U r a brave soul 😎 When we paint loose, we get the benefit of marks happening, laying down as they do. A dry brush break up or a bloom or a wash meeting another color in a way that creates a fascinating area for the viewer. Attempting to copy those?? Now THAT is a different story. Some of my favorite marks (brush strokes, dabs, value shifts within a wash where a darker value is dragged up into the light, etc, etc) r moments I myself would never b able to intentionally repeat. U r a wonderful watercolor artist. U do great copies, Im just hoping that ur viewers understand how challenging this is, in our medium. Another great video turning us on to another artist rocking the watercolor. Thank u! Stay well 🎨

So true!! I really feel that whenever I paint a study based on an existing watercolor 😂 It's close to impossible to recreate a loose painting. But that's the great fun when painting from a photo, and injecting your own vision to it! 😁 Thank you for the kind words 🙏😊

I think he achieves the dry brush effect in the wet in wet passages by using acrylic white. I know I thought for years that Edward Seago was using dry brush all over the place but on detailed inspection it looked to me like he too was using acrylic white .I think some of the white textures in Manel’s buildings also have touches of acrylic as he has swatches of lovely loose siennas and ochre’s and then a lovely white abstract shape which you just couldn’t paint around. These are my observations anyway. Thank you always for making videos of my favourite watercolour painters. Including yourself of course. Regards Brian MARSHALL

Oops, hit the wrong button and sent before I was finished! I do feel that art can be too minimalistic, because, of course, I prefer a bit more details, so this artist wasn't my cup of tea. But I love seeing the different masters that you feature, because I learn something from all of them by your commentary. Thursdays are great for the masters, and the length of this video was perfect (but I could easily watch you paint for an hour or more) 😋

I can see what you like Manel’s work, The juxtaposition and balancing of lights and shadows that Manel plays with makes the series attractive to the eye. He gives you enough information that you (the viewer) have to contribute to fill in the blanks. Ugh, I hope that doesn’t sound to academic. As for you’re paint, I like your interpretation if you do a second one that is lighter tones, it could work like a Monet cathedral series.

Hello Liron, I love your videos and the way you explan it. The watercolour 36:29 (like a fortress wall) is Tossa de Mar in Catalonia. I live very close. A very nice place. I'm starting in watercolour and some times i feel overwhelmed for the very talented people you show. On my entire live a can't afford this.

I really enjoyed this entire demonstration. I love the way you teach how so much can be said with just a few strokes. I am inspired to simplify my technique and try to execute a painting with less detail. I am hooked on your teachings. Great job! Thank you!

Fascinating review, I particularly liked the way his figures were so transparent, almost ghostly, like they aren't the main subject. Amazing how watercolor can do that. Doing a study of someone else's work must be very challenging (!), but the end result still had your style! Thanks for this 😀

Hey LY. I've been enjoying the master's series lately and this was right up my loose alley. Oops. What I mean to say is I've been trying to be more loose. I especially enjoy your take on it. I can't imagine that those nearly abstract ones take a long time to paint. I suppose his planning and his skills allow him to execute them quickly. You agree? Thanks for this.

I love the Simplicity of the painting. I think you captured it really well as well. I think I will do a study on your paintings, especially the rules scene. You gave me an idea to "copy " somebody Elsa's painting for study purposes and trying to figure it out. I think this is really helpful in the process of becoming a better artist. I so enjoy your demos. Yes please come out Thursday's with a master painting critique. I like the idea as well. Finished your drawing course and again, I loved it.

Wow! This is my favorite masters episode! His transparency in them is so magical,I haven’t seen anything like that before, gonna try it soon :D .. I don’t know why but I have a feeling that these paintings are actually large sized and he used a giant half a metre brush to paint them :D

Haha I wouldn’t be surprised about the paintings being large, and him using a huge brush 😂 And I agree - I love their lightness and transparency. Definitely something to try to do (I made mine much darker and contrasted than his haha).

If you go to ManelPlana.com there are some videos. One of them he paints some trees in a park. The size of his paper is I think full imperial. I love his impressionistic ones but you will see on the website the paintings in the museums are quite detailed, but huge ! I don’t know whether you are familiar with Her Herculese Brabazon Brabazon. He was a man of wealth and leisure and was very much into Turner. His watercolours are delightful and he was an amateur and his first exhibition didn’t happen until he was 72 as he didn’t think his paintings were good enough !! Hailed a genius thereafter. You will love his paintings. Thank you for posting some great videos.

Hay that turned out pretty good, for a copy. thats what I do alot, try to copy a style. but askyourself while painting, why did the artist choose the colors he did? could i improve on it? would anybody by my painting, or should i jump up and down on it and through it away! I learned trough practice that the better your paper, paints and brushes are, the better the results! and if you can do that from your memory, without looking at the original, you belong with the watercolor artist "GODS"
