I see people commenting "nooo" or "I'm not ready to give up x part of my clothes" and I'm like PLEASE DON'T THE PLANET IS DYING FROM GARMENT WASTE. Trends are fun to look at, they aren't a directive to get rid of your existing wardrobe. Also the super fun thing about keeping clothes that aren't trendy is when they become trendy again and you're fully prepared.

I'm 70 and I see nothing here that would be appropriate for me, on a tight budget... guess I am not 'trendy'.

@@carolc7363 I'm 32 and still wear pieces (cardigans, tops) that I used to wear when I was in highschool (in the Philippines that was for 12-16 year olds). I rarely need to buy new clothes, most of my wardrobe are from gifts and pieces I bought from thrift stores. I don't really care about being "trendy," I'm petite and have a tiny waist so I just dress in a way that flatters my form. I do like looking at Justine's vids, it's like a window to another world, I like her discussions about color palettes but I don't feel I need to follow any trends.

I have a skirt in my closet I bought when I was eighteen. I was going to wear it on the fiftieth anniversary of my purchase but everything shut down because of COVID. But I’m a bit nervous about going out in it not because it wouldn’t look fashionable or look good on me. It’s flashier than my comfort zone - a red suede midi with a slit up one side, not revealing because I’ve always worn it with black tights or leggings, but people look when I wear it. I love that skirt and wish there was a way I could wear it and blend in more. Maybe next fall under an oversized black coat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As a retiree who is not sporting a six pack, I will not be wearing cutouts, or low waisted anything. I would wear a transparent shirt in summer with a camisole under it. Right. So right. I'm 58, and while I'm at my skinniest right now, that skinny ain't hard or flat. I wear UPF clothes nearly year round. Nothing transparent or cutout for me either. I actually dislike the look of all cutout clothes. I was not into cold shoulder tops, or even tops that had some cut out toward the shoulder from the neckline. Give me crewnecks all the time!

I won’t follow either but I can’t be critical, I can see myself, back in the seventies, wearing purple satin hot pants and a pair of cork platform ankle strap shoes, with long socks, and believed they were wonderful. The memories bring a large smile to my face.

@polishtheday2 жыл бұрын
@@Thecodexnoir This has nothing to do with the case against low rise. I wore a pair of thrifted low rise jeans last summer. It was a good reminder how uncomfortable I felt in them the last time they were in style so no thanks. Mid rise is low rise on me. Even some so-called high rise jeans fall below my bellybutton. I walked around all day feeling like my pants were falling down even though they were belted. Low rise flatters those with short torsos because they make the upper body look longer. Those with long torsos are better wearing high rise to make their legs look longer. Most of the “you look great. I wish I could wear those” compliments I get are when I wear my high rise wide leg jeans and come from people who don’t have what society considers an ideal body shape.
@raraavis77822 жыл бұрын
@@polishtheday Yes, very true. I have proportionally long legs and a short torso without much waist definition. I look like something from a fun house mirror in highwaisted pants. If I can even get them closed, because my waist just is a whole dress size larger then my hips. Nothing to do with body fat, either - I just have very narrow hips. Which, of course, means, that low rise pants slide down on me even worse then on most other people 😄. For me, wearing skirts or legging isn't a fashion choice, but rather a practical decision.

I have some regret that I covered my body a lot at the ages when cutouts would've looked good. Then again, would I really have liked this trend? In reality, wearing those very exposed styles would've been 1) unaffordable luxury in my teens to 30s, 2) impractical because of working long hours where these clothes would've been inappropriate, 3) would've gotten a lot of unwelcome attention from men. And a young woman rarely had much power to stop it. Conclusion: fun to see on models, less fun IRL?

It is interesting to compare fashion coming out of this pandemic with the one of Spanish Influenza (1918-20) that resulted also in showing more skin, particularly the legs as hemlines came up to and above the knees for the first time. A sense of freedom of the mind as well as the body, perhaps? Also, simpler lines, more comfortable and use of colour. In fact, you could almost take your audio and put it against a 1920s fashion show.

I dare these designers to create fashions that will look amazing on an average person. As usual, these models can "make a garbage bag look good" AKA "is it fashion or is she just skinny?" Interesting! I used to report on trends for Federated Stores (they own Macy's Bloomingdale's and other major retailers) and I have been feeling a need for color like never before. I am 71 so some of these trends I will not wear, like super-short or platforms. But I have been pairing brights under sheer or openwork and I love the varying widths of the pant leg. I prefer the high waist - more flattering to most women - low rise is for the super slim and fit or for those who don't mind muffin tops. I have been buying some cut-outs. I have been purchasing long, skinny silk scarves, silk knits and Chanel inspired jackets to pair with my very slim cut pants. I like a large, structured bag that matches my shoes. And - hats! COLOR - very bright (with black or a large abstract floral or a horizontal or vertical stripe and color blocking are what I want these days. And for me it's all about elegant no matter where I am - casual in the best fabrics in a comfortable and always flattering silhouette. Thank you for your videos - love them!

It will be fun to see how these translate into consumer fashion, the designer samples are always a little out there and it always trickles down in much more wearable iterations. I’ve been seeing short skirts, lingerie styles and cutouts on so many young women and I applaud their body confidence!!! Fashion is so fun, even though I pass on many trends as they’re just not for me. I can still appreciate them and love seeing how women put them into their own wardrobes.

I’m also running out to stock up on high-ish rise jeans while they’re still available…you never know how long it will take for them to come back around again 😂

I love seeing new and innovative shoe designs and I'm looking forward to that. But I hate low-rise jeans/pants, they traumatized me enough in my teens, no need to repeat the problem, lol. my body is just not built for them. however, I will continue to wear slim/skinny jeans because I have them and don't want to be wasteful. also, they are practical for tucking inside the boot during winter

This is fantastic I already do shear layers in summer! My favorite is a sheer white sleeveless collared button up perfect for work with a proper tank top underneath or just around or layer something over it to really dress it up. Seriously sheer has been underrated

As a fat person I have been loving and embracing all the skin-baring trends! I made my own miu miu micro skirt by cutting a pair of mens trousers that I thrifted and I have never felt more confident and excited to wear an item for summer :) i know showing belly button and wearing low rise bottoms can be really intimidating but I honestly think people should stop caring about and valuing thinness as a fashion accessory anyways 🤷🏽 if it makes you feel good do it and enjoy it !!!

I’m really loving all the bright colors and the platform sandals. The low waisted jeans give me nightmarish back flashes of when I could never find jeans that fit me correctly as a teen, because of my curvy Brazilian body. High waisted jeans came as a god send, so I’ll wear them until I die.

I say no to crack, so low-rise is a no for me! :) Also how cruel can designers be to push scandalous cut outs and vag showing skirts when we've been stuck in our house for eight years eating cake?! (hyperbole much?) I'm going to try platform because it'd be nice to reach the top cupboard, and snatch up anything bright green that fits me well! 💚🥰 Love this video every year!

I really like this series, and I always look forward to the next one when the season changes. It’s so helpful having a guide to what’s going on in these runways, and it’s made the world of fashion seem so much more understandable and usable instead of just a bunch of crazy outfits. That said, I’m sticking with my skinny jeans and leavin Y2K in Y2K. 😘😂

I was a teenager during the late '90s and I cringe when I think about what I was wearing back then😂. I am short but now I don't find platform shoes flattering on me, they look too bulky, and I like high waisted jeans (not exaggerated high, and not baggy). I think the only purchase I would make based on these trends is a colourful blouse since my closet is mostly neutral and a pop of color would be a good idea. Need to find a nice fuxia one!

Why is it ok to have the youth half naked and not call it pedophilia? Imagine us old folk wearing these and our guts are hanging out from the sides, wouldn't that put off the kids from wearing them? Why be an adult and walk around half naked in a dangerous world? (But its ok for children to)

Justine, I am turning 70 this year and I am over 200 pounds. As you can imagine, the entire look felt a bit shocking. BUT I am so happy to have normal jeans! I am not a prude, I wear a modest bikini to dance aqua-arobics in the pool. ( I want to shed the Covid weight. ) I think I will sew myself a waltz length circle skirt in bright turquoise blue and pair that with a Bright, loose, big print top in yellow, magenta and that same turquoise. I am expecing summer to sizzle so I am repurposing some nice old linen items to stay cool.

Best advice I was ever given. Do not follow fashion like a slave, rather create your own style that fits your life style and body. Update with fine touches to your wardrobe, You will be happier and save money in the long run. I wear dark high waisted pants with a slightly loose leg cut, with white cotton/linen shirts most of the time. I am good. I do enjoy your fashion videos and commentary.

I already survived the early 2000s trends. I have absolutely no desire to relive that. Once was enough. It is, for me, the ugliest era of fashion history. Even the 70s and 80s, as wacky as they were, had some redeeming aspects. Y2K fashion is tacky through and through.

Looking forward to more low rise! Maybe because I'm short waisted, but everything else cuts into my gut when sitting. I've been buying many of these elements mentioned in vintage clothes for the last year and a half. Most of them have a more goth/punk aesthetic because that's how I wore them the first time around haha. I don't feel pressured to be my high school weight in them. I'm far more confident in myself and body now.

For real. I have been scouring this comment thread to find someone like minded. I have a shorter torso, and mid and high rise are very uncomfortable and give me a very weird look and erases my waist if I'm not careful. Low rise with a belt looks fabulous on me, and no hurting my internal organs or rolling over fabric when I bend. Look wise and comfort, it's better for me. And I can wear shirts without the zipper and buttons showing through my shirts (and giving them all holes if im not careful).

I’m also a woman of a certain age and love to see the trends so I can take maybe a hint of one and add it to my wardrobe. A top with cutouts along the arms or bare shoulders added to my high waisted jeans and platform sandals in a fun color sounds like a good plan for summer.

I have to pass on low-rise jeans and micro minis. I'm in my 40s now, versus being in my 20s when those trends were original. I'm all about the platform sandal revival. Now I get to be 5" taller(I'm 5' 8.5") WITHOUT PAIN. I love that for me😊. I also never stopped wearing maxi dresses. I live in them in the warmer months.

Love the return of low waist line. Even at 65, this is the style most comfortable and flattering on my body type. I don't need to show my belly (a top can do that) nor do I need to cover it with stiff denim and a heavy zipper.

Back in the 90s, we referred to the long and lean look with low rise jeans and crop tops as "dolphin torso." I am surprised with all the emphasis on full and flowing sheer fabrics that there aren't more head scarves or wraps. But perhaps haute couture sees them as too easy for adding colour and a sense of luxury to an outfit?

If it’s not broken it doesn’t need fixing. I’ve found my groove. I think that’s what the last few years have been about. Tossing clothes is silly when fashions change so quickly now bc Instagram beats them to death so fast, and we are all more environmentally aware. Also, the economy is so destroyed after covid, we will be lucky if we have enough to eat. Remember snakeskin print dresses? I say do your own thing, thoughtfully of course, and with panache. But if something is trending that you always love, stock up on it when it goes on sale.
