I have a '62 500D that we're loving in the U.S. and needless to say there aren't many mechanics here, so I'm enjoying (and learning a lot from) your videos. Thanks for sharing them!

Hi I am restoring a 500F, would you have any tips / tricks for fixing the front panel to the front wings, how to weld etc
@AircooledProject Жыл бұрын
Hello. I only replaced the bottom section of the front panel. There's a video on my channel about it. If you replace the whole front section, I'm guessing the welding will be a bit tricky. I don't see a regular spot welder fitting in those tight spaces, so a mig welder would have to do. Just take your time , make sure everything is aligned before final welding. Also, it's a good idea to treat overlapping metal with weld-through copper primer.

Great work overall. Is there any tips for flushing brake fluid after replacing the master cylinder? Did you pushed the piston of the master cylinder all the way in or just installed everything and did a regular flush? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I just did a regular flush with one person in the car presseing the pedal. Started with the wheel farthest from the master cilynder. It took some time to get all the air out. After that you also need to press the pedal a lot until the self adjusters seat corectly.

Thank you. This is the first Fiat 500 I'm working on, so I may not always do things in the best way.

Thx for the video! i just buy one fiat 500 and this kinf of video its amazing! one question, 0:08 To remove the cover and access the front pads is to remove the circular thing that is in the middle? i need to change the pads but i dont want to remove everithing by the moment! xD

Hello. To change the brake shoes(pads), you need to take off the brake drum, the one that the wheel is bolted to. In the front you have one central nut. After shoes are changed, the central nut needs to be replaced, tightened correctly and locked in place. In the rear its simpler, you have 4 bolts.
@omarsensei2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the quick answer! I will try to loosen it with a plumbing wrench... Would you know where I can find the central nut to replace it, I have searched some websites but I cannot find it, only the pads or some kits where it is not included ...

I bought lots of parts fron axel gerstl and passione500. I think they both have it. Be careful not to overtighten or the bearing will quickly get worn.

I need to replace the rear brake backing plates on my 500F. Does the axle need to come out? If so, can you describe the procedure? My Chilton's manual just skims over it.
@AircooledProject Жыл бұрын
You need to remove the 4 bolts of the driveshaft, then the big nut that holds the wheel shaft. Now, you can remove the hub and the plate by undoing the 4 bolts that hold it to the suspension arm. When reassembling, you will need a new crush spacer and a way to apply a lot of torque to the big nut in order to adjust the preload on the bearing. I used a pneumatic impact wrench. A long breaker bar also works.

Also, I have this video that should help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4Koc2yclLR8jqM&feature=share8

@@AircooledProject Thank you so much! I may have disassembled it in the wrong order, but, c'est la vie. I'm having a problem visualizing when the big nut gets torqued down. I have everything off but that one. It's not a castle nut with a cotter pin as some diagrams show. Rather, it has a raised knob on the end where the spring from the drive shaft rests against it.

I was in a hurry and didn't film the tightening process. I used a pneumatic impact wrench and tighten it a bit at a time while checking the load on the bearing as shown in the video at 6:37. You can also use a braker bar or long wrench, but you need to find a way to keep the axle from moving. Maybe another person can hold it.
