I hate konyaku. Konyaku is the anti-tofu of badness. The lovely thing about tofu is that it tastes like whatever you cook it in. While tofu absorbs flavor, konyaku repels flavor. No matter what you cook it in, konyaku tastes like konyaku, which is to say liked not very much of anything.

The secret to konjac noodles (or konjac rice) is to stir fry without any oil just as Felu does. This takes away most of the strange jelly-like consistency. I also stir fry the konjac noodles or rice with finely chopped spring onion, chilli and soy sauce, to which you can add a beaten egg and/or a knob of butter. Takes only minutes to cook, is really delicious, filling and even lower in calories.

@@jlt131 it takes a bit of getting used to that's for sure. But dry frying is the key to making it a lot more palatable I've found. Be VERY careful with shirataki noodles. They are notorious for causing severe gastric upset and even blockages in a significant number of people due to a type of fiber they contain that’s indigestible by humans. That’s why they’re so low calorie. People have been hospitalized with blockages that had to be surgically broken up after eating them. Personally, I just got some wicked cramps and learned my lesson. Try eating a small quantity first to see how you respond.

Personally I don't think Shirataki noodles substitute the flavor of real noodles all that well. They have a similar texture, just none of the flavor. However, I have found that substituting 1/3 to up to 1/2 of the noodles in a recipe with shirataki noodles can work very well. You still get the flavor of real noodles, but the shirataki bulk up the volume a lot. Bean sprouts can also be good to partially substitute for noodles like this.

I used chicken thighs and added string carrots and baby Bella mushrooms. It came out great. Paired it with some red wine. Mine was spicy and garlicky but I think I might have added too much salt. I think maybe the gochujang might have enough salty flavor that I will hold back on the salt next time I cook this. It was really good.

For the sauce try simmering soy sauce, sesame oil, chilli flakes, white pepper, fresh chopped garlic, sushi vinegar, toasted sesame seeds, green onion, a touch of brown sugar and corn starch to thicken. Fry noodles like in the video then toss the sauce with the noodles at the end while the pan is still hot. Absolutely fantastic low calorie noodle substitute. Omit the chilli flakes if you don’t like spicy.

Love the video, they seem to be chicken tenderloins though, still attached to the breast but not quite "chicken breast"; very similar flavour profile and fat content but as the name suggests much more tender because of muscle fibre density and orientation. Personally I would much prefer thighs because fat shouldn't scare anyone especially when flavour and juiciness come into it but, in a dish that counts calories you should mention that it isn't "chicken breast" but "chicken tenderloin" even though it's more expensive if you want the dish to 'eat' the same for your viewers.
@Felu
@Felu 2 жыл бұрын
debatable. The recipe will work the exact same way, so are the macros. The tenderloinis basically chicken breast but it's a small part of it. Will agree 100% on the fat part tho :)

Really tasty dish! But I have to ask: Has anyone else gotten indigestion after eating this? I woke up in the middle of the night after eating this suddenly feeling nauseous. I live in Japan, and after asking some people they all told me that konjac based noodles can cause indigestion if you eat too much of them so I assumed that was the reason... So I’m just surprised no one else is commenting about that. I still want to try making them again though! Maybe half-half with some vermicelli noodles. Though they really clumped up and knotted together, and I couldn’t separate them while cooking... Any tips for avoiding this? Thanks in advance!

I poured boiling water on it and rinse several times based on comments. The hot Korean sauce really helps, the taste was good but kind of rubbery. Next time I will boil it a little, supposed to help with texture. In the end I’m very happy to have discovered shiratake noodles! Lost 60 lbs on keto + IF. Very fulfilling food 😊
