I had two trigger fingers and had the injections and they worked great. I had a third t-f and by accident it got fixed when I started doing dead hangs. At the same time the dead hangs relived pain in the thumb joints on both hands. Strengthening the hands can help hand pain. I am 78 years old and hanging 3 minute hangs twice a week. Note: to get 3 minutes I hang 30 to 50 seconds at a time.

Thx for the info. 70 yr old female. Trigger thumb first occurred approximately 8 months ago (dominant hand) First used a splint but that was way too bulky. Switched to bandaid, which was more comfortable. Started massaging nodule at the base of the thumb off and on throughout the day and now almost back to normal. Hi guys, Thank you for providing this good discussion to a public audience. I am a psw worker and have seen this condition in 4-5 old women and 2-3 past mid age man or patients. They all had one thing in common. They were diagnosed with neuro- muscular degeneration illness, not so with diabetes. A couple of them were stroke survivors. It's interesting that the trigger finger in both genders looked different, which makes me to think that this can serve as another evidence that male and female are not biologically equal. I believe the reason why all these patients did not undergo a surgical treatment, was due to a progression of their neurological brain disease, that could not grant any gain of function to any of their pulleys of their palms. Instead they were prescribed ( only a few of them) with a hand support device that goes around the thumb and prevents further flexion of all fingers. Keep up a good work and discussion

My daughter had trigger finger when she was 4 years old (so I was very surprised when you said that it is related to age and use of hand). She was referred to a plastic surgeon for surgery without any attempt of treating it with cortisone shots. She is now 27 and I haven’t heard her talking about any problems with the hand. We live in Southern California.

I had severe trigger finger (multiple fingers both hands) and it was often very painful. I tried all the over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs with little help. I then tried injections, which provided temporary relief. A couple of doctors talked about doing surgery, which I wanted to avoid. I'm 68 and physically active. So I started doing a lot of flex exercises, started taking magnesium and avoided all processed foods. After just two months, all of my trigger fingers are fine and my grip strength has improved. I can't say what specific action(s) got me the relief, so I'm sticking with my plan. I will do about 50 fruit tree cutting and grafts this morning and expect no problems with the hands.

I've had 4 (including a thumb) over the last 20 years. I didn't wait for it to become painful, just scheduled an appointment for a cortisone shot each time. The thumb was absolutely miraculous - stopped triggering immediately, and has not returned (20 years). A second, connected with Dupuytren's, got the injection. After a year, it occasionally triggered, so started massage and exercises, with great results and no progression with Dupuytren's as well.. The other 2 fingers haven't needed cortisone yet because they resolve quickly with massage/exercises - which can be done just about anytime and anywhere.

I had trigger finger and trigger thumb on both hands, caused by using crutches after a knee operation. The handles of the crutches were very hard plastic, another time I would pad them. It was partially self-inflicted, as I was so fed-up at not being able to exercise that I took to ‘po-going’ up and downstairs, somewhat dangerously. I went to the GP here in England, but wasn’t offered any treatment, and it eventually cleared up once I was off the crutches, with no recurrence.

There's no clicking, no pain. This happens occasionally, not real often. I do have to straighten it out manually. Since this only happens occasionally and there's no pain, I just straighten out the finger and that's it. I respect your view on firearms. Here in the U.S., we have more firearms than people. We also have an unacceptable amount of shootings. It's got to change, but I doubt it will, unfortunately.

I got trigger finger I. Nearly all of my fingers after redoing the trim around all my windows and doors that I replaced. The caulking and squeezing the trigger on a cheap caulking gun is what did it. Nearly all of them resolved on their own with rest NSAIDs and wearing splints at night except my pinky finger. After two steroid injections with no long term relief, the surgeon went in and cut that tunnel. It was fascinating watching him do it along with a bit of debridement of the tendon. It’s been almost 8 weeks and my strength is getting back to normal. Still a bit of scar tissue that’s annoying, but it’s getting better with time. I’m glad not to have the pain of that stick finger any more!

Hello, I had surgery 3 months ago for a trigger finger on my dominant hand, the ring finger. I lost mobility - I could not make a full fist. The surgery went well, yes it takes about 8 weeks to get full strength back. I'm a knitter and not being able to knit while recovering was not fun, but I'm back to knitting without hesitation. Going back to work on the computer was a challenge. My plastic surgeon told me I could go back to work after 4 weeks, but 6 to 8 weeks would have been better.

I’m 66. Very active mountain biking, skiing and other things. Last August my left thumb started to trigger and within a month the pinky and ring finger on the left and pinky ring and middle finger on the right started to trigger. The thumb ended up not moving at all in November until mid February when I did something ski touring and it hurt really badly . I pulled it straight and then did it again a few days later and shortly thereafter it stopped triggering. The hand surgeon I saw in late spring figured that I ripped through the inflammation and did essentially what he would have done surgically. All good now. But my other fingers trigger a bit in the AM but with use loosen up. The surgeon suggested I could be conservative and treat with Voltaren twice daily which I do. Cortisone was also offered but because there is zero pain I decided to be conservative in my treatment. It’s not worsening but it’s still happens. Time will tell what happens I suppose. I had Covid a couple years ago and one of the symptoms was sore knuckles. Putting on ski gloves was painful. The hand surgeon mentioned that Covid might possibly have caused the triggers.

I am 77. I get trigger finger in my ring finger on both hands. Usually only at night. It is caused, with me, by being dehydrated. I drink a glass of water and literally seconds later, the finger releases. Forcing them to open usually works if i do it gently, but sometimes if the resistance is strong i don't force it or it is painful. I tuck my hands under my pillow or my body, or my cat in an open position so my finders can't curl in my sleep. I sometimes use a short piece of toilet role core over three fingers to keep them from curling. No medical intervention necessary for me.
