Ive been installing 12v electrics in cars/caravans for 20 something years, I still watched your video through till the end. The time you have taken to plan and deliver a concise message for this install is commendable. I’ll definitely be sending this video to people who are asking me for help in the future! Well done

One of the best all around electrical videos on the internet for van builds, thank you so much for putting this together! I’m in the process of gutting and upgrading the electrical system in our class C, and while I can’t quite afford all the high end stuff you have here, it’s still extremely useful from a planning perspective. Now if only the price of copper would go down… 🤨 Keep up the good work, the world of DIY really appreciates it!

Wow!!! The quality of your tutorials is light years ahead of anything I have ever seen on youtube! The attention to detail, the professional filming/editing, the pedagogical explanations, everything! Having this freely available is mind-blowing. And this comes from a non-native English speaker from Europe used to the simplicity of the metric system, who gets the chills every time some weird units pop up, like 4/0, 5/16", 6 gauge and whatnot :D. Kudos for the work on the Closed-Captions that make even these confusing units/words accessible :) Unfortunately, the mismatch in units/electrical systems means I probably won't be buying many kits from your website, but I wish your business to prosper nonetheless and I will for sure keep on watching more of your videos :).

I'm not building a camper any time soon but the explanations of the principles of how to wire up solar and batteries is so good that I can't stop watching. Once again, thanks for your comprehensive videos! My biggest hurdle (after buying the van) has been sourcing materials. Stuff like "what kind of wood should this be?" or "what's a good price for x?" It's incredibly frustrating to buy something only to realize you've been taken for an extra 50-100%. Because of its popularity there is just so much out there. Your shop and material recommendations are solid, with good prices. It's definitely possible to get lower prices, but if one doesn't have 3 months to wait for a sale, or does not want to endlessly pick up metal shavings around the garage, your shop is a fantastic place to start.

Every time I watch your videos I feel enlightened and afraid at the same time, thinking about building and electrical codes that I might’ve not followed 😮. A magnificent demonstration! I have always respected your skills and talent for explaining so concisely. Bravo! One point that gave me a shiver; the PCB ground connection wire on the negative buss has a RED terminal ring on the end!! That is a bit misleading. Design flaw at Victron?
@EXPLORISTlife
@EXPLORISTlife 2 жыл бұрын
Hey George, I sure appreciate that! It means a lot coming from someone who has the impeccable attention to detail that you do. Thanks for watching! I also hate how smaller ring terminals like that are color coded. Traditionally, the small ring terminals (18-22awg) have red heat shrink on them (14-16 are blue, 10-12 are yellow, and then red again for 8ga (because there are apparently only three colors?) but this definitely leads to a bad feeling when trying to connect a small wire with red insulation because of it's size to a negative busbar.

The only improvement victron could do, that I think would make this easier was if all the different "blue boxes" would use the same communication method. EG using all RJ45 cabling. This would make the install easier and cleaner, with custom made cable lengths. And maybe the GX com could power and communicate with the touch screen via POE. I'm not even building any systems like this, but great video!!

This is an “Incredibly & Complete” educational video well worth the time to watch. You cleared all my questions that I had with the 24V VE Equiptment (especially with the solar controllers and VE system to chassis grounding). Well done! Kudos! Looking forward to seeing your next video. Thank you. Blessings to y’all.

Great video ! My wife and I will not have need for solar, as the shuttle bus we are going to convert will be used either in a park or the driveway of friends/family - in other words - shore power only for AC. No need to convert DC to AC. Will need a converter for charging the battery. It's been a challenge to eliminate all of the components so many videos use.

Yeah, that's a pretty minimal system and atypical for viewers of this channel so I don't have any direct tutorials for something like that at this time, unfortunately; but I suspect if you check out some of our DIY camper and electrical play lists and watch through those, you'll be able to learn enough to be able to design one yourself.

What an amazing video. you guys are so good.. Whatever money some person spent that wanted a van like that would be so worth it to have you are guys doing the job. You really do everything so correctly correctly ...anyways you're right thanks to battleborn for sponsoring the video. well I didn't read any of the other comments but I'm sure there's some similar ones to mine. Thanks again you really break it down great all the wiring and everything. Wire size. What tools to use and everything. It is amazing, so helpful. At the end of the video You said I hope you learned something while I sure did. Thank you...😁

Wow, this is really an amazing video. I built out a 600w/640ah system 11 years ago now, and it was such a struggle back then. The components have come a really long way. This has been a great refresher as I'm starting a new build, and will absolutely be going with Victron for the components. Thanks!

Hi! A suggestion: Next time you use Sikaflex do not tighten the bolts to the max. Tighten them slightly, wait for curing and the next day tighten the nuts to the final torque. A better alternative to Sikaflex for fixed items such as the pedestal would be butyl tape. Less messy and can easy be separated if needed. Good luck and regards from Switzerland, Silvano

Great! I usually do not have the patience to turn a 5 minute sealing project into a 2-day project when the method I show seals just fine; but the next time I do, maybe I'll try that.

I would love to build out something like this (electrician by trade). Great video, very detailed. At 1:09:48 when you were plugging the 30amp shore power cord into the shop's 15 amp duplex receptacle you had to invert the cord which would cause it to fall out of the receptacle in short order. Flip the receptacle over so that the cord hangs down.

If that were a more permanent connection, I would. Pretty much only using that outlet like that for the 3 minutes it took to shoot the video so it's not worth the effort to change.

Crazy how many victron components you need to solve such system requirements... thats why i desided to buy a deye inverter, which is capable to manage 3 strings, battery, Grid-Load and an optional generater in one. But a very nice and solid build! :)

Yeah, It's like buying a honda civic to get you from point A-to-B vs building an old muscle car from the ground up. 🙂👍 Both will get you where you're trying to go, but one will teach you a ton along the way and give full and ultimate customization.

Thanks for watching! We 'almost' did a video earlier this year that would have been a HUGE 48V split phase system that would have been a mobile solar trailer for farmers markets, events, concerts, etc; but the trailer was in an accident a few weeks before install and they couldn't get a replacement, so we had to scrap the project for now.

Glad you liked it! Please don't plug your van into public electric car chargers. Using a public EV charger to charge the house battery bank of your fuel burning RV is a great way to get even more parking restrictions placed on RV's, vans, and campers. If you must plug in...I must urge you to pay for a night at an RV park.

Nate. You are indeed a HELPER personality and I believe you enjoy that as much as you love building campers - if not more. I sat through this entire video and now I know why your tshirt says what it says. Haha. I’m designing my own bumper pull RV camper and I want it to be SPECIAL. I promise as I study more I’ll get smart enough to actually begin to order my kits. The fact that you make these kits with this much detail (love?) put into them is such a huge huge huge service. It prevents us noob’s from making Frankenstein systems that don’t work well. If I said thanks as much as you say the saying on your tshirt it would barely be enough to thank you enough. Cheers buddy! Quick question. Why a 24v system and not simply a 12v system?
