were suitable as either were too anglophone or Francophone. OTTAWA was a mixture of both and between the 2 cities & it happened to be a little far from US border. Montreal was always the financial hub of Canada from its founding by Jacques Cartier via St. Lawrence River until the 1940’s (now it’s Toronto) so being close to US border became less of an issue. Also literally no one even knows or cares about the old woman you’re naming !!
@123benny44 жыл бұрын
@@nochatter7134 Ahh, still, historically, Queen Victoria chose Ottawa. Lower and Upper Canada translates to Quebec and Ontario and French Canada and English Canada. You haven't gone back enough in history. As for the other things you've said, already knew that. Those are modern times. I live in Montreal, but am originally from the Toronto area.
@nochatter71344 жыл бұрын
@123benny4 No you didn’t say what I said. You gave the sole decision to a monarchy that Natives, Francophones & even many Canadians never recognize. You are pushing a cringe narrative here and am the perfect person to tell you so. I’m 4th generation Canadian, my grandparents are scottish. My father is born in Orleans, Italian on my mom side. OTTAWA was chosen solely by all Canadians at that time, your living room history by english teachers doesn’t cut in the real world. This is why Canadians send their kids to schools in big urban cities cuz atleast history can’t be distorted there 🤨
@123benny44 жыл бұрын
@@nochatter7134 You may think what you want to think but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true. History gets washed to suit whomever. You can change what actually happened. I googled this and this is what came up: Queen Victoria One hundred and fifty years ago Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital of the United Province of Canada. As one of the oldest and the fourth largest municipality in Canada, the City of Ottawa has a story to tell that encompasses but is also distinct from its role as the national capital.

It's really unfortunate that Ottawa is one of the most boring cities in Canada. Also, people like to say that Ottawa is a very cold city during the winter. Ottawa is definitely not like Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, but it's more laid-back for elders and there's at least one sports team which is the Ottawa Senators (NHL) that can at least make you excited.
@gnexus016 жыл бұрын
I lived in Ottawa for 18 years. It's true it's very cold in the Winter, and the buses often get stuck in the snow. Why ? Because the city thought it was a smart idea to use a articulated bus that is rear driven, in Ottawa Winters...
