How is this the truth? So much of his criticism is subjective. He harps on the NAME of the company and one of the watches names too, he also harps on the TRENDINESS. None of those things makes a brand objectively suck. It's not the "truth" and honestly it just comes off as elitist. Most people don't give a shit about watches. They just want something that, in their opinion, looks good and works. I don't see the issue with that. Not saying there's nothing to criticize, they're lower quality and overpriced but 90% of this video isn't focused on that. There's very little "exposing" them here, it's an opinion piece. Also, I just went and looked at their site. Explain how does it look like a press kit? It looks like every other clothing store I've been on. IMO this dude is really reaching for criticism and just feeding a circle jerk among watch enthusiasts. Don't let your community be like this, it's just going to push people who want to get into watches away.

Yuri Tereshyn I agree that it’s nice of these guys to support KZbinrs, no argument there. It’s likely a personal thing but generally I only feel good about myself if I’m pushing a product that’s legitimately decent. Maybe my tune would change if I was trying to make a living on KZbin and grasping at all avenues of income here, but since that is definitely not the case, my thought process is different. Gratuitous marketing of the same product across every channel can get a little annoying so I just skip through for now. That aside, thanks for the 2019 RDX review. Picked up the advanced model for my wife’s grad present and it’s fantastic. 👌

Hello, “5 reasons i hate mvmt watches =/= exposing mvmt”. I don’t really care if you like their style or not (I came from recommended). However, investigating their quality is worthwhile, whished you’d gone deeper into that. Perhaps Opening one up to check quality, and providing alternatives further than just quick namedrops. Also all the complex terminology ( loom, complication and even movement) is not explained, seemingly making this a video geared towards watch (timepiece) fanatics, who are already quite unlikely to disagree with you. So I feel like this video has a bit of an identity crisis, and an unclear audience. Cheers mate, cool omega and yeah clear frames are pretty cool

This should be the highest rated comment. I agree with you wholeheartedly. As a layperson in the watch game I’d love for a watch geek destroy a pretentious brand, but why not educate us too, you know? And help us actually find a better use for our money rather than preaching on and on to the watch geeks choir about a company that obviously prioritizes trend over functionality.

@@maulanna Watches, like jewelry, are a very subjective and personal thing. Buy and wear whatever you like personally. I've seen people wear $200.00 plastic Gucci brand sunglasses that are the exact thing as mass-produced plastic sunglasses that cost $3.00 without the Gucci label. It's their choice though, and I guess they were happy with it. There are hundreds of good watch brands out there, all you have to do is pick one that doesn't prioritize trend over functionality. MVMT would not even exist without having artistic pictures of young and hot bodies wearing them. Just find a watch brand that doesn't just thrive because of "selfies", and see if they make a watch that you'd want to wear every day and can afford. Eezy peezy pumpkin squeezy :^)

@AutomotiveRomance6 жыл бұрын
What I think the absolute worst about MVMT is, is that they’re not even original designs. Most of their watches are the generic Chinese watches you can put your logo on and have mass produced. For example, if you go on something like Aliexpress you can find that exact ‘chronograph’ without their logo on it for around $5. And I feel that is just not acceptable, especially at the price point they’re selling these at. For the same money you can get fantastic original designs from an actual watchmaking brand, with a proper movement that will last you forever if you take care of them.
@JHA8546 жыл бұрын
AutomotiveRomance it’s a pretty common practice to import products from China and sell them in western markets at much higher prices. Let’s say they spend $5 on each watch, maybe another $5 on fancy packaging. Then a majority of the cost goes into marketing. They spend a ton on marketing, they’re like Beats of the watch world. You’re paying the $150 because they spent so much money to sell that watch to you. But Amazon is full of Chinese products that you could get for a fraction of the price if you bought direct. People don’t realize or don’t care, so they pay. I bet most people buying a MVMT watch assume that it’s designed and manufactured by this brand that seemed to come out of nowhere.
@AutomotiveRomance6 жыл бұрын
J : Sure, I know how it works and I totally agree with you. Their marketing strategy just rubs me the wrong way, though I must admit they’re great at marketing. The sheer volume of watches they move is a testament to that. But if I have to see one more automotive youtuber peddling these inferior wastes of money as ‘affordable luxury’, I think I’m gonna be sick.

T3 is swiftly sounding like a hater. MVMNT, Invicta, Movado, he loves to shit on all these brands.I know he means well, but it seems to be trendy for some watch enthusiasts to put down watches that aren't in their narrow definition of what is good, and look down on people who choose to wear them. I actually share a similar taste with T3, more particularly, his love of Seiko. I own a PADI Turtle, an Alpinist, and a Cocktail time and his opinions on 2 of those watches are spot on. However, I think he's getting carried away with all the negativity lately. Like it or not, cheaper brands are a gateway to the hobby for many. And since we all love this hobby, let's share it and help it grow. Let's not put down and alienate the newcomers. Let's be positive and talk about why Seiko and other more established brands are better. Wear what you like. At the end of the day, it's a watch and it's all subjective. We all have different reasons for liking them.

Leon Pearce No... no it’s not. Apply that logic to anything else. So clothes, for example. Are cheap clothes and insult to those who have been making high quality clothes for centuries? No, it’s a cheaper alternative for people who either aren’t bothered about the quality, or simply can’t afford expensive clothes. Is someone on minimum wage supposed to go an buy a Rolex, or an Omega? Obviously not. People I’ve to live by their means, and trying to live beyond your means usually ends badly. Just think about it from the consumers perspective, and not a watch collector/fanatic’s perspective.
@JankyChris6 жыл бұрын
@@SteBradburyDesign I don't think most watch enthusiasts would hate on MVMT & co. as much as they do now if they'd sell their watches for say 30-50$ instead of 130-150$. I have nothing against cheap minimalist quartz watches and I understand that a mechanical watch is not the right thing for everyone. What bugs me is that they pretend to be a high quality, luxury manufacturer while producing their watches for minimal cost. It's that artifical sense of prestige that lets them sell these watches for a lot more than they are worth. This is not limited to watches.. You see more and more companies that sell cheap products (nothing wrong with that) for a really high price (thats whats wrong) because they pretend like their products are of great quality
@SteBradburyDesign6 жыл бұрын
JankyChris Yeah I totally understand it from that perspective too, and I agree, they do present themselves as a high-end product, which I do think they should be allowed to do, however, they should be a bit more transparent imo. I perfect example is Supreme. They literally sold a brick with the Supreme logo and they sold out instantly... I guess a lot of people like to buy things simply for the name. But yeah, I agree with your statement, they do present themselves as something they’re not which I guess is a bit dishonest, but it also seems to be normal practice in sales, not that it makes it right. Thanks for thinking about it rather than just bashing me for defending MVMT in some regards, not enough thinkers on here haha

I just like a reliable quick way to keep time, and I tend to abuse them. I was planning on eventually getting a higher end watch solely so I could have something fancy for special occasions. And honestly I was probably going to get a MVMT just because of all the adds I've seen saying how nice they are. I thought there was no way they could be bad watches with all the hype they get. But I would rather pay for quality than pay for a brand. Thanks for setting me straight.

There's nothing wrong with buying a cheap watch if you just want something that tells you a good approximation of the time, particularly if you know that you abuse watches and/or want it as a fashion accessory. I have a $3 watch in my collection just for looks, and a couple of cheap Timex quartz watches I can wear as a daily beater when I don't want to have a few hundred dollars of watch on my wrist. (My collection isn't *super* expensive yet, but there are some watches that are a bit nicer than the rest.) Nice watches are *nice*. It's pleasant to have something of real quality on your wrist, and some of my nicer watches (and even one or two of the cheap ones) have sapphire glass, which is actually made of sapphire (aka "transparent aluminum") and can only be scratched by a sapphire or a diamond, so I can wear them and not fear the glass getting scratched up.

More expensive movements have much better time accuracy and durability, some of them are hand assembled by experienced workers in Switzerland, etc. Obviously that means the components are more expensive and labour is much more expensive.
@antonhelsgaun6 жыл бұрын
theres no real reason to make them in switzerland though. Do you have some accuracy tests on the movement watches?

Anton Helsgaun, it’s pretty damn hard to recreate a perfect 60 seconds 60 minutes 24 hours consistently in a mechanical mechanism.

Feraldo Rozanandy China will never get to the standards of Swiss Mechanical Watches. Hell, cheap mechanical movements aren’t even made in China, they’re made in Japan by Seiko called Five Jewels. China only really make cheap quartz watches and the Japanese make cheap mechanical watches. Swiss movements will always rule the watch world. No need to shit on a hobby that you don’t understand completely, that’s tunnel vision at its finest. Why don’t you buy cheap $30 Chinese made Guitars that are clones of expensive Guitars? chinese will 3D scan it and clone it within minutes and fwala... no sweat on the “hand engraved” “hand polished” method, they just cnc everything and assemble it like a puzzle... oh btw to replicate the material is almost no problem for them they just pour a chemical liquid to the original and they knew the content... except for the carbon ceramic, or carbon fiber mold it takes really high tech most chinese companies don’t have

MVMT is the brand that got me to start wearing watches. Although I admit I do not know much about the watch, I felt that the styles that they provide looks clean and easily to suit your outfits. So I guess, a watch is more of a fashion-able accessory than a timeless piece for me

Fair enough on the concerns. I got mine, the chronograph you were referencing, for free - we visited their office for a meeting. I agree that they're cheaply-made watches, but I have gotten a TON of compliments on it, way more than any other watch I've worn. I'd agree with your assessment that they are basically fashion accessories, but that's not always necessarily a bad thing.

Many people get into watches by starting to purchase and collect fashion watches like MVMT. Each to there own. I think hate is a really strong word for a watch brand. I don’t like them because they are not very functional and look really cheaply made. They are a rip off, but so are lots of fashion items.

As an avid lover of horology, I’m glad to see this video has been made. I feel bad for those who buy watches like MVMT, Michael Kors, Fossil, etc with the mindset that they bought a high quality product. Given the amount of comments from people who aren’t caught up or, in other words just not horology people, no offense to anybody, it’s nice to see some people out there trying to educate the masses of people who would otherwise waste their money on cheap chinese crap simply due to a lack of understanding of what they’re spending their money on, or the lack of knowledge of the incredible, truly significant and quality alternatives available to them. Keep it up brother! Love the Seamaster as well! Been looking at a 1964 Seamaster 30 in YG recently!
