first, what a great project. I can spend hours looking at these types of construction projects. The converted Smart is very similar to the ZCars Minis from the UK, where they build classic Minis with Honda K engines and Suzuki Hayabusa engines. Because these engines are starting to become scarce in Europe. They will now use Ford and VW engines, because they are easier and cheaper to obtain. These Minis have an 80 inch wheelbase. Due to the low weight of the car, the wheels spin and the car doesn't make wheelys. These Minis are super fast. Good luck with your further projects.
