A mother shares her story of losing her 29-year-old son to fentanyl. Illicit fentanyl is a dangerous, life-threatening drug frequently found in other illicit drugs and results in the death of 200 people per day in the US. This is just one of those stories and delivers an urgent warning to avoid all illicit drugs.

The way this lady was spoken to by the person at the coroner's office was truly uncalled for, you are already at your lowest point and someone seems offended that you bothered them with a very legitimate question. Same exact thing happened to my girlfriend. We were drinking and I had no idea, but she had did 2 lines of heroin powder and overdosed. Thank god I went to check on her because she was dying. Her lips were blue and she was unresponsive. She wasn’t breathing and then all of the sudden 10 seconds later would take a huge breath then back to nothing. I ended up doing cpr and after about 5 min which felt like hours, she stood straight up and looked at me like..”what are you doing?” It was horrific! 7 months later she OD’d and I wasn’t there to save her. I love this page and the stories that often go unheard. But one thing (as a former user myself) that I simply cannot 100000% get behind is using “poisoning” so loosely. Those living in active addiction are choosing to take a pill/powder/etc without knowing what is in it. It was not prescribed by a dr and picked up at a pharmacy. At the end of the day, regardless of the disease of addiction, he chose to call/purchase from the dealer. We have GOT to put some responsibility on the those demanding, not just the supplier (who need to be prosecuting to the fullest extent). Much love, and responsibility. ❤️

It is called "poisoning" because in most of our stories none of the evidence indicates the victim knowingly used fentanyl, and evidence (texts, remaining pills, witnesses, etc.) does indicate that the victim believed he/she was using a genuine pharmaceutical. In these stories, the victim used an illicitly manufactured pill made to look like a genuine pharmaceutical product. The counterfeit pill contained fentanyl. Some states are creating laws that identify this kind of death specifically as poisoning. CNN, Fox News, DOJ, FBI, DEA, CDC, LA Times, Washington Post, PBS, the medical community, the addiction treatment community, the scientific community, the law enforcement community, and tons of others refer to this as poisoning.

@@TexasPictures I understand where you all are coming from and my heart breaks for this mom. No mother should have to bury their child… BUT buying illicit anything from a stranger or even a close friend is essentially signing a contract saying “I am willing to take something that I have no idea what is in, including the “poison”. This is why I feel the term was/is used lightly. One is playing Russian roulette’s with their life anytime they take something narcotic wise that has not been prescribed nor verified by a pharmacy. Responsibility has GOT to be taken to some degree. He is/was not a child.

Thank you for saying what I’ve wanted to say for a long time. I went through years of hell with my 2 brothers who were both drug & alcohol abusers, and their bodies became chemically dependent on them (I do not like using the term “addict”; to me, it’s no different than the “R” word). My parents went out of their way physically & financially blaming everything and everyone else for my brother’s behaviors. Rehabs & recovery centers never worked because they do not take the time to get at the root of psychological problems, they do not teach effective and individualized coping mechanisms - all they want to do is get that bed available as soon as possible. Personal responsibility is crucial to becoming clean and that doesn’t happen in 1 or 2 visits with a professional. It’s way too easy to blame a dealer, a friend, etc…

Mam, you are amazing and your son would be so proud of you, I know I am proud as a stranger! I am so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. Your son was so talented. I cannot believe that this keeps on happening in the US and Canada yet nothing is seemingly being done about it. The world stopped for the Covid pandemic yet this epidemic goes on. A whole generation wiped out and no one seems willing to take action. This is so heartbreaking. 💔

She talks about her son’s heroin usage like it’s a totally normal thing and is complaining about what the coroners office said about the cause of his death. Lady, your son used heroin regularly and you are sitting here bragging about it that you are filing complaints against these people who do their every day jobs? Seriously tho. I m truly sorry for her loss but nothing will bring her son back.

Fentanyl grandparents, and even then some of them are in addiction them selves .. anyway that really put a proper perspective on the truth out here in the United States communities with this opioid epidemic tearing apart young families and young mothers and fathers.. This mother has a powerful voice, and is well articulated with her words and points. She needs to keep fighting the good fight, she’s definitely impactful because she’s impacted me already I can listen to her speak another 30 min honestly. My condolences to you ma’am and your family.. may God bless you and your family and those you’re helping.

Every high-school child should listen to this entire video ... every year .... Nobody should ever need to again say: 'I did not know'. I just researched whether marijuana could be laced with fentanyl. Apparently, according to a 'drugfree' website, even if it was, it would have no effect ... as fentanyl is destroyed when burnt. Strange ...

I don't know of many families, including my own, that haven't been touched by this crisis. Addiction has no bias. It doesn't care who you are, where you came from, what color you are. It will take you and refuse to let go. I'm so sorry for your loss, I admire your strength and determination.
