Agreed that its a smart mans cirrus. If I had unlimited money, I reckon Id go for the Sling TSI, over the cirrus, due to its short field capability. In fact this is what I want, for that reason. Thanks for the awesome Sling videos, love your channel!

Mike, I have a Sling Tsi that I finished a few months ago, 782MB, and I have learned one very important thing that you might not be aware of. The VPX total amperage draw does not include the Pitot Heat. The reason is because it draws too many amps and Midwest Panel would have had to configure things differently because of this. I did not get the 3rd alternator but in retrospect I probably should have. The standard 30 amp alternator can easily be overtaxed under certain conditions, I've had it happen. There is no way to tell how many amps the Pitot Heat draws, and the amperage varies depending on the OAT and other variables.
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike 7 ай бұрын
That may be true on panels built by Midwest Panel Builders, but they didn’t build mine. It’s not true on my panel. The amperage shown on my VPX does in fact include pitot heat. I can turn on the pitot heat and watch the amperage rise. I can also turn on everything in my airplane and the sustained total draw never exceeds 20 A (aside from minor pulses when the strobes fire). Everyone’s panel is different, so YMMV.

The reason you have less fuel than what your fuel totalizer says, is because it’s not calibrated properly. I built my RV-10 and within a few flights, I had it down to about .5 gal discrepancy on a typical 2 to 3 hour trip. My floats are back up, they are not exact. No matter what NEVER plan to land with less than one hour of fuel remaining. I start my descent at 400 fpm for the reason you mentioned. Those are nice planes too.
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike Жыл бұрын
You can’t calibrate K-factor on G3X with a Rotax -iS engine. Unlike Lycomings, Continentals and carbureted Rotax engines, the Rotax iS series doesn't use a separate fuel flow meter. Instead, the FADEC reports the fuel flow directly to the G3X; no adjustment available. Apparently Dynon provides calibration / adjustment for Rotax iS engines, but Garmin currently doesn't. Hopefully Garmin will add this feature in the future. 🤞

Hey Mike, enjoying your channel. Did you enter in your checklists in ForeFlight from the POH or did you get them somewhere? I have a contract on a Sling Tsi.
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike 4 ай бұрын
I made my own custom checklists by modifying the ones from the POH. I have them in ForeFlight, but I also have them in G3X. That's more convenient, so I don't have to reach over to the right side.

Mike - have another question: from what I can gather, you fly wit the EFIS backup switched on the whole time. Its that SOP? I had thought that switch was for backup instrument power in the even of a gen failure? Or do does it need to be line (armed) for power to flow? I know the ECU backup (EMS backup) is different...
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's the standard procedure, per the Sling TSi POH. You want it on all the time so you have an uninterrupted backup. If you waited until the G3X lost power and then turned on the backup, it would take a couple of minutes for the G3X to boot back up, then more time for the AHRS to realign. You don't want that in flight, you want the backup power source to be instantly available.

Hi, I am actually setting up the elevator trim tab on my TSI. Since you should now have few hundreds flight hours on your TSI, could you confirm that the physical elevator trim tab deflection is 5 degrees up and 25 degrees down ?When you take off do you put the elevator trim tab to neutral or you trim the aircraft up a little bit ? I am asking this since on your PFD when you take off your trim tab indicator is in the middle showing not a neutral position if you followed the +5 / -25 degrees as per maintenance manual.
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike 7 ай бұрын
Hi Olivier. I’m sure we did the elevator trim by the book initially, but later we implemented Sling Notification #0009, Removal of Elevator Center Balance Weights. Part of that procedure includes an adjustment of the elevator trim tab, turning the clevis a full 3 revolutions clockwise (inwards). I haven’t measured the trim tab deflection since then, but clearly it’s somewhat different than the original deflection. I’ll have to check next time I go out to the hangar, but I imagine after the change that the tab is now slightly deflected for ANU when the G3X shows neutral.

Hi, I do not know your first name, maybe Mike ! I was wondering what pushes you to adopt this counterweight removal from elevator horn, is it because with parachute your Cg is too close to forward limit ?

Thanks for the great video… quick question… on low rpm and with both fuel pumps on… what fuel pressure are you getting? What is the max? Thanks!!
@OneAlphaMike
@OneAlphaMike Жыл бұрын
The max (at the fuel rail) is 46 psi, but it’s allowed to exceed that up to 51 psi for short periods. Mine does slightly exceed the 46 sometimes, especially when using 100LL. I even changed the fuel pressure regulator once but it still does it. Seems to be just the way it is. 🤷‍♂️ I could change the location of the fuel pressure sensor. It’s currently before the fuel filter; I could move it downstream. That could likely make a PSI or so of difference.
