Love your videos I have a question what size tank lift do you recommend for a 2004 883 can you still do a wire tuck with a 1 inch or 1 1/2? Thank you
@DKCustomProducts3 ай бұрын
We always suggest that you check for clearance before you order a tank lift. Sportsters usually have the most room for a Tank Lift, but to be safe check for clearance before ordering. Checking for clearance not only allows you to insure fitment, it also allows you to see which size will look best with your bike. We are NOT responsible for any damage done to your bike because of the kit. It is easy to check for clearance: 1. With bike on kickstand, take the bolt out of the front of your tank. 2. Loosen (do not remove) the bolt at the rear of your tank. 3. Turn your handlebars all the way to the left and raise the tank up your desired lift height to check for clearance issues. 4. Turn your handlebars all the way to the right and raise the tank up your desired lift height to check for clearance issues. Yes, a 1 - 1.5" should give you enough room for the wire tuck. One more question... I watched a video on tank lifts. One guy had to bend the seat tab to properly reinstall the seat. I did not plan on lifting the rear of the tank. Your thoughts? Thanks again :-)
@DKCustomProducts Жыл бұрын
The tab does not need to be bent with the stock seat. Some aftermarket seats, with a metal seat pan, do require a little manipulation when using the Deluxe Option (rear lift). Since you are not planning on using a Deluxe option, even if you have an aftermarket seat, it is not an issue. 👍

Generally 2004+ Sportsters do not benefit from the Deluxe Option unless it is imperative to move the tank back for clearance issues. You should check for clearance for the Front Tank Lift and Deluxe Option before purchasing. Be careful when lifting your tank, you do not want to hit it against something (forks, handlebars, trees, blinkers, etc.) when checking for clearance. Dude as much as this tank lift cost y’all can’t throw in stickers with it?!? That’s my only complaint 😂, other than no stickers I love the way it made my roadster 1200 look with the 1” lift. I have big Al’s 6” pull back risers with odi moto bars an original had a cheap 2” tank lift but the top of my risers would hit my tank when my bars were turned all way to one side so the 1” lowered it enough to clear an still looks great plus your product is way better than those cheap Chinese tab style brackets!!

Party was abruptly stopped, as my tank will not lift on the front. Not even a cm. It will just not budge. Is there anything else other than the front and rear bolts holding the tank down to the frame? Why wouldn’t it lift after removing the front bolt and loosening the rear bolt? I am working on a 2007 Softail Custom Thanks.
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
Copy and pasted from the instructions: "On Softails, there is a rubber gasket on the front of the tank connecting the tank and the frame. This can be disconnected, cut where it wraps around the frame and moved up, or removed completely" Full instructions linked here- www.dkcustomproducts.com/media/wysiwyg/tanklift/Billet_Tank_Lift_instructions_patented.pdf You can see the rubber gasket in this VIDEO, linked below, starting around the 1:38 mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaDOfJeFmamAbKc

@@DKCustomProducts thank you. Yes, I had disconnected the bottom snap of that gasket, and cut the zip tie to the wire that ran along the front of it, but the tank still wouldn’t lift. When I get home tonight I am going to just start cutting the rubber gasket out, a little a time, since I am starting to believe (after looking at diagrams and seeing that there is nothing else attached to the tank) that the tank is just tight around that gasket and the frame. I’ll post back once I get it figured out. Thank you again. -Big Al

Is it normal on a 48 to have a big gap on each side of the ears to the frame? For example I have about a 1/4 inch gap on each side
@DKCustomProducts2 жыл бұрын
Yes, as mentioned in the video at the 3:45 mark, HD tolerances are not that great. The tank ears are made to flex, and you can also use the included washers to shim if needed, or desired. 95% of the time, if there is any gap, it is usually 1/4" or less and can just be tightened down and the tank ears will do what they are designed to do...flex to accommodate that space.

2" is the most we have seen w/ a Deluxe Option that allow for full use of all 6 gallons. If you lifted it more than 1/2" it would be tilted forward, not level, plus it would push the nose of the seat up to much.
