1k miles into my 2022 Carnival SX and I'm loving it thus far. More space than you know what to do with. The tech is awesome. It was either the Carnival or the Palisade, but I gave up the Palisade AWD for more space in the KIA, plus some savings with the Kia being cheaper. The ride is silky smooth. The vehicle never feels big. The 360 cam, cooled front seats and larger infotainment screen set the hook for me. Kids love the rear screens, but folks should know that the vehicle doesn't have a hotspot for mobile data. I purchased a T-Mobile 5G hotspot, and I dumped 30gbs of movies to USB sticks and the kids have everything they need. Only a few things that I would ding KIA on with the Carnival- none of them deal breakers at all. 1- Too much piano black accent in the cabin. Yes, it's what is in expensive European sports sedans, but it's not something you want in a vehicle with kids. I stash a microfiber towel in the glove for periodic wipe downs. 2. No wireless Apple Car/Android Auto. Bad MISS by KIA- actually all South Korean companies as they're all not supporting the wireless with the larger screen infotainment systems that have NAV. 3. No USB charge/power port in the console cubby. WHAT? The vehicle has like 9 USB charging ports, but none inside the cubby where you can stash things like a 5G hotspot to charge. I can't have wires exposed in my ride. Looks trashy IMO. Gotta be able to stash stuff away that's being charged. 4. The vehicle won't save your driver assist preferences. If you want to prevent the computer from applying brakes in emergency stop situations, there are options in the vehicle settings to switch to "Alarm only!" You can select those, but once you turn the key off, those settings revert back. Hopefully KIA resolves that with a future software update because that feels like a major glitch. I DO NOT want a computer applying my brakes. We've had a few folks on the Carni Owners forum report the vehicle performing emergency stops on the highway in error. That needs to be resolved. All in all, a wonderful vehicle!!

We never use our moon roof even when we had a double with kids and heat pounding on your head they just aren’t that useful for me with kids so ours is usually closed except small gaps in fall and spring so no moonroof is fine. I want the hybrid Sienna, and I wish there was a full PEV option. We have a large family and we've owned multiple different minivans--favorite for comfort was the Chevy Venture, but it had a horrible reliability rating. That was exactly my experience. The Mercury Villager felt very cheap--it was small, flimsy, and powerless. The Dodge Caravan wasn't as comfortable as the Venture, but better than the Villager. It worked well--until it didn't. It needed 3 transmissions by the time it hit 150,000 miles. Finally, we opted for the more expensive Sienna and that's where we've stayed. Reliable, comfortable, adequate power. Now I want to quit paying for gas. I don't ever want to deal with a transmission again. Bring on the EV.

The KIA engine is better then the Telluride and is the same engine as the Genesis GV80 without the supercharger, so it really is in a league of its own. It was designed by Karim Habib who worked for BMW for over 20yrs. The sport mode in this “ fun bus “ is amazing! Yeah Toyota has hybrid but lacks sporty driving and most drivers wanting a V6 and SUV ride will go for the luxury VIP SX Prestige. I don’t have young kids. I test drove everything from Mercedes GLS, BMW to Chevy Traverse and traded in my Hyundai Palisade for this AMAZING ride! The front cluster with navigation is by far better then Mercedes. KIA is #3 for reliability through JD Powers with Toyota falling behind. Lexus # 1 but we all know Japanese technology is ancient and Porsche #2. Korean vehicles are ahead of everyone in technology and safety.

This isn’t how I would compare these minivans. The Toyota costs somewhat more, being a hybrid and being a Toyota, so by choosing to compare them by equal price you’re comparing a higher trim Kia to a lower trim Toyota. The real bottom line is that the Toyota will save you almost 1000 a year in gas and more than that in fewer trips to the dealership for repairs. If you can’t afford the trim you want in Toyota, fine. But the Toyota Sienna is substantially better than the Kia, and priced higher. Is it a better value? That’s a judgment call. I choose the 2023 Sienna Platinum after 5 disastrous years owning the 2018 top trim Pacifica (a horrible, horrible vehicle, that never worked and ate batteries like breakfast bars.)

You are the man. AWESOME review. Yours was one of a few reviews that really helped us make our decision. We actually just bought a 2022 LX Seat Package Carnival and we really like it. After researched every minivan/MPV option VERY thoroughly we concluded that Carnival really has the best total package nailed, all things considered. Those include storage space, leg room, interior/exterior SUV design, more ground clearance, safety, better reliability than all other options in recent years, very respectable gas mileage (we’re getting 30+ on highway), unrivaled infotainment user experience, and the best warranty in the business. We used to be a Honda family but it feels like Honda has stopped trying (feels cheap, much less reliable, and VERY cramped drivers seat leg area), Chrysler interior still feels old school (with lackluster long-term satisfaction), and Toyota will cost you premium dollars for hybrid and AWD (but mechanics tell me that those options lead to more expensive maintenance in the long run). Regarding AWD, I discovered a great KZbin video showing how snow tires (plus traction control) make a much bigger difference than having AWD in the winter. And the Carnival has the BEST 2nd row center/8th seat (especially vs Honda and Toyota), reversible (rear-facing 2nd row option), and with the LX seat package we can remove 2nd row seats if we need to. And the price is VERY competitive. Toyota’s CEO recently admitted that Hyundai/Kia is the one brand family that worries him when considering their competition. For good reason.

Let me tell you guys something about AWD. It's not the end all be all during winter OK? I live in MN. I would say AWD comes into play about 5% of the time during winter. AWD cannot help you stop, which is 90% of the accidents that occurs during winter. AWD is a mental safety net for drivers. It "Makes" them feel safe. But the facts are, when you're driving in snow condition and you have to apply the brakes, the AWD will not help you stop any quicker. It's the tires. During the winter here in MN, I see hundreds of vehicles in the ditch. Guess how many of those have AWD/4WD? A ton of them. Why? Because it gives drivers a false sense of security. Oh...I have AWD...I can drive faster. Again, if you need to put on the brakes, you are sliding into the ditch my friends. AWD is not the lifesaver. If you want that, get a set of snow tires. THose will last 3 seasons. Snow tires on a Carnival beats a Sienna with AWD on A/S tires....any day...especially stopping distance.

@@smrtguy77777 We live in a neighborhood where there is a pretty steep incline. During the winter, especially after a snowfall, I see tons of cars, trucks spin out, then back down and go around the neighborhood where the exit is flat. It's a pain in the ass. Last year, when we got the Carnival, I tried it with 3" of fresh snow. Couldn't get up that incline from a stop. I had to back up, and go around. Two weeks later with Blizzaks, we had more snow...about 4-6". I tried from a stop from that same incline and got through.....very little tire spin. I got up and through with no problem. With AWD and A/S, I'm guessing Maybe...maybe it go through OK. But I doubt it. IN the end, AWD is as only good as it's tires. If the tires are no good, you'd spin, and AWD won't do diddley.

Based on some sales metrics I read recently, minivan models w/ avail AWD make up only 10% of sales numbers (forget the source). I think given the cost of R&D and manufacturing that goes into AWD, I can see why manufacturers aren't too inclined. In addition, AWD tends to be found in the higher end models as well. So unless you're in bad weather all the time, it's just not worth the returns for manufacturers. Also, IMO, AWD can give you a false sense of security. I have a Subaru w/ AWD. Without the proper tires, AWD isn't going to help you in snowy/icy conditions. Will certainly help in wet weather, but you're better off driving more carefully. Just my opinion of course. I also want to add that 19" wheels are going to introduce more road noise into the cabin as equipped. Not sure how much less noisy the Kia would be w/ the standard 17" wheels, but noise should be lower.

So I just took my Carnival up to the Yosemite area in late November. Fortunately, it didn't snow at all on the way up, but after I got there, we got a lot of snow. I bought a pair of chains, tho it's not recommended by the owner's manual, and these I test fitted before heading up. The way the chains went on, there was no damage to the wheels, which are ALU alloy. I wasn't going as fast as AWD vehicles, but the Carnival was pretty steady as I was careful about braking too late. My next step is to look at either all-season tires rated for winter/snow driving or purely winter/snow rated tires. This is more for my peace of mind. My point is that if you're careful, AWD isn't strictly necessary unless you really need to drive around in bad snow weather all the time.

I have the Sienna and like it a lot... but I think if the Carnival was available at the time back in Febraury, I would had gone with the Carnival. I test drove it 3 times and I thought it was more comfortable and had more cargo space behind the third row...something I miss with the new Sienna vs my previous Gen3 Sienna. Also, all the hollow plastic in the interior of the Sienna still bothers me.... but hey, the MPGs are outstanding and makes me content with the Sienna, gas is $4+ where I am.... averaging 38.7 overall and on a recent road trip driving for a long period, I was getting 42+ mpg.

We recently bought the Sienna. Happens to be identical to the one shown on the video. We’ve had it for 3 weeks and have put 1300 miles on it. We absolutely love it. I don’t believe you can go wrong with either one of these options, though. We really like the Carnival, too. Besides the Sienna we also considered the Pacifica Hybrid, the Carnival and the Odyssey. A hybrid powertrain was a big selling point for us, plus value for the money. We chose the Sienna and we know we made an excellent choice, but it really depends on what you’re looking for. We love the gas mileage (we’re getting 34.9 mpg), and the way it drives, but the others offer a more ‘sporty’ drive at the expense of fuel efficiency. It’s worth noting that the Sienna comes with 3 different transmission settings: Eco, Normal and Sport. You can flip between these 3 on the fly, depending on your driving needs. The Sport setting offers a very decent amount of extra ‘muscle’ when needed. These are all great products at the end of the day. We hope our feedback is valuable to someone out there weighing the options.
