Any possibility of selling your products to Canada in the future?

I wish I could figure out how. We are asked that often and I actually have an unreleased FAQ video about that. Every time we try to sell in Canada, it has gone horribly wrong. The harmonized codes are a guess and even after paying a company to choose the correct code Customs still told us it was wrong. We ended up being billed over $200 for a bat house we shipped. The last time we thought we had it solved, one of our clients purchased a $59 kit (at the time) paid $38 to ship it and then received it with a bill for more than $100 when it arrived at her door. She wasn't happy, we refunded her money and we took the Canada shipping option down. Canada can sell into the US, no problem, but in reverse I've yet to find a way to do it without someone getting screwed over in the process.

@@h4bats It's a shame to have to go through so many hoops. Small businesses may not be able to afford the expertise to figure all these things out. I guess it just won't be worth your while. Just a thought... some community colleges here in Canada (we actually just call them colleges) have students that will help out small businesses as part of say their marketing diploma. The hours of real experience count towards their requirements. Maybe if you reached out you could get some help for your business, even with things like marketing, social media, etc. You are extremely knowledgeable and have a great product that is so valuable! I wish you all the best :)

I readily admit marketing has been our weak point. During the first 10 years or so we tried many different things and unfortunately paid money for things that didn't work including consultants. I have not tried marketing students, wouldn't even know how to begin finding those. For the past few years we adopted the idea that "it is what it is" and let it be. We've done well, I can't complain (except maybe the past 2 years). We've been blessed and will keep going.
