Anyone who says this is the best Western of all time is forgetting Lonesome Dove ( albeit a miniseries) or The Unforgiven. This is obviously a great Western, but a little too slow and plodding to be considered the absolute best. Bale is undeniably a great actor when you consider some of the roles he had played. From Batman to Burt in Amsterdam to Irving in American Hustle to Dicky in The Fighter ( I believe his best ever role) to Patrick in American Psycho. I think he is this generations' most versatile actor, and he covers his British accent impeccably.

So many things wrong with this scene... 1. He should have immediately had everyone take cover, point any firearms at the approaching unknowns. There was zero reason to take so many civilian casualties. 2. When I say everyone take cover - that obviously means the main character too. You don't have to be standing in front of each other to talk. Yelling works fine. 3. Why does the landowner keep insisting that they aren't listening to him without any time to see if they're listening to him? 4. The main character should have, would have argued harder. Shooting a bunch of calvary officers is not a path to a long life in freedom, and everyone at the time knew it. 5. It's unclear whether the rider actually has the rights to this land and if so how his rights compare to the value of the paper written by the president. The audience is not lawyers. 6. With their legal position unclear, the shot fired by Ms. Pike escalated a confrontation to a battle. If the courts decide that it was the guys land and that his rights supersede, well, that's murder. Had the riders opened fire first, their position would have been much easier to defend. As it stands, it leaves the moral actions of the main characters very much in question, and I'm not sure that's what the writers intended. 7. I'm not especially literate on firearms, but there are plenty of others commenting about the lack of firearm historical accuracy here.

As many have noted, actors did a great job. Cinematography was top notch. Typical Hollywood style, the writing and accuracy was ridiculous. Any experienced soldier with citizens in tow going into a knowingly dangerous situation would never have let all these people stand out in the open toe to toe with the bad guys. As soon as he saw them on the horizon, he would have commanded everyone to take cover where they could, or else lie down in the grass, and point every available weapon at the bad guys as they rode up. They also would have been armed to the teeth. He then would have threatened them with something to this effect: “You see this piece of paper? It is from the President. If anything happens to me or these Indians or this burial site, the entire 9th Calvary will be here to hang all of you and confiscate your land. You get it stupid? Leave now while you still can keep your life and your land.” No shoot out, no civilians dead, but then Hollywood does not get their stupid gunfight where everyone dies.

The True History of what really happened in this Country, has never been told. We are "Indoctrinated" from Elementary to High School. Even thru Higher Education (Colleges & Universities) I remember thru out High School, our History teachers would label the American Indians "Savages." However, IF you ever do your research... you will find out, it has always been Esau/Edom that was/is The Savage monster. I know this is just one man's interpretation of a Book. I'm sorry to say that the greed of white men knows no bounds. You might only want access to a few acres for your purposes, old whitey wants thousands of acres and doesn't want to anyone walking on 'his land' Walking never hurt the ground. People will shoot you just because they can. America is a disaster for killing people and, here's the history of it, in recreated drama. Whether or not the characters are real, there's plenty of documented evidence of killing innocent people in the name of the United States of America. Even when natives were given land, it didn't take long for evil people to turn up and abuse them and kill them. Are not the original inhabitants still on reservations. Have they ever been accepted as humans and Americans Will they ever be acknowledged How todays generations can still hold to the history claiming it was justified, is beyond reason

We do recognize the indigenous people. I see them every day in movies and television. HOWEVER, you are a conquered people. You lost the war and lost your lands. I don't agree with how it happened. I think it was a travesty, at best. But the fact remains....your ancestors lost. You should feel fortunate that the government allowed you to stay. Most conquering governments exterminated, expelled or enslaved their victims. Get over it. Get on with your life. Make a life for yourself. How your ancestors chose to handle the opportunities placed before them in is not my fault or yours. My ancestors are not from this country. You don't see me complaining to Scotland about how they were expelled from their lands in Europe. They made a life where they could. This land has inumerable opportunities for everyone. Nobody is going to give it to you though. You have to go get it for yourself... The fact is, the entirety of the USA was populated by native Americans at one time. Do you really think that the US Government will give it back? Do you really want LA or New York or Chicago now that whitey has ruined it? They are not going to give it back, any of it. You'll have to take it....if you can. Or....you can go out and buy a piece of it, like millions of us have done, and be a productive member of society. Not saying you aren't, I don't know your situation. My point is the same as I had to learn for myself and what I told my children: quit whining and get to work. Nobody cares. Nobody is thrilled about having to support you. Go build a life for yourself. Your life is your responsibility alone. 😊😊😊
