Twiggy’s entrance into the world of modeling actually came by accident, and she was never quite sure what the public saw in her. The young star had aspired to be a model from a young age due to her fondness for fashion, though she wasn’t entirely comfortable in her own skin. At the age of 16, she went to a notable London hairdresser to get a pixie cut, and this hairdresser took a snapshot of her hairdo and hung up it on the wall of his salon. This snapshot ended up catching the attention of the editor of The Daily Express.
The Daily Express named Twiggy as “The Face of ‘66”, and her unique appearance went on to define the 1960s as a whole. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Twiggy’s entire modeling career was an accident - see her now.

Twiggy was SO famous in the 1960’s. - My friend decided we had to go on starvation diets bc we had to look good ! > I was dieting from age 11 - age 30. I was doing it for so long - I forgot to stop ! > The celebrity media - is quite TOXIC.

Great stuff as always. You know I just wish that they should show a lot more of her variety show on the BBC. She is a very talented woman and I hope they bring out some more of her clips of her show other than the ones on KZbin. She was light entertainment like Cilla Black and Lulu in the 70s.

She became the "Look" because of the males in the Fashion industry and the media that made her look appealing. They told the public that women looking like 12-year-old boys was ideal. NOT the other way around.

I consider Twiggy to be the beginning of eating disorders. I know eating disorders occurred way before she hit the scene but in the 60’s a lot of girls considered her body type to be perfection. It wasn’t her fault though IMO.

Before watching this video, all I knew about Twiggy was that she was a model and she got hit on then stood up by Elwood Blues in "The Blues Brothers." (To be fair, Elwood was caught up on a mission from God and Twiggy wasn't even sure if she was going to show up herself in the first place.)

She is fantastic. I tried to get the clothes she wore. If I couldn’t buy them, I made them. The dress with the belt on the hip, I STILL HAVE IT!!! It is orange and off white. The belt looks a little wore out, yet it still looks good. Oh, my gosh, as an old lady, it still fits!! Yet, a bit snug in the rear end. Thanks for the memories

I had the pleasure and honor to see Twiggy and Tommy Tune on the Broadway Show My One and Only. She could do it all, a d fabulously well! Act, sing & dance! I was just 12 when Twiggy came into the limelight! I adored her then and, still do now! I wanted to be a model just like her, but being a curvy Latina, I chose design instead. No regrets.

Because of her, men decided that all women should be stick thin and have a boyish body. To this day women are expected to be rail thin instead of having an hour glass figure. Women should not follow and fall into a model shape body, we should love our bodies. And be the best we can be.
