I'm planning to buy Raynox but I already have an extension tubes. On the looks of it. Might continue using extension tubes for now. Since I rarely do Macro shots. :) Thanks a lot for the review. :)

Does one give a shallower depth of field than the other? Still can't decide between tubes and raynox. Would like as large a depth of field as possibly for insect shoots

Hi Steward, can I ask you? Will Raynox dsr-250 be helpful and suitable if the attached lense is telephoto zoom tamron 18-300mm for sony apsc? the magnification ratio of the lense is 1:2 in 18mm and 1:4 in 300mm. I hope i can increase the magnification ratio at least 1:1 with raynox so I can do deeper macro.

Center sharpness test only. The dedicated macro should give you much better flat field sharpness edge to edge. Try again and frame the area of focus closer to the edges.

I have a dedicated Macro lens in the Sony 90mm f2.8, however I prefer to use the Laowa 65mm Manual only lens - The results are just as good - and it was £500 cheaper to buy. The Sony does have AF of course!

Extension tubes are great and give awesome results with my 40mm pancake BUT on still subjects ONLY. Don't even try shooting moving insects as you have to be dediculously close to the subject which will fly away anyway. Any thoughts or suggestions here?
@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
That's one of the reasons I went for a dedicated macro lens - working distance. For me its the most important feature of any lens when doing macro photography. When it comes to extension tubes and loss of working distance I'm afraid it all comes down to practice. Sometimes a drop of sugar water/honey will help to keep the insects attention while you photography them, I used that a lot with ants.
@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
I would say it's closer to extension tubes than a macro lens.

When using macro tubes we generally lose some sharpness in the image right ? Slight softness ? But my question is, that is a 18mp image. So when shooting 4K VIDEO, its technically just 8mp, so will the image softness be less noticeable ? Bec its the same softness, but spread over only a 8mp video, does this hide the softness a little better, giving better results that you would get when doing macro tube PHOTOGRAPHY.
@chrisjohn24153 жыл бұрын
I wish my Raynox was that sharp. My one is hazy and soft, and lacks contrast for some reason.

@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
Annoying as in you don't like the outtakes or just too loud?
@Mikey19625 жыл бұрын
@@StewartWoodArt Hi Stewart, the outtakes are great and I do enjoy them its just the sound of the beep over and over again, after a short time one gets to expect it and since its quite loud and offers nothing more than an annoying sound I skip the outtakes because one shouldn't have to play with the volume control to watch part of a video. Thanks for responding. I dont mean to sound like a dick but that beeping sound does get old fast and in my opinion only takes away from the fine content your putting out.
@StewartWoodArt5 жыл бұрын
I'll adjust the volume level on my next video and see how that goes.
