I woke up singing this today. I'm glad to finally find a live clip of this song. Full Moon Fever was my life in College. Love and miss you, Tom.

Gene Clark was such and IS such an underrated talent. I'm so glad Tom saw that and brought Gene' s work to another generation with his own incredible talent. I'm much like another commentator here that still hasn't come to terms that Tom is gone.

Gene Clark wrote the song and got the royalties, I believe. I remember reading in his biography that the money was significant and a boon to Clark at that point in his career.

you know that their backing vocals took a huge loss when Howie was first kicked out of the band, and then shortly afterwards died(just like Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones). Here they have two backing vocalists instead of 3. 4 if you count the fired Stan Lynch.

He didn't even mention whose song this was, just that he hadn't played it in a long time and it was from his FMF album. Oh well-it's just that I love the ByrdsnRoger so much . . . He was great anyway: the Wilburys, sorry, but they simply would NOT have ROCKED without him, and I mean him ->in particular

Tom Petty was great for bringing some of the best 60s sensibilities, and often clothes to match too, to his later year audiences . " Needles and Pins" . " Something in the air" , " So you want to be a rock n roll star" . 'I fought the law' etc are all great covers he made his own as well. Roger McGuin really had a unique and special voice but Petty himself wasn't far behind.

Great live version of this song, but the audio and video need to be synchronized up.

Who is singing backup? Obviously Scott is, but I can hear a second male voice and it doesn't look like Ron or Benmont are singing.
@MikeMonosRareTomPettyMedia2 жыл бұрын
My guess is either Ron or Ben are chiming in occasionally. In the 'Live at the Olympic' DVD filmed about a month prior to this show, they both sing tiny parts at different points of various songs.
@MikeMonosRareTomPettyMedia2 жыл бұрын
There was no one else on stage and Mike and Steve weren’t singing, so it had to either be Scott, Ben, or Ron.
@scottmoreau56302 жыл бұрын
@@MikeMonosRareTomPettyMedia Definitely not Ron, you can clearly see him not singing. If it is Ben then that’s shocking because his vocals are weak. The ones here are quite high harmonies and powerful.

When they did a wide shot, it looks like the guitar player at the far right was singing the high part you hear initially. But then we hear someone singing a lower part, which fleshed out the vocals a bit. I didn't see anyone else near a mic, so am wondering if someone offstage was giving an assist.....?
@MikeMonosRareTomPettyMedia2 жыл бұрын
@@dodriggs it must be! Scott is usually the only one singing backup on the song (on the stage that is) LOL

Great song, but like most bands, their live versions are way too fast - especially this song. It's just part of playing live, I guess.
@dodriggs2 жыл бұрын
Notice Petty started it at a decent pace, but then the drummer and bass player came in faster than it started. HUGE peeve of mine! Rule no. 1: whatever tempo someone starts a song at should be the tempo all the way through, right or wrong. It's just too jarring when some drummer decides he needs to speed up or slow down.
@scotthunt24792 жыл бұрын
@@dodriggs Well said. That's exactly what happened. The drummer took off like there was no tomorrow.
