I'm sorry but the comment about dealing with emotions without medication isn't so nice. Some people have actual mental illnesses that require medication to help balance it out and treat it properly. I know first hand what it is like. I have depression so you're telling me to just learn how to deal with them? I have dealt with them my entire life and it's been agony. I don't sleep like I should. I don't eat like I should. I'm sad a lot and shouldn't be. So before anyone says that really stop and think about how some of us try to deal with our emotions but sadly they win and we take our own lives and stuff because it's torture. Please try and understand addiction doesn't discriminate and sometimes it's not even addiction that kills it's the simple drug itself not just the amount of it.

Many people depend on medication (that is properly prescribed to them.) Many people cannot function without this support. Perhaps you cannot relate, and if so, you are fortunate. There is nothing worse you can tell a mentally ill person than, "you just can't cope." So disgusting and insensitive. And we wonder why there is a percentage of those struggling who are afraid to ask for help... Please, have some empathy.

@@babydemon666 all these kids using illicit drugs aren't mentally ill and that's not what the aunt was talking about. But who are the ones that need to teach them how to handle feelings and how to react to them: parents. So many parents are protecting their kids from any disappointments and they end up not having the tools to face adversity in life. But many kids live in an environment where everyone, including their parents, are using drugs, so they learn to cope that way. This aunt was not talking about mental health issues. That is a totally different thing.

@@babydemon666 excuse me, having had a depressive disorder my whole life and being a sober alcoholic for 30+ years, as a child of generational alcoholics, I think you misunderstood me. @@glcmranger421. I don’t disagree with your premise, but until now it rarely was deadly to try a drug the first time or even with occasional use. The parents and grandparents of these younger victims probably tried some type of drugs in late teens or early 20s (in some cases, just marijuana, or just alcohol) - and as long as they quit, didn’t make foolish decisions about drinking and driving, or being a passenger, did not become addicted, it did not lead to death. Especially if sitting at home in their bedroom, watching a movie or going to sleep. Some of the stories are about people who have been addicted, but there are many others where it was a first time use.

Naloxone is the active ingredient in Narcan and is also available in many generics as a nasal spray. In fact, the brand name Kloxxado delivers a higher dose of naloxone than Narcan (Kloxxado-8mg per dose, Narcan-4mg per dose). Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available in the brand name Narcan or generic versions available for free. It is important to recognize that Naloxone is the drug, Narcan is just a brand name. Whenever someone uses the word "Narcan" in place of "naloxone", they're devaluing all the other equally effective brand options and promoting a specific pharmaceutical company.

@@JustSmilePsychoparents are just not parenting like they use to. From me talking to a lot teenagers & young adults the common issues that comes up is social anxiety. These are the kids that are raised as drifters, they are allowed to stay in their room for great length of times by themselves . The family bonding, outing is down. They feel as their parents are not actively involved in their life and would even know that they are doing drugs as they are so consumed with their own life struggles of survival.

No its not its really not that simple. There has to be budgeting for this and training as well as maintenance for stocking a drug on non heath professionals because NARCAN IS A drug that reverses opiods. I imagine bigger cities like L A probably can roll out such programs but smaller police departments may not have such resources. And we live in an error where you have some ppl saying defund the police for one reason or another but here provide narcan kits so it just is not so simple as police should carry narcan.

@@courtneyjohnson6088 As a nurse we all know of Fentanyl and its use for anesthesia. That’s a given. When a patient comes into the ER as an overdose. We stabilize the patient, and they’re off to the ICU, or even sometimes go home. Toxicology tests take weeks to come back, so those nurses that had initial contact with the patient would not have access to that information. Once a patient leaves your area, you can no longer access their records. So, we never know what our patients overdosed or got poisoned by. That’s why I said I never knew about Fentanyl poisoning until these videos. We just don’t see it at my facility. We service a primarily elderly or chronically ill demographic. If someone does come in with Fentanyl poisoning, I don’t work in that area. It’s likely not that often because our leadership has never felt the need to address it. Whereas the facility where my sister works. She’s a social worker. When I asked her about it. She said it is very prevalent at her facility, and she knows about it because she has to arrange the aftercare and rehab for those patients as a social worker. Nursing is a vast field.

Illicit fentanyl came up on my radar in November 2017 when one of my favorite musicians Lil Peep died from taking Xanax laced with illicit fentanyl. About a year later another one of my favorite musicians Mac Miller died from taking Percocet that was laced with fentanyl. I used to take Xanax from the streets for a couple years. Sometimes they were legit from a prescription most of the time they just came in a plastic bag. I quit using Xanax in January 2017 and have been off of pills completely since February 2017. I am blessed to still be alive today. The world has changed a lot and no drugs coming from the black market are safe.

Who needs to do something? What does that mean? The "government" is you. You and the taxpayers are the government. Stop looking to other people to blame for your own family members wanting to take drugs, knowing full well, they might die, if they do. It seems like so many people these days don't put any onus on the one choosing to do the drugs, they just want "the government" to save them while they continue to use. This has nothing to do with the first responders not having Narcan. The Narcan has actually just encouraged more druggies to keep using, cause "the government" will save them so they can continue to use.

I feel awful for this family. I do feel though, that putting all the blame on the officers is wrong. If she is a nurse and she knew her daughter was doing drugs then she should have Naxolone in her home.

The aunt’s son is an opiate addict also? That must be terrifying. I’ve had and lost many people to addiction substance abuse. It’s so hard when you can’t do anything. Except worry.

Prayers to you and your family ❤ I'm a recovering addict and I beat it in my girls' heads every day to NEVER take anything unless it's prescribed straight from a doctor. I'm so extremely sorry for your loss ❤️😭

Please stop blaming first responders for not having Narcan responsibility lies solely on the person that ingested the drug.

I just passed 6 and a half years clean on the 4th of this month (June 4th, 2024). My heart hurts for everyone who's lost a loved one. I just wanted to come here and say it's not because they didn't love you or feel like you loved them. The person you knew and loved was in there and they loved you as well. It's like being smothered by an oppressive blanket, that won't let the real you out. But they're in there. And they loved you deeply. I'm sorry for anyone who's dealing with this or has a loved one dealing with it. I hope you find your light

First off I would like to say I’m so sorry for loosing such a beautiful motivated young lady and second you got it right on the head about people taking these pills to mask their depression and anxiety! That’s exactly it and as a 4 months clean today actually off opiotes and alcohol I know first hand that I too was masking my severe depression. As soon as I got sublocade monthly injection for opiote addiction my severe depression has fully gone away and I haven’t touched drugs or liquor for four months or have I felt better ! I’m so sorry that your daughter never got that chance but just know this that I will LIVE MY LIFE CLEAN AND SOBER FOR DESI’REE and she lives long in my beating heart ❤❤❤ RIP sweet Angel.
