just a couple notes for hair newbies: Oil is not the same as moisture! you can use a topical oil like jojoba or argan oil on your hair, but this is not inherently moisturizing - it does add shine and is an emollient that can assist with detangling, definition, etc, but oil repels water. ideally you want to use this to "lock in" moisture 🤹

Shea moisture. Colton king, reverie. Argan oil (pattern), get heat protector for hairdryer. Sea salt spray. - Use cold water, start warm to cold, haircut layering texturing. Get top layered. Hair care is not always rainbows and sunshine if you have underlying medical conditions linked to it. My scalp is so oily that I can't skip shampoo even just for a day as gunk starts to build up immediately, with my oily scalp i developed seborrheic dermatitis a severe case of dandruff. With my constant struggles of finding the right balance, I found out that anti-dandruff conditioners exist which is a godsend. Constant use of anti dandruff shampoo ruins hair, its nice to have a conditioner that won't activate my underlying seborrheic dermatitis.

Hot take: I see lots of content for thick, especially curly hair but BARELY See content for fine, limp hair and if I do see content on it, the creator assumes that fine hair =not having high density hair, or a high number of strands on your head. That’s thin hair, NOT fine hair. Fine hair is the width/circumference of the individual strand. I have A LOT of fine, oily hair. I’d just like to see more content on it that’s all. Feel free to lmk any creators that have a lot of fine hair. :-))

Hi, yes I agree with most of what you say, but I have been using head and shoulders for about 8-10 years and my hair/scalp has never/rarely gotten dandruff, nor has it experienced anything bad. My hair is soft and has lots of volume/is natural. I was told by a trichologist that my hair and scalp are in pretty good condition and that I shouldn't make any major changes to my shampooing routine (I use Head and Shoulders and use some random conditioner every 2-3 days). I guess that's how my hair and scalp works, yours might be different and others might be different. I used to shampoo every 2 weeks and my hair was a horrible mess, it was dry and broken, and when I started shampooing every 2-3 days a week it got much better and unfolded its natural shape and form.

@Falnky Жыл бұрын
Honestly, the "avoid shampooing as much as possible" thing is an old wives' tale, both from research and personal experience. It's propagated by natural beauty fearmongering, I've never heard it from a medical professional before. If anything, avoiding taking care of your scalp by washing the oils and gunk away can cause skin problems and possibly even lead to hair loss. I tried the minimal shampooing thing a couple years ago. I thought I perceived my hair getting less oily as my head was "getting used to" not shampooing as frequently. Looking back on photos of that time compared with now, I realize that I just got used to how I looked with greasy-ass hair. There was no physiological change other than occasional scalp irritation. The only reason I personally go as long as I can between washes now is to preserve my color, because that shit is expensive. But if your hair feels gross, it is gross, and you should wash your damn head.
@milenamilena9664 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I was surprised when I heard that because I got all my knowledge from Polish "school" of haircare. And the first thing you always hear in those videos is that you should shampoo your scalp depending on its needs, and "training" it by not washing is a myth. Yeah you can prelong your scalp freshness by taking care of it (peelings and rub-in conditioners) but it is a matter of one or two days not a week.
@MrJacobkoh Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's really not a black and white for shampooing hair. Its a spectrum. From medical conditions to head pimples from not shampooing hair. Find out what works for you, be it shampooing less and having less hair grease if it works for you or shampooing everyday as you get pimples if your scalp needs to be clease.

I feel you, it might be worth testing different shampoos and conditioners or the way you apply those. I have this issue you're talking about and after switching to a much lighterweight shampoo & conditioner that stays in my hair better, then using less shampoo but targeted on scalp + conditioner carefully avoiding scalp or close to roots, I'm able to go a bit longer without shampooing. I have also used an extremely small amount of shampoo before, just to like spot treat the top of my scalp, if the rest of my hair looks fine.... But also keep in mind the more you shampoo, the more natural oil your scalp will produce. And there's some other stuff you can do to avoid some of the issues from shampooing too much, like using a light defining gel (I use devacurl) or oil, or leave in conditioner, or some combination of these to lock in the moisture you put in with conditioner. Recommendation for if you do the defining gel, get some morrocan oil styling cream and use if it your hair feels hard after everything dries. It'll break the bond and your hair will feel soft again. Finally getting a hair cut that has short layers on your thinning areas will help a lot, I have general thinning across my whole top of my scalp so I use a shag cut and will try to blow out the top area a bit so it doesn't sit flat on my scalp. All this being said this is my experience, your best options are probably very different. But, generally just experiment/try different stuff you'll find things that work *better* than others.

Note that you cannot actually train your hair to stop producing so much oil. A lot of people unless you have super curly or coily hair, need to be washing at least twice a week. Once a week for most white/european genetics need more frequent washing as we’re prone to dandruff and seb derm easily.

I think when it comes to hair and skin care, it is good to hear advice from other people, but the most important part is knowing your own skin, and focus on that. I have combination skin, so my "T-Zone" which includes the scalp is more on the oily side than the rest of my skin. I wash my hair every other day, and when I redye it I tend to wait 72 hours the first month. For me if I wait longer my hair gets really bad, because my scalp is naturally and genetically more oily. If I had normal skin I wouldn't need to care the same way for my skin as I have to do now. For hair I think the best thing to do is to share your hair history with your local hairdresser and get advice on what works best for you. People have told me all life that I wash my hair too often, but my hair dresser thinks otherwise. It is more about washing your hair correctly with the right product for you, so you can wash it a bit less often, than the fact that you wash it a lot. If you wash it wrongly, your hair wont be fully clean, and if you use the wrong product, your scalp is not gonna be happy.

Yesss, oiliness is genetic. Those who have an oily scalp cannot go more than two days without washing.

Same. I use head and shoulders and still have a little dandruff which I'd like to get rid of, but when I've tried using less or switching brands in the past, my dandruff becomes uncontrollable. Even once when I stuck with using very little shampoo for a few months. Head and shoulders so far has been the only thing to keep it at least somewhat under control

Unless it's a medical condition, I found that usually dandruff is only dead skin. You can simply massage your hair with oil before shampooing, it will help get your hair well cleaned without a too harsh shampoo. If it's not enough, add something to physically exfoliate your scalp with the oil ( like white sugar or used coffee grounds ) Someone in the comment also mentioned an anti dandruff conditioner. This is good because I guess it contains chemical exfoliate ( helping with dead skin causing dandruff while not being to harsh for the scalp! ) Hope this helps

Hey! How are you? So, Shampooing your hair everyday ISN'T wrong. I know that it is very spread like a cultural thing. Your sebum/ oil production is genetically regulated. People can have oily skin/ oily scalp and washing their hair or face 1x per day or 5x per day won't change their sebum production (but will probably mess up your skin and scalp barrier). Washing your hair is a process that is need to be done. Not washing your hair in certain frequency or not washing at all can cause some fungi infections and a pretty itchy scalp. The major damage that your hair suffers in the washing is from water!! Shampoo as frequently as you want and as your hair needs. Take care pal!

If you want terrible hair, shampooing every day is the way to go. Shampooing isn't bad by itself, as long as you use conditioner to return your hairs pH-Levels to normal. It's just not at all necessary for most people (unless you have some sort of medical condition) to shampoo more than twice a week

Underrated video seeing as how many tips and tricks videos there are on youtube that don’t teach us the fundamental stuff like this. It's usually just do this and do this or buy this product to do this, but some products don't work for reasons never explained, to which ppl. say it's just your hair type, but in those videos, its never explained what works for your hair and why. Too many videos saying the same generic thing. Loving your content right now! I've always thought of co washing as more of a trend and just an “in thing.” You explained cowashing well and made me feel the need for it in my hair care rather than having cowashing feel like this challenge ill endure for a couple weeks. Actually new, original, and valuable content. Love it man. Like the humour in the videos and the information. But i also got a problem with my weirdly dry and oily skin as a man that the other youtube videos dont help with that sadly. Could we get a new episode into skincare fine sir?

I have fine and thin straight/wavy hair and it used to produce a lot of oil quickly on roots BUT the ends were always very dry and frizzy. I'll share what helped me. In the shower I first put rosemary oil on the roots and massage it for a while. Then I wash my hair once with shampoo and then the second time, because if you wash it clean first, only after that the benefits of the shampoo can do their work. Then I condition as usual (do not put conditioner on roots!). Sometimes I also use leave in conditioner or frizz cream on damp hair. Ps! Some people say rosemary oil is too rough on its own and mix it with shampoo.

i have the same type of hair but i see that my hair is falling out alot and getting thinner, do you have any tips to increase hair growth?
@mightygdog2225 Жыл бұрын
@@illy_liaI experienced that issue too, still recovering from it, for me it was actually from having my hair constantly up in a ponytail. Hairbands are very destructive, if you really need to tie your hair I suggest those scrunchies, they're a bit more loose. Also thin and fine hair is the type to not be messed with when wet, meaning it's at its weakest then and you should not comb it while damp or wet. If your hair is falling out from one spot, it's most likely a medical issue, if it's falling out evenly, it's probably just stress!
@illy_lia Жыл бұрын
@@mightygdog2225 thank you for the reply. I actually use a hair clamp instead of hairbands. And i do think it falls out evenly instead of one spot only. I guess I'm stressed out but this problem adds to it too lol. Do you use any oils or treatments tht make you see any growth for previous falls?

I have a question. I have frizzy and wavy hair, and I hate it a lot. I used to have super straight and silky hair, and I think what damaged my hair like this is the constant use of hair wax. So as I've said, I have this frizzy and wavy hair. And I've found a solution on how to fix the frizziness of my hair, but the problem is, the wave. My hair has a weird wave pattern or direction. I always style my hair in the middle part and my front hair tends to flip out or flip in, and it sucks. After shower, my hair looks straight asf, but as it dries, it tends to wave. And I style my hair middle part, and both sides look really unproportional. I was wondering how can I fix it?
