Merci Fabrice, je découvre ton mot. Beaucoup de voyages en 2023 : Inde du sud, Malaisie et Thailande (une fois de plus depuis 50 ans), Nouvelle Calédonie et Cameroun pour conclure la description de la nouvelle espèce d'Aracées que j'avais découverte en 1991 lors de la mission Radeau des Cimes. On ne sait pas encore où sera le prochain Field Trip...

I think some types of begonias have amazing adaptability including changing their physical features in just a few months. I once took a type of wild begonia with thin leaves and very flammable. but after a few months of growing in my garden then the leaf structure changed to thicken.

How can there so many species of plant growing on a roof, they look like they were intentionally planted there

All these plant species have very light dispersal units like tiny seeds in case or orchids or spores for ferns and mosses. Some other have small seeds defecated by bats or birds like for Ficus. The half cylinders of bamboos used for the roof perfectly retain particles thus creating humus. Moreover, at this altitude in the Toraja area there is a lot of rain and a very light dry season. Consequently, everything is perfect for the natural creation of these roof gardens.
