Today we take another look at some "Physical NFT's" that i found in my local game store. and honestly its an absolute mess. broken apps, destruction of mother nature through NFT's, and sad childeren. i cannot wait for NFT's to vanish.
In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts on physical NFT trading cards. I think they're insanely dumb, and I think they're a scam.Don't waste your time and money on physical NFT trading cards - they're just a scam!I don't think they're worth the time or effort, and I think they're pointless. I think they're a scam because there's no real benefit to owning them other than bragging rights. And I think they're pointless because there's no real use for them in the world.

You're just being assigned a number that points to something. Anyone old enough to buy vinyl records before they originally went out of favour and before they came back would remember "limited edition" records. You'd get a record and it would have a number printed on it. Not saying NFTs are exactly like that but they're trying the same trick digitally. Probably why I never get involved with NFTs as I remember the limited edition record rubbish.

Arguably physical nfts are more nonfungible than real nfts. Physical cards can have individual serial numbers, and individual condition and alterations. By comparison, regular nfts point to a completely fungible copy of an image that can be infinitely duplicated. Kind of like a dollar is always a dollar but a baseball card value depends on condition, they aren't fungible

I don't know if it's a European thing, but we have these chocolate eggs with a small toy inside (Kinder Surprise). There is a collection of these toys and they are small plastic animals. You can scan the figure using a mobile app and it will put the animated version of the animal in front of you using AR. You can use voice commands to let the animal do jumps, dances, whatever... And it also works as a learning tool so you can learn more stuff about the animal and play different mini-games. It's a cheap thing for kids and even that is way more useful, interactive, and interesting than this NFT crap.

The main reason a treat like that is banned from the US is because the toy being in the egg classes it as a choking hazard. Just tell the kid you're going to give them ice cream, get them real hyped up for ice cream, and trade something they like for the ice cream, with the promise you'll give the item back even better. Then send them a jpg of ice cream and after a while just delete the message. That's the experince and feeling of owning a NFT right there! 🤣 Then give them ice cream later, once they have processed and internalized the feeling so they never forget how disappointed and hurt they were by the betrayal. It's even a lesson you can possibly call back to in the future whenever they break a promise.

If DC just made regular trading card, they might actually sell better. Make shinny comic book cover cards as the rare cards. I love it. First, we have real scarcity, thanks to the limitations of physical goods. Then we get artificial scarcity, where a producer intentionally makes less of their goods to artificially increase value. Then, we got imaginary scarcity, with digital goods that are given completely made up limitations, like NFTs. And now, these geniuses have combined both artificial and imaginary scarcity in such a way that they cancel each other out and make the entire thing completely worthless. It would be impressive if it wasn't so sad. Maybe we should just go back to banging rocks together and try starting all this civilization stuff over again, because something clearly went very wrong somewhere.

The part about the cards/NFTs in the pack being worth only a few cents in total isn't exclusive to this. Every in-print tcg has this issue. There's usually only around 10% of a set that's actually worth selling. The vast majority of the cards are considered "bulk" and you'll see people selling them AT A LOSS on eBay. Meaning, they put them up for like $1 with free shipping, which means they're paying MORE just to get rid of them!

Large updates are most likely the entire collection sfx and card artwork - the QR just encodes ID to show them in app, no net traffic except authentication and registry. Hence super fast. Nice except for bloatware. As a DC fan I can see the graphic appeal but the whole NFT deal is terrible. Unless the trading system shown very briefly actually works, still doesn't address the physical-digital disconnect. Yes I have done single card MTG sales, most cards are not rare and worthless. In my day we bought entire trade boxes of packs to ensure the full series print run... I'm out now but I believe the only money is in super rare, meta and collectors unopened prior edition packs. This is none of those.

So, you buy the cards... to get the (random) cards... to scan the QR code... to get the card on the blockchain... to sell? Why not just resell the physical card? At least with Pokemon cards they gave you one QR card to play with them online, I assume, being able to physically and digitally collect them. This is just a pump and dump without the pump, and somehow even worse for the environment.

Card collection in the UK is for kids aged 7 to about 14. They have been going since the 1880s and each generation will go through at least one wave of enthusiasm. The important market in the UK is the school playground. In fact for kids, this is the only "safe" marketplace. Their intrinsic value is close to zero, but for a kid, collecting a complete set is really quite exciting. The true value of these cards was set by the pool of available pocket money. For older than 14 - grow up and if you have to collect physicals, then collect those which have a real physical market value. On Ebay these are stamps and coins, vintage trading cards and teddy bears - again no intrinsic value, just social extrinsic value based on knowledge of true rarity and quality and condition. To relate these to NFTs requires, I think, each card to have a known rarity value - but if all cards are unique, then they are not rare. Some physicals do have nostalgic and sentimental value and have therefore real extrinsic value on ebay, auction houses and similar trading platforms. I do hope these people have gotten permission to use the character names and artwork

Potentially stupid question: is every card unique? That’s one of the main selling points, right? But when you scanned them it kept saying “New Card!” And there’s rares and stuff… so are each card literally just separate NFTs with the same pictures???? The whole shitty randomly generated images thing was the one potentially interesting thing about NFT’s and they got rid of them for this???? Nft bros are truly incredible.
@fn18pack
@fn18pack Жыл бұрын
There is a set just like pokemon, Topps, panini, etc. Instead of a specific insert being numbered, every card is individually numbered. When scanned they give points based on the number. There are leaderboards that give rewards such as signed DC movie prints, uncut sheets, original DC art cards specific to hro, and more. Some of these cards sell for up 2k and there are lots of collectors. I personally sold one for $1,700 and have sold digital only cards for more than that. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about

Could be, and depending on the collector some of them are. But when you scan the cards they are worth points. There's a digital leaderboard and snapshots that are taken for rewards. The rewards so far have been signed DC movie prints, uncut sheets, original DC art cards exclusive to HRO. And it's a new company that listens to a lot of the collectors in the community and has so far been pretty decent at adjusting its business model to incorporate things that collectors want to see with the project. I have pleased with the direction of the company and my collection value so far.

No one wanted "Jyhad" when it was out in 1998. At my local EB games, they were severely discounted, to 7.99 per starter and per booster BOX. Yep.. the price was per BOX. They had around 20 boxes, NO ONE wanted them.. so I bought them out. That started my V:TES collection for the next five or so years before I stopped buying and completing the series because I found rarely anyone to play with. Have around 40k of the bastards, complete sets up through whatever set they had released.. I think Gehenna at that point.. the re-release of the second edition had just been minted (Due to so much of 'jyhad' being errata or at least reworded and re balanced the original cards were becoming difficult to play with) and after trying to get that set completed.. I stopped and then said 'hell with it' and never bought another CCG again.

NFTs don't mean random animal pfp lol. It's a technology that allows for true ownership of a collectible and is verifiable on the blockchain. Each card has a unique mint number at the bottom left. Commons have a high mint between 1 - 110,000 while the rarer cards like mythics mint from 1 - 1,000. The lower the mint the more valuable/more points it adds to the leaderboard.

I've considered buying a few hundred dollars worth of these to stock for the future since I run a collectibles shop with two partners (no, we don't sell these at present). I wouldn't be buying these for the stupid NFT app, but because they are officially licensed DC products that are selling poorly and are likely going to be pulled from circulation as a result - eventually, the physical cards may hold some value for collectors, but the entire NTF integration is mind-bogglingly stupid. Then again, I'm not their target audience, just someone who realizes that sometimes something stupid may eventually command a premium (like the extremely rare stuff I have from the painfully bad Batman & Robin movie - somewhere, someone will want it).
