I’m a video editor/producer by trade, and wanted to let you know that your constant push to improve and add variety to your videos doesn’t go unnoticed. I get so tired of watching channels that use the same tracks, the same vlog/time lapse back and forth, and zero variety. Good production with quality and straight-forward content is a rarity in the Automotive KZbin space.

if you don't have one, get your hands on a McMaster-Carr paper catalogue, and make an account. Just the joy of sitting down with an idea, and finding things you didn't know existed or X variant that no one bothers to carry existed is awesome :D I'm currently doing something similar on a smaller scale with my grand cherokee, I'll be going air shocks, but only for stabilization for towing tent trailer or something like that. But I have toyed with the idea of adding auto leveling and a switching valve to link/de-link the shocks from each other to get a little bit more forced articulation when I go out playing.

The only concern I foresee is that those internal bags are prone to abrasion leaks, so just be mindful of that. I think they make sleeves for them that help. Looks great though.

I also like that you found bags that are very close to ride height, so you can ramp up the bag pressure without having it lift it excessively, just ramp up the spring rate.

Great content as always. The pressures for the rear bags you mentioned in the first video make more sense with them being assistance bags rather than factory items. For reference, if you choose to swap to a full bag in future. You can get aftermarket bags 2" longer than factory that should drop straight in.
@captainswampy95013 жыл бұрын
Look to 18 wheelers for air controls. We have air over air switches and electric over air. I believe the valve your looking for is a pilot valve. It can be either for the air to be flowing or interrupted with the switch in the off position depending on the valve you buy. I like Haldex air products. Look at diff lock, 5th wheel lock, or suspension dump for air controlled switches.

@Nickwillfixit3 жыл бұрын
A little bemused as you can buy kits that bolt directly to a vehicle pretty sure they came with airide on some models so why. You were right not to use with the re-connect system the bags would not last long maybe weld just a cap large enough in diameter for the bag to sit on, the suspension travel limiter strap is a good idea, due to the terrain I myself would have fitted hard lines for all the lines going to the rear, this because I have had pipes I thought would never be well out of the way but no a rock kicked up from god now's where and lost fuel line, airline and my fuel pump power feed fortunate there as I did not lose much fuel. Keep the build coming.

Airbags get a bad rap. BUT many people don’t know the HUGE advantages, let alone the distinct differences, that an in-coil airbag assist can give them. I had used them many years on TJ’s for when I had a load hanging off of my hitch packer. You know... That Liberty has rear coils and ... oh, nevermind. (Just teasing you, sir!)

Have you ever thought about using hydraulic cylinders and running air in them? Ashman ran those on his xj way back in the Pirate 4x4 days. I think it could be made into a cheap system that could rival ORI's or coilovers.
@steveperez11783 жыл бұрын
Question, but first: Awesome! I will probably do this for my LJ which gets rear-heavy when loaded for camping. I'm curious why you put the control manifold (Air side) inside, running air hoses through firewall instead of just running wires out to it on the outside under the hood.
@ipotch13 жыл бұрын
Not sure what your max air bag pressure is but I installed inline pre set regulators for my airbags so I don’t accidentally over fill them. Also it’s good insurance if your air solenoid gets stuck open and continues to inflate the bags. It’s happened to me on my setup. Also I made my own 12v solenoid manifold for pretty cheap with brass fittings and solenoids from Amazon.

Nate, question. I have a air system on my jeep and I have a compressor that feeds a small manifold just off the compressor for my lockers in the engine bay then a long line that head to the back of the jeep to a reserve tank and the out to a fitting on the rear bumper. If I were to put a inline air dryer in the system, where would the best location be to help with water build up, near the beginning or near the reserve tank or after the reserve tank? What disconnecting my air hose I get a bit of moist air when you feel the burst from the disconnected hose. do you have a suggestion for a small inline airdryer that would work well on a vehicle

Hey man! I think for a wheeler ORI makes one of the best solutions for hard core offroad use. Very expensive of course but a great option. For an overlander that already has coils there is no benefit in my opinion. Only rusk and extra cost. If the ORIs go flat so do you. And the lead time to get replacement parts is months long. If you are 300 miles from nowhere and you have a failure in one of your ORIs you are stranded. But if one of these rear air bags fail I still have a coil suspending the weight of the vehicle. Not to mention the ability to change the pressure as I'm driving. Both are very good suspension options as long as they are used on the right application 👍
