Definitely deserves a subscribe. As I have just done. This guy has masterful knowledge of the bmw f650gs I have a 2012 bmw g650gs but the engines share so much similarities. Enjoyed watching. Thanks again. 🇮🇪

Hello, great video! İm trying to put the cams back in place after doing a shim change however the cam chain was extremely tight to begin with and now i cant put it back in place (ive got 4 zipties on it) im going to remove the zipties and realign the cams buny question is this: does the chain have to be tight on the front side of the engine when aligning the cam sprockets? And how much slack should there be in between the sprockets (there was 0 slack when i took it apart) thank you!
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
have you taken the cam chain tensioner out? if you take it out you should have enough slack

Very nice to watvh you video👍 Just a silly question and i dont know if it is the same with the gs. But on my carb f650 from 99 there is a tiny horizontal hole in the head right next to the right spark plug. As i saw on some Fotos in the Internet it is normal and Stock, so the previous owner didnt do anything weird😂 But im very interested in the reason for the hole. Can you explain it to me or is it different with the head from the GS?
@motorcyclefixer5 ай бұрын
The reason for it is to make sure any water that gets into the spark plug hole can drain away Thanks for watching

I have a issue with the piston, mine don't have a sign or something that make me know the front or the back of it. How do you know the right direction of the piston?
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
It should always have an arrow on it when it's new. you can however look at the cut-outs for the valves. bigger cut-out in the piston goes with the bigger valves. the intake valves are normally the biggest so the bigger cut-outs go to the back
@augustopadilla5517 Жыл бұрын
@motorcyclefixer This piston doesn't have valve marks, only have the size of the piston (B and 99,98)

Do you have a video explaining how to set the crank to TDC?
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
Yes I cover it in one of the videos I believe it's the bottom end rebuild video. Basically you need to turn the crank until its at top dead centre. Use a long ball ended Allen key in the spark plug hole then there is a small bolt on the side of the bottom casing that you remove and put a pointed grub screw in the hole which locks the crank at top dead centre

How do you know if it’s in compression TDC or exhaust TDC or it doesn’t matter?
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
@@mrsvetly it depends what you're doing but if the valves are closed it's the compression stroke If you're setting the timing and you have the cam chain off then it doesn't matter because you'll set the valves closed The spark fires on both strokes
@mrsvetly Жыл бұрын
@@motorcyclefixer i am asking because I was trying to check the valves and forgot to put the bike in TDC and the chain tensioner so when I turned the engine the chain skipped and the cams rotated so I had no idea where was I. But I put a screw driver through the spark plug hole on cyl 1 to try and find TDC and stopped when it stopped moving up, so I thought I was in TDC. But when I started the engine after reassembly it was making all those clapping noises and I shut it off immediately. You think I bent any valves/pistons? Any idea why my plan didn’t work?
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
@@mrsvetly I think the best thing to do is to get your hands on a manual and work through it. It's hard to diagnose it without looking at it tbh if you've done it correctly and there's still a mouse though then it'll be something else Maybe a big end bearing or something else Have you checked the valve clearances

I have a 2013 BMW G650GS which I think is similar but made in China rather than Germany. Love the fuel economy and ability to carry a decent load of luggage - but the vibrations at 4k RPM are absolutely horrible. Is that normal or could I have an output shaft or counterbalance issue?
@motorcyclefixer Жыл бұрын
Hi I don't have any experience with that model but that amount of vibration isn't normal If it's at a standstill then it could be an internal engine bearing

Informative video chap, how many miles on the bmw? was it your own bike?
@motorcyclefixer2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure on the miles sorry The guy I bought it off swapped it out as the output shaft was ruined
