Okay, quick thing about this "cult" It was probably a local coven, the full moon sacrifice is basically a way to end something (the sacrifice being symbolic) and the red paint representing a relationship. Funny, when my siblings and I were children we used the huge tree in our front yard to HIDE from our abusive parents.
