A friend of mine owns a business that utilizes 6-8 pickup trucks any given year. He started out years ago with Silverados, switched to F150s ten years ago. He stated that with both there always seemed to be one in the shop for unscheduled repairs. For the last 4 years he has owned nothing but Tundras and said it was the best business decision he has made in a long time. His 2 2012s have over 150,000 miles each and all he had done to them was scheduled maintenance, brakes and tires. His other 4 newer Tundras are proving to be just as reliable. They have all shared in hauling around 10,000 lb. backhoes/front loaders. He has said he will never go back to Chevy or Ford. His testimony is why I drive a Tundra. 80,000 miles on my pre-owned 2010 and she rides and drives like a new one. Love it!

The hardest thing about running Toyotas for work is their resale value. Its hard to buy them even used when I can pick up a newer basic f150 work body with low miles around 12-15k and they're everywhere. I've always had Toyotas for my family vehicles and f250's for work.

My uncle who was head of an army testing site said special forces wanted an more incognito transport over in the middle east. He said Dodge, ford and Toyota competed in a 30,000 mile test in harsh conditions. He said the Toyota won hands down. A bit dis hearting for me a bit as I like domestics lol but I respect his opinion or fact I guess. I just think Toyota's are ugly as sin haha. The chevy engines and transmissions are not bad though

@@elkillerx that is a diesel compared to a gas, not even a fair comparison. I have a 2018 silverado and I thought it rode great but now after 10k miles I am sick of the v4/v8 shifting. It is not smooth and sometimes it will either not shift from v4 or downshift from v8. I only bought it because I got 13k off on it and my local toyota dealer wouldnt give me near what my 15 sierra was worth (they were 5k less than what I got). For the last 3 months I have been waiting for a toyota crew max to come on the lot used for the price I want and finally think I found one so we will see how it goes.

I own a 2008 Toyota Tundra limited crew max truck that has 248k miles on it. It has the original motor, transmission, and rear end and it doesn’t leak a drop of oil. I live in Las Vegas which is the most brutal climate for any vehicle in the summer. I’ve owned Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks before I owned a Tundra. Guys it’s not even close when it comes to quality and reliability. Any Ford, Chevy, and Dodge is ready for the junkyard by 150k miles.

My dad is a car dealer and I've driven every single truck out there at multiple auctions and dealerships for the past 4 years. This year I tried a Tundra(after watching the million mile Tundra video)for the first time just to see if it was any good. I ended up buying it the next day... the build quality is far better than any other truck out there in terms of typical daily driving. Toyota for the moment is really on point right now for there trucks.

+Ryan Burton Don't care about gas mileage? Really? I own both a '69 and '97 Chevy, both with 350 engines. The '69 with a carbureted engine, and only a 3 speed automatic and stock 4.11 gears gets 10mpg. The '97 gets 16mpg yet has more horsepower, a greater tow capacity and A/C. On a recent trip, I drove nearly 2000 miles. Say gas costs $2.50/gallon. At 10mpg, that trip would have cost $500 instead it cost $312, a $188 savings in a single trip. The latest trucks with 8 speed trannys and LS series motors can approach 20mpg, which could have saved me yet another $62. Just extrapolate that over, say, 100,000 miles of driving while also considering that gas prices will not stay this cheap and could rise sharply at any time.
@MontyPiper8 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I use my truck, with it's bad gas mileage, to tow my boat, which gets worse gas mileage.. if I was concerned about gas mileage I wouldn't own either one.

Good review. One thing you failed to mention is that the Silverado LTZ Z71 can be had with a more powerful 6.2L V8 that still yields better fuel economy than the Tundra's 5.7L V8. Also of note the Silverado has the Z71 package available on the lower priced LT trim which brings the price down to $45K before incentives (crew cab version).

I've owned both Ford and Chevy pickups. One of my Chevy's was a Duramax that I sorely miss. I liked both makes until I drove a Tundra. Despite both GM and Ford having a fully boxed frame, and the Ford being all-aluminum bodied, they tend to ride skittishly over bumps. They're less isolated and they don't turn in as well as the Tundra. My Tundra rides pretty good and handles very well. The Tundra's steering is quick and accurate. The Chevy has a powerful 6.2L option but it's expensive. If I were to get the Ford, It'd be with the ecoboost. The Ford F-150's interior is well laid out and their F-250 is about to debut with an aluminum body. I think all the modern pickups today are pretty darn amazing.There really isn't a bad truck out there. I just prefer my Tundra - for now!

I've got an 08 Tundra w/66k on it. I treat it how I treated all my other vehicles.....regular maintenance, tow/haul frequently, the occasional heavy foot, and I'm averaging 14-15mpg. I didnt buy it for mpg though. I've owned more than a handful of pickups in my 20yrs of driving and I have to admit...NONE have felt as tight and well made as the Tundra. That includes 2 Silverado's, 3 F150's, a Ram, and a few midsize mistakes. I cant really think of anything I dislike about it honestly...other than the mileage. On a trip to NC from Upstate NY I averaged 19mpg which was nice....but rare. As for the "move to Japan" comments.....honestly guy? Is ANYTHING in your house TRULY made in America? I highly doubt it. I hope you realize Chevy/GMC are the LEAST AMERICAN MADE TRUCKS on the market.....F-150 comes in first with Tundra a close 2nd.....do some research before you run your mouth.

Test drove 24 trucks and SUVs in 2015. Hated the Tundra front end, just felt like it would hit a bump and toss a wheel one day. Bought a 2015 Silverado 1500 5.3 liter assembled in Mexico. Guess what. 66,000 miles and zero issues with an 18 Mpg combined history. Moderate use for towing, hauling tree debris, moving furniture, and a daily 105 mile commute. If I could keep the paint flawless, I would be ecstatic, but alas, tree limb scratches, rock haulers and door collisions with gas station architectural oddities happen. As it stands, I'm very happy and may move up to a heavier towing class so I can get the big toy hauler I want. As the market looks today, that will likely still be a Chevrolet product as a best bang for the buck option.

Both have their own CEO's, budgets etc. Most of the profits from American sales stay in America. I work for an American Helicopter company and all of our commercial helicopters are made in Canada. They are two separate companies under the same brand and ownership.

But the amount of money that is created here in the states and that stays here in the states as a result of all the workers at Toyota NNA who get paid and spend their money at local businesses, the same at their several stateside suppliers, the tax base and job bases created make the end profit claimed to be mailed to Japan a pittance in the big picture. It's and old resentment and argument that is long dead with globalization that "they send their profits home blah blah blah"

You did a great review on these trucks, no bashing on one another just straight up facts on how each one has their own positives. You didn't make one truck out to be better than the other which is hard to find in reviews now days. This review was refreshing to see because their was no bias to either truck. This is my first time seeing a video from this channel and y'all can bet ill be watching your videos from now on! Of course this being youtube I gotta give some criticism, just offer some more facts on the trucks like Toyota which has dual variable valve timing and 32 valves while Chevy its worth mentioning how it has electronic power steering which is why the steering felt so light. But thats alright if its not mentioned because you can't give everyone what they want, but you give them what they need and again thats an unbiased truck review. I watch TFL Truck and they knock on the Tundra all the time just because the 5.7 has been out since 2007 even though its still one more powerful truck engines you can buy and they say its old for some unknown reason. Keep up the great work TestdrivenTV and kudos to the reviewer in this video!!

I'm a big GMC/Chevy fan, i have a 2005 GMC sierra 2500 HD diesel that i love to death and has given me 4+ years of offroad work truck duty with the only negatives being a blown transfer case. I really really wanted to get the 2015+ GMC/Chevy 2500hd in diesel for my new truck, however at 65k for my SLT/LTZ diesel the price was just too high. I ended up with a 2016 tundra sr5 trd for around 42k before taxes. I kind of felt like i cheated myself from what i really wanted, but this Tundra has been pretty damn impressive. 25% of my driving is offroad, on similar dirt/gravel washboard roads, and the Tundra eats up these roads for dinner! Reminds me of my wifes 2012 4runner suspension wise, but with a much bigger punch from the engine. The Tundra is super reliable offroad, a confident ride for sure. Im averaging 15mpg from a mix of offroad, city and highway driving. Its a very smooth ride and even the base sr5 interior is very nice, with leather trim door panels, etc. So far i have to say that i am liking this Tundra, its a truck i dont feel bad about putting a beating on. If i had a 65k sierra, i would feel a little bad lol. This review makes me feel better about my choice, since so much of my driving is offroad, im glad i skipped the gmc/chevy. You can hear the loud rattling from this video. Maybe the 2500 will have a better suspension, but other videos of the Denali still show some stiffness and rattling. Also i agree about the 5.3 lacking power, as i rented a 2014 silverado 1500 for a week and it was the most underpowered POS truck ive driven. id rather go with a Ram than a 1500 chevy. Still, my heart still aches for a 2500 diesel with the allison transmission. Maybe il put 30-40k on this tundra and sell it for 30k next year. the residual values on the tundra kick ass, i see trucks like mine that are 2 years old and with 50k miles still selling for 30+, so im confident i am losing less money overall. My only complaints with the Tundra are that its screen is positioned too "flat" on the dash. It is often hard to see in glaring sunlight. I cant say that im the biggest fan of the oversized chrome grill, i think its a little too big and wish the headlights were just a tad bit bigger, but thats just a cosmetic look. Other stuff i love about the sr5 trd, it comes with a TON of hidden storage in the backseats and under the middle seat. The interior is very very nice, i almost feel like im driving a luxury car. It feels very solid like the reviewer said, the engine is very smooth and refined which makes sense because its the same one in the landcruiser and lexus lx570. Got about 4k miles on her and love it so far. We shall see in the next few years if the Tundra is enough to keep me from eventually trading it in for a diesel. I figure in 2 years i will either get another Tundra TRD with diesel, or go to a 2500 Ram or Sierra. I still kept my GMC diesel, so now i have two trucks!

pretty stupid when people make remarks like "the tundra is last in its class" when they barely made a full size pick-up in 2007 offering the 5.7. While all these other companies (big 3) have been making full size pick-ups for decades.

I just traded my 1794 Tundra for a 2016 High Country Silverado. After being a life-long Toyota lover, the inevitable finally happened. Toyota has gotten so big that they just don't care about quality like they used to. They really used to stand behind their products. After 2 years of owning the Tundra and dealing with plumes of oil smoke at start-up, massively annoying interior rattles, and abysmal gas mileage, I had just had enough. The truck costed too much money to have those issues. Toyota did not care about these issues, and only made half hearted attempts at addressing them. I took it to 3 different dealerships, and they were all the same. "We can't duplicate the problem." The Silverado is built better. The ride is better. The interior is more quiet and it gets MUCH better gas mileage. Granted I've only owned the chevy for 3 months, but I do not miss the Tundra at all. The Tundra did have a lot more grunt and power, but that's expected with a 4.30 rear end versus a 3.42. The Tundra, like most Toyota's is painfully out-of-date. They need significant updates to their drivetrain, and a total redesign in the looks dept. I will say that if you plan to tow heavy a lot, and you don't mind filling up that tiny tank and a pretty regular basis, then Tundra is probably a better choice. If you want a capable truck that is way more refined and more practical to own, the Silverado is a better choice.

Great review, but here's a few things to note for next time: (1) The Silverado can be had with proper off-road tires and 18'' rims. (2) You forgot to take the air dam off (if you're going to buy one throw that piece of garbage away). That's why you kept hearing that horrid noise off road. Your angle of approach was several inches, if not half a foot less. (3) Compare the Z71 with the 6.2 L (which amazingly has nearly the same mileage). You'll have very different results off and on road. Would love to see how the Tundra TRD compares with that specific setup.

I had a 1999 Silverado with almost 190k, it was a good truck solid engine,. However, it's the little things that kill you on repair, the overall integrity and fit and finish was always an issue. The frame cracked and I had it welded. The truck is still on the road. I now have 2006 3/4 Duramax for the hauling and towing power. I WISH Tundra can make in a 3/4 truck in gas or diesel. I know Toyota makes diesels in the Land Cruiser not the US version, they have the technology. Maybe my next Truck will be a Tundra if I get tired of GM quality control weakness, do love the Duramax power though.

I like this review. One thing that should have been considered is that the Silverado also offers the 6.2 liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 foot pounds of torque. That package would have blown the tundra way in the power department. The other findings would still likely be accurate.

Have owned both a modern Tundra and Silverado. My Tundra was a good truck. Excellant power, sounded fantastic with the TRD exhaust, lots of room inside, and had all the essential features most people would want imo. My Silverado looks much better, is a bit more comfortable, and a tad quieter, and shifts smoother. The ride is a bit rigid though, but on normal roads it is good. The Silverado is also better on the highway and is remarkably good on gas for a V8. Many reviewers (bought and paid for i'm sure) shit on the Tundra, I have owned one and can say it is a truly excellent truck and absolutely bulletproof. I do think the Silverados look better and I think they are excellent trucks, but I can't honestly say they are better.

I drive both and I found the Tundra has a smaller turning radius, better accelerations, and drives more stable on washboard roads and no roads and Highways. However, The fuel economy is 15mpg combined vs 16mpg for the Chevy. The Chevy also has a longer bed and a locking differential. Although I never got stuck in neither truck. The tundra at 50k mile got no problem. The chevy got a tire sensor issue at 40k miles. Both are ok vehicles.

I bought the 2016 Silverado. The one thing I liked on the 5.7 Tundra was the console shifter however I decided the Silverado rode better.

not really fair match up considering the tundra is a 2500 rated truck and the silverado is just a 1500

Yeah, definitely looked like you were getting tossed around a bit more in the Silverado on the rough stuff. However, bet the Silverado corners much better and feels more stable than the Tundra on paved roads with the stiffer suspension. Would like to see you take a Sierra Denali on those dirt roads. Really curious how the magnetic ride would handle those dirt roads.
@furmanparton67403 жыл бұрын
You’re going to pay dearly for that Denali package. That Chevy already costs more than that Tundra.

I drove all the truck when I decided to buy a new vehicle. I am a big Nissan fan buy it came in last. Money was no option so I was not influence by cost or loyalty. I purchased a Silverado because it drove the best in my opinion. I rated them in the following order1 Silverado2 Dodge Ram3 Toyota4 Ford F-1505 Nissan TitanI am very happy with my decision going on 4 years.I plan on buying a Jeep wrangler Rubicon in 2022 and its probably going to be around 60K

WOW... Completely the opposite of what i though of both trucks. I test drove both many times before deciding. After driving both on the same day, for me the choice was easy and bought the GMC Sierra Z71, basicaly the same as the silverado. The sierra felt smoother and more powerfull than the tundra, at least for me. the quality of the interior in my opinion is way better on the Sierra. I did not buy a truck thinking of MPG but is defenetly a plus.

Fabian if you did you would have got the ford. i hace both and the tundra is running about the same in city as the gmc.

Well I have a Sierra myself and today I went a test a tundra platinum...ride is stiff, interior is also plain, and on the outside let say, it is not the pretiest truck out there...went to see it because toyota has a reputation on durability, but it just felt like a step down from my Sierra....guess I’ll buy another Sierra after all

I'm 56 and have always driven Ford, Chevrolet, and Jeep CJ-7s. They all served me verrrrrrry well. But not any more. My "Ruby" has had wiring and computer problems since 36,000 miles and my Super Duty started falling apart at about 100K miles. I would have kept the Ford if I could have purchased an additional warranty. Ford sold me two additional warranties after the original 70K warranty expired; both for $2,500 and 30K miles. At 130K miles, I couldn't get another.....terrible. My next purchase will be a Ram or a Tundra....probably the Tundra.

Part of the reason the Chevy had a worse ride was it had 20" wheels with lower profile tires, which is just stupid for an off-road truck package. Bigger tires soak up bumps better.

@gjolinares238 жыл бұрын
+hankmiestro you are comparing apples to oranges. the 5.7 toyota is closer in actual size to the 6.2. the chevy 5.3 has always been pretty small.
@hankmiestro8 жыл бұрын
+Gerardo Linares I'm saying most new tundras come with the 5.7. just like most new sierras/silverado come with the 5.3 reason being the 6.2 is an expensive option not needed for most people. same with the yota S/C 5.7. Size of the motor is irrelevant it's the cost.The performance of the 6.2 would come at a premium to both the motors in this video and as tested like he referred the silverado was already more expensive .
@Epotheros8 жыл бұрын
The other engine option for the Tundra is the 4.6L. The s/c 5.7L is also an optional aftermarket package you can order at the dealership. It isn't really an "in house" from the factory option.

I’m buying a p/u in the next few weeks and I’m between 18 tundra and 18 Sierra, I’ve always been a gm fan but want to see what’s outside the box and really like the tundra’s electric rear window and rear seat space but just love the look of the sierra and I’m not so sure of the 8 speed trans idk how reliable it is and the fact that it turns off 4 cyl makes me nervous the more electronics in motors the more the probability of something going wrong, ultimately will come down on the final price sierras have huge discounts now that the new model is about to come out hopefully Toyota can compete with that $$$

25% better combined MPG is jawdropping. GM k2 is a generation ahead in engine tech. 20" wheels off road are terrible. I thought GM would not put 20s on the z71 but the must have changed that policy. I do think GM could decrease payload and soften the ride and would gain customers.

That's because as of this video's making we'd only tested the Super Cab F-150 in the rough. As mentioned in the F-150 Crew Cab video you referenced, the F-150 Super Cab in fact doesn't feel nearly as well put together in terms of body structure.
