Just a quick note from a 50 year Alaskan and long time sport fisherman there. A 60 pound halibut hooked in 40 to 50 feet of water will definitely run like that. They are incredibly strong and in shallow water make long long hard runs. In deeper water they will make a hard run and then quit because they are just hugging the bottom. Once you start bringing them up they will run again but alway down and away. Love the channel, have been a subscriber since the beginning so I'm not a troll I just hope you catch a big one some day in shallow water so you can see what they are really like. Since you are starting to make regular trips to Alaska it will happen. Hope it's not in a kayak because that will be a real zoo. We always shot the big ones with a "snake charmer" because they can be so hard on the boat and anything around. Keep up the great videos and my hats off to the wonderful photography Joslin does. I was a journalist and know what it takes.

Gotta say.. I've been bingeing your posts for the past while and this one really stands out to me for some reason. Maybe because this is something anyone could do. No fancy equipment or ingredients. Pure catch and cook.

Could have been a salmon shark. That line snapped easy once home boy set pressure on that line. They're really cool, but fiesty fish. But glad you're enjoying Alaska this summer with your air kayak! I recently took a charter there and got my first toad halibut! Stay safe

Taku. You’ve really inspired me To get back in fishing but also to expand my experience in foraging but mostly trying out kayak fishing. Id love to see a video giving a break down to people how to do “kayak fishing” gear breakdown. How you choose the areas. What your setup would look like for a simple kayak fishing day. Alll that stuff. Would be very interesting to me

Being a long time, old time AK resident and fisher, I closely view your videos for??? A very enjoyable video with a super fine Homer AK beach scenes featuring Outdoor Chef's super fine prepped feasts. Scenery around your fishing kayak trip really searched my memory as to where you were. Plus, vehicles on a Homer City beach? That would never have occurred in the 60's-70's. Many credits to you catching a halibut on a kayak in AK. Many years ago kayak fishing and beach vehicles would have been were ridiculous thoughts in K Bay. K Bay once had a big "Dungie" crab fishery that I think got over harvested many years ago and it has yet to recover. Those beach fishers in your background were maybe after pinks (humpies). But I have never ever seen any bait and wait beach fishers in Homer. Success for pinks used to be mainly casting Pixie lures from the shore.

I would not describe Taku as just A Chef he is a Local Chef Local to his surroundings harvesting only what he needs to get by using edible resources from the land when Possible anyone can call a number or go on a webpage and order some of the ingredients Taku Forage's for But knowing where they come from the region and actually getting hands on with the food you eat that is what seperates good from Great that is what makes the food taste better than anything you could ever get in a restaurant even a Michelin Star do not get me wrong a Michelin restaurant's food taste great but there is something about gathering the Ingredients yourself that makes it a notch or two above the rest (Thank you Taku for a Great video as always again arigatou...)

When I was young I cooked in several restaurants, from casual to Michelin Star fine dining. As a result, there are very few of the catch, clean, cook channels I actually watch the cooking part. This channel is the exception. Taku’s is incredible.
