This video will show you, start-to-finish, how we installed a full DIY Camper Van electrical system into this 2021 Ford Transit Camper Van.
In this transit electrical install, we cover a wide range of topics, so we have included chapters at the bottom of this description if you need to find a specific part of the install.
This comprehensive video will cover wiring a 24V Battery Bank, building the battery enclosure for the camper out of 80/20, wiring a battery heater, wiring a lynx shunt and lynx distributor, installing a rooftop solar panel array, installing a ground deploy solar array, wiring a Victron MultiPlus, wiring the chassis ground in a camper van, wiring a 24V Nomadic A/C, wiring a 24V to 12V Victron Orion converter, wiring two 12V fuse blocks, wiring a 120V breaker box, wiring 30A shower power to the MultiPlus, wiring the Victron Cerbo GX and GX Touch 70 (with an HDMI hack!), mounting batteries to the camper van, wiring the battery bank to a lynx shunt, wiring a solar isolator, wiring an auxiliary solar port, and finally, programming and testing our electrical system in the van.

Ive been installing 12v electrics in cars/caravans for 20 something years, I still watched your video through till the end. The time you have taken to plan and deliver a concise message for this install is commendable. I’ll definitely be sending this video to people who are asking me for help in the future! Well done

This has been a great refresher as I'm starting a new build, and will absolutely be going with Victron for the components. Thanks!

One of the best all around electrical videos on the internet for van builds, thank you so much for putting this together! I’m in the process of gutting and upgrading the electrical system in our class C, and while I can’t quite afford all the high end stuff you have here, it’s still extremely useful from a planning perspective. Now if only the price of copper would go down… 🤨 Keep up the good work, the world of DIY really appreciates it!

Wow!!! The quality of your tutorials is light years ahead of anything I have ever seen on youtube! The attention to detail, the professional filming/editing, the pedagogical explanations, everything! Having this freely available is mind-blowing. And this comes from a non-native English speaker from Europe used to the simplicity of the metric system, who gets the chills every time some weird units pop up, like 4/0, 5/16", 6 gauge and whatnot :D. Kudos for the work on the Closed-Captions that make even these confusing units/words accessible :) Unfortunately, the mismatch in units/electrical systems means I probably won't be buying many kits from your website, but I wish your business to prosper nonetheless and I will for sure keep on watching more of your videos :).

I'm a fairly experienced solar system builder (non Pro), having built a handful of systems for our multiple full-time RV rigs over the years. This video is simply astounding in terms of content detail, product knowledge, delivery, editing, camera work. It does not get better than this. I wish that I could justify the multiple blue box systems used here, but, for me, really cannot. The only aspect of the entire system that I am not thrilled about, is the use of multiple drop-in batteries to power the system and the resulting reliance on charge and load devices each being programmed and managing their own charge and load parameters through network systems that, in my years of IT experience, I find not to be 100% reliable. Other than that personal preference, this is simply the de factor reference for DIY solar & LFP systems builds on KZbin. Thank you for the effort, and your kits are extremely well designed and built. I wish you every success in this venture, and am amazed that you are not over 1 million views on this video already! I will do my bit! :-) Oh, one tiny niggle I forgot to mention - the Orion runs VERY hot and it's best to mount it vertically as it is designed to exit the rising internal hot air through the top. It cannot do this when mounted horizontally.

Once again, thanks for your comprehensive videos! My biggest hurdle (after buying the van) has been sourcing materials. Stuff like "what kind of wood should this be?" or "what's a good price for x?" It's incredibly frustrating to buy something only to realize you've been taken for an extra 50-100%. Because of its popularity there is just so much out there. Your shop and material recommendations are solid, with good prices. It's definitely possible to get lower prices, but if one doesn't have 3 months to wait for a sale, or does not want to endlessly pick up metal shavings around the garage, your shop is a fantastic place to start.

This is a fantastic install video. It gave me a lot of inspiration for the system that I am currently building for my Jayco Alante. As a professional ambulance mechanic, I see rat's nest wiring jobs on the daily. Its so satisfying to see someone take pride in their work and have a thoughtfully laid out system. I will provide one piece of advice for future installs... Purely from a technician's POV; I would recommend having a short loop of excess wire (we call it a service loop) at each connection to a mounted component. It very marginally increases the amount of wire you use, however as the name implies when it comes to servicing and trouble shooting components it helps to have a little built-in slack in the system.

One of the best most comprehensive build videos I have seen. As a tech who builds these systems in mobile command posts I have two pieces of advise. First, Only use the washers and nuts that come with the battery fuse terminals. These terminals pull current through the first washer and simply tossing a stainless steel washer in there will heat up enough to burn your hands, melt plastic and even start a fire. Second, would be to include some active cooling in that enclosure. Inverters get very hot and a simple PC fan on a thermal switch circuit can extend the life of everything in that enclosure. Less of a technical comment and more of a preference would be to hit all that birch plywood with some wipe on poly, wax or some other clear coat to keep the wood from staining. Even the sweat from your hands can leave marks on the birch ply and if you are OCD your gonna go nuts.

Hey TheReefaholic, thanks for watching! Re: 1: Of course! That's exactly what we did. Battle Born batteries come with two lengths of bolts for their battery terminals. We used the shorter of the two they supplied. Re: 2: There is about 27sq/in of ventilation around the back of the enclosure and around the lid, which should be adequate based on the hundreds of systems I've consulted on. *If it's NOT adequate*, I'll add a fan controlled either by enclosure temperature or have the fan turn on when the multiplus fans turn on. I'll make a video teaching how to do this if I end up needing to do it. I don't anticipate needing this, but that's the plan if I do. Re: 3: We did back when we installed the walls. Here's the video for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZeVc52HrbJ-eqs

Perfect timing for this to show in my feed since the nephew was asking for ideas on _HIS_ van/camper setup. You have set the gold standard of van build KZbin wiring tutorials - seriously. You two should be very proud - and worn out - after making this totally complete video. Boom! My van build went almost totally opposite in wiring complexity, using a simple 12v Blue Seas fuse block, 12v wiring to puck lights, USB panels, MaxxAir fan and ICECO fridge/freezer all powered with one of my Ecoflow Delta lithium power units. But, then again, we are not off-gridders on BLM land, or forest land. The most "off-grid" we get is a Cracker Barrel,, Bass Pro, highway rest area or national park campground. And we do trips, not van life. You always do great videos, but you outdid yourself this time! : )

Hello guys, awesome video these one but also all the how to series from top to bottom, incredible clear and precise information. As a starting KZbinrs ourselves builders of our own 1982 RV (and I say builders because we demolished it and started over from zero) I feel ashamed of showing our rudimentary adventures about how we (me and my wife) do things. Every time I watch your videos I feel enlightened and afraid at the same time, thinking about building and electrical codes that I might’ve not followed 😮. People who watch our videos consider me smart and creative but I feel embarrassed of mi self when I see the clean and professional work you guys do, we admire you’re talents and thanks you for sharing with us rookies.

Thanks for watching! We 'almost' did a video earlier this year that would have been a HUGE 48V split phase system that would have been a mobile solar trailer for farmers markets, events, concerts, etc; but the trailer was in an accident a few weeks before install and they couldn't get a replacement, so we had to scrap the project for now.

A magnificent demonstration! I have always respected your skills and talent for explaining so concisely. Bravo! One point that gave me a shiver; the PCB ground connection wire on the negative buss has a RED terminal ring on the end!! That is a bit misleading. Design flaw at Victron?
@EXPLORISTlife
@EXPLORISTlife Жыл бұрын
Hey George, I sure appreciate that! It means a lot coming from someone who has the impeccable attention to detail that you do. Thanks for watching! I also hate how smaller ring terminals like that are color coded. Traditionally, the small ring terminals (18-22awg) have red heat shrink on them (14-16 are blue, 10-12 are yellow, and then red again for 8ga (because there are apparently only three colors?) but this definitely leads to a bad feeling when trying to connect a small wire with red insulation because of it's size to a negative busbar.
