This is one of the things I like about Elder Scrolls, we don't really know the true history and mythos of the most powerful beings in that universe, which helps to persevere some of the fun and mystery. We know that there are very powerful beings, such as the deadra and the heart of lorkian, because we have interacted with them ourselves or recent great historical figures in the games have done so. Other than that, though, you could come up with your own theories all you want and they would be just as canonically valid as what any of the characters believe.

The only real problem I have with this one is how elf centric it is. The "Lorkhan is the bad guy" idea is very much a Mer thing. But I suppose it cannot be helped. The elves reached high culture first and so most of the accounts of TES history were written by elves.

Isn't Lorkhan and Shor the same dude?
@jacobfreeman54447 жыл бұрын
Darth Imperious Ah, yes. But each culture sees him differently. Elves as a whole see him as a trickster who took their divine right to being all powerful spirits. Nords, as Shor, see him as a hero god and chief force in the act of creation. I think the Redguards don't like him for some reason (not very knowledgeable about their culture). And who knows what native views the others have. The Imperial cult did a great job of stamping out any opposing views or merging with them.

@jacobfreeman54447 жыл бұрын
Yulien If they were so stupid as to not understand what they thing they were creating would do then they deserve it. I think the whole "we were tricked" thing is a way for the descendants of Aedra to save face when they ended up footing the bill. I really doubt all of them were tricked. It paints the Aedra as being massively incompetent. Mote likely the lesser Aedra just didn't understand what was really happening and the greater Aedra blamed Lorkhan since he was convenient. I am not even sure his killing was a punishment but part of the ritual to complete the project. And since he couldn't defend himself anymore they were just like "oops, we were tricked. Damn that bad, bad Lorkhan. He so bad."
@the_dropbear43927 жыл бұрын
Jacob Freeman And when he died he became Shor, who didn't have to give up loads of energy to stabilise nirn and he didn't lose power to his own trap, so he is much more active then the aedra who are dormant due to power loss, it takes the shattering if the amulet of kings and all the dragon emperor souls within to summon Akatosh. Where as Shor sends down his avatars all the time. Talos is made up of (Hijalti Early Beard-dragonborn, a Nord/breton. Wulfharth of Atmora, an ancient high king is skyrim and shezzarine avatar of shor. And Zurin Arctus-also a shezzarine.) They became Talos and Mantled Lorkan, also they achieved CHIM, something that Lorkan failed due to not having a mortals perspective. So he kind of got what he wanted in the end. The whole creation was to allow beings to achieve CHIM, and he managed it himself, He played everyone, the gods punished by 'killing' him got him exactly what he wanted, Shor are at least part of shor achieved CHIM

Great video, though still a little simplified. Honestly, the Dawn era is probably the hardest to cover, right off the bat. You really have to have your metaphysics down to understand everything that's happening, and what they mean. TES is, above all, about the struggle between stasis and change, and the power dynamic between authority and rebellion.
@andrewkaiser70305 жыл бұрын
great video as always, but if i recall correct, tolkein has both accounts. in the silmarilion (sp), the first two "books" are the story of creation as it was in true and then as far as the elves knew. (only like 30 pages total cover both)

also Tolkien loved to leave his ideas fluid. He has several conflicting stories, battles, etc written on notes for stories he did not have time to write himself. i think this uncertainty with distant past events adds to the realism. in fact he even went back and reeditted the hobbit before starting the LOTR (not much was changed to be fare but the original speaks of the ring a little less if i recall.) also hard to get your hand on the pre editted copy :(

It bothers me too that so many seem to believe just the high elves account of creation. They are biased. They say they were tricked but how did that happen? Were they such fools they didn't realize what they were creating would do? If so they deserve to be tricked. They had a cosmic level kick me sign on their back. And Lorkhan just swooped in to get what he wanted from such idiots. But I am of the mind they knew what they were getting into...at least the ones in charge did. If there was any tricking it was likely the Aedric pantheon who did it. I am of the mind that Lorkhan got what he wanted and did everything he could for it. Creation. An ever changing plane that would embody both stasis and change. It's change being part of an cycle and so is stasis. But never the same at any one time. So it is also change. Chaos and order forever balancing each other.
@yawnosmannonen49347 жыл бұрын
they only discovered what was actually happening to them as it happened. magnus designed the plans, lorkhan changed them or manipulated them in some way. i assume as such otherwise magnus would have known from the start as he primary designed the whole thing, or maybe it was too complex for even him to understand fully. and it comes from more than just the Mer history that lorkhan is considered a trickster as that is his nature, his goal was to cause change to the universe. Thats why he created nirn however unlike sithis before him he didn't crave only change. lorkhan purposefully tricks the other spirits into limiting themselves so that they can learn how to become more than what they already were by learning to use CHIM to is full potential lorkhan had discovered CHIM himself before this but was unable to fully master it because he was an infinite god being and he could not possibly perceive himself as being more than what he already was. he recognized that limitation however and knew only a finite not godlike being would be able to fully perceive CHIM and its full potential. Thats why he set out on his plan to convince/trick the other spirits into not being gods anymore so they could learn to become more than what they were. although I think he had some "only the worthy will learn the secrets" mentality because he never taught CHIM to anyone that im aware of. Then again lorkhan not teaching CHIM to anyone may be because of the wars that followed and him being technically "killed" and all that...

Good video, still a little bit simplified for my tastes but that may be just the fact that I been reading TES Lore since 2002. However, still a good job BUT totally wasted opportunity on the fate of Lorkhan to use one of the best quotes in the game IMO "But when Trinimac and Auriel tried to destroy the Heart of Lorkhan it laughed at them. It said, 'This Heart is the heart of the world, for one was made to satisfy the other." So Auriel fastened the thing to an arrow and let it fly long into the sea, where no aspect of the new world may ever find it.'" - The Monomyth. I would say if anything the major difference between lores is one is TES allows the readers to form their own ideas, it's almost like our own real world in that sense. Tolkien's creation is absolute. There are no differing accounts. What happened is what happened. It's recorded like a History book. I'd also consider this because of the time-wimey nature of the TES series it also makes it harder to really nail down anything. (Looking at you Dragonbreaks, Kalpas, Walking Ways etc).

pretty sure aldmeris was actually tamreil and that the old ehlnofey actually fled to the summer set isles as a result of the wars between the old ehnolfey and the wanderers. The wars, and time, likely destroyed or covered up any remains of "aldmeris" as its said that a portion of the Old ehlnofey original home world survived with cities still on it when Nirn was formed. those ehlnofey who didn't arrive with the rest of the old world and were scattered across nirn and became the wanderers before finding tamreil and the unchanged ehlnofey still following the Old ways. after all we are talking about wars with akatosh and lorkan being directly involved physically on nirn participating in the war, that has to be seriously destructive in nature. also if the Dwemer found some ancient buried secrets from that period it may explain why they were able to advance so quickly.

Actually, it was Lorkhan and Auriel who fought one another, Akatosh wasn't made as a Time God till later on, in the 1st Era But yeah, overall the Mer lost their homeland since Tamriel, the heart of Aldmeris, was likely uninhabitable after the War and they left, only to return and find the descendants of the Wanderers occupying it once again

But if a Moth Priest already is trained and prepared to read one, how come no one has ever inquired about the origins of Mundus and all creation?

can you do more good stuff like star wars and especially lotr videos.... ?? these other ones are kind of dull and a waste of your time and skills... just look at the views... do Narnia or something good and new if not... tolkien s work compares in no way to the poor fantasy of today.
