I received mine yesterday by mail, and I'm pretty impressed by the sound quality. I'm rediscovering many songs and the joy of the offline mp3 players of my young years. The only problem I have is with the music software, I feel it is not designed for a large music library, even if the machine is designed to hold up 512GB of music. For example, there is no scrolling down by letter in the artists page (so I have to scroll through nearly 500 artists to get to The Velvet Underground), while there is one for the songs page (why would they not simply add it to the artist's?). I would eventually work around the android software on the device and try to install the winamp player on my Fiio. I've been loving the winamp mobile app for many years and would like to see it on the Fiio. It would then become my favorite machine.

Just bought one, it's running firmware 1.07 atm out the box and sounds v good. Tested on denon full size over ear phones and a set of kz as06 balanced armature iems. A little underpowered straight thru to the denons but with a topping nx1s amp inline it's more than adequate. The kz's sound tremendous and a very good match for a well balanced neutral sound and they are so easy to drive.

@@LandsPlanes For what I can remember, the response of the system was better, and a part from being more thick overall was more compact. For example in x3 III you have a custom button below the volume buttons on the side, I configured it in order to play/pause. So I can play/pause with side button or main front button, the main button is takes about 0.5s to play/pause from the moment I press it, but the side button takes more than a second. Sometimes the system freezes for a couple of seconds after unlocking. Also still has the bug that skips the first 2 seconds of some songs.

Looking for a decent touchscreen player and I'm amazed so many of them have the 3.5mm jack at the top.. it's supposed to be able to go into a pocket right? A vertical touchscreen device goes into your pocket top first.

Thanks for your kind words and support! That's a tough question you've got there, as an amplifier itself shouldn't make a gigantic difference. But I agree, the X5iii is a bit too soft and forgiving for my tastes too. Instead of just an amp, what I can recommend is to rather pair the x5iii up with an external DAC such as the iFi xDSD. This should give you a better experience than just an amp.

Best tech review I've ever seen. Huge fan, subscribed, kudos... If I understand correctly at 11 minutes in, my Kenwood car stereo receiver's USB port will recognize this device if I go to Developer Settings/Select USB Configuration will allow it to recognize the FiiO m7 via USB instead of AUX cable? I'll find out soon enough once this ice storm resumes deliveries but would be great to hear if anyone can confirm!

Hey ! What would be the main pros and cons between the new M7 & the old X7 with the am5 amp? I listen mostly on a wireless senneheiser pxc 550, which supports aptx and could probably get the old X7 at fairly the price of the new M7. Which of these two would be worth it, in your opinion ? Thx !

In my opinion, the M7. The first X7 sounded very similar to the X5iii, and I find the M7 to suit my listening tastes more than the X5iii. I can't really answer you directly with regards to the AM5 module, but as a complete device I do prefer the M7. Better software, way longer battery-life.

If You don’t need the Bluetooth features and was to choose between M6 and M7 in terms of usability (including the blind navigation with the external buttons etc.), what You would choose? I am in a dilemma between M6/M7 and Sony A55. A55 may not have the DAC Chips like Fiio have but it appeals more as a more refined and nice product. Not sure if the sound quality between Fiio and Sony would be that drastic...also the output sound power. I am intended to listen mostly with in ear (something like KZ ZSX )

@@munimum Fiio makes a quality player, no doubt. All of their stuff is made with care, unlike some of these new companies. I'd love an Astell and Kern but the prices are just too high. I don't trust some of the new cheaper Android MP3 players, but maybe they're good, I dunno. I also notice Fiio never gives me SD Card formatting issues, transferring cards, unlike some other companies' players. I bought an AP80 and it sucked!

Very good review. When the product like Shanling M0, Hiby R3, Hidizs AP80 is available for cheaper than M7, it is nowhere . Mainly Shanling M0 offers much more than M7 for half of price. Even M7 lacks USB DAC feature. Sound wise they are same but Shanling M0 with more power. The main problem of M7 that they have included the Fiio music Android app which is still in beta mode and not mature enough like Hiby. Hope they com up with better spec and wifi connectivity along with Balanced port in their proposed M9. Still M7 doesn't justify the price.

Yes it does. I just bought a Hidizs AP80 and returned it because A. didn't sound that great B. first of all, it wouldn't even find most of the music on the SD card I was using from an older Fiio player, but nothing on it was in any weird format, mainly .wav and mp3. and C. the AP80 was just too small and the interface sucked. I instead just ordered the M7 because the quality of Fiio, I find, is a lot better than most other companies. And the size and build of this player seems 1000x better than the AP80. Plus I got one brand new for $90 today on eBay and they're not even available anymore on Amazon, which is dumb. Not even used or resellers!

Me: Newbie,Bought Sennheiser Momentum 2 True Wireless earphones it has Blue Tooth 5.1 Since MP3 players with 5.1 BT are rare & $$$. Was told that I can use MP3 with Blue Tooth 4.2 & Sennheiser 5.1 BT with the SAME audio quality. Will use MP3 ,ONLY will listen to uploaded KZbin songs SHOULD I still try to find MP3 player with 5.1?? Thank YOU.

Looks like they fixed most of the bugs with firmware updates. I'm really tempted to buy these, but I'm not sure they can drive my Sennheiser hd58x. The recommended impedance range is 16-100 ohms, but mine are at 150ohms. Should I be looking at this dap, or will these not drive my headphones?

For those type of headphones I would consider using a headphone amp (Fiio or otherwise) with the player. You'll get better sound, and tons of power. I use a Fiio MontBlanc amp, and also a newer Fosi Audio headphone amp, and both are phenomenal, and can drive ANY headphones.

I've got a fixed track list of about 25 songs that I use to listen to various types of sounds. Among these is Amber Rubarth's Novocaine, Grass Top, and Don't You... Melissa Menago, Little Crimes...Adele, Hello...Daft Punk, Get Lucky, Contact, Doin' It Right, Eagles, Hotel California...Eric Clapton, Tears In Heaven (Live)...Toto, Africa, Rosanna, Hold The Line. I bought a Fiio M7..Read my comments to Fiio head office.. Hi, Received item Fiio M7, however there is a waving signal on all FM programs, it is not locking in on the channels. I am surprised that such an expensive device cannot pick up channels clearly and stay locked onto them. The earphones I use are Sony...My Cowons player has no issues at all and will play stations clearly and anywhere...all my other devices pick up stations with no issues with my Sony earphones.....I bought your as I bought a Sony N45 player, however that had an auto set scan fault, and so I sent it back. This is so disappointing as the sound is good....I have bought two 5 driver earphones and thus I will see what happens with the signal on your player......I do not understand the boast of an FM chip that is poor...

There is a shuffle mode and you can play all tracks from a particular artist (so you should be able to shuffle them all), but I'm uncertain if this could be used for all tracks across multiple artists and other folders.

I don't know what the impedance or sensitivity of the Lowriders are, so I can't tell you for sure. But, most of these mass-produced consumer-grade headphones tend to have low impedance and high sensitivities, so the M7 should have enough power for them. But if I can be frank with you, if you're looking for an audio improvement, start with getting better headphones. The sound difference between players is nowhere near as big as the difference you can get between headphones

Eerrrm, that depends on what you mean by "works with apple OS". Do you mean that the device itself runs on iOS? If that is indeed what you mean, then you're stuck with something like the iPod Touch. This is one of the great things about Android, because it's open source you get a much wider variety of devices.

Thanks, I can now forget about Apple OS. I would like to be able to play a DAP through my Naim preamp and PSM speakers. Is there a way I could do that. I've been told I could use line out but the quality would be rubbish?

Why on Earth anyone would tell you that the quality form the line out is rubbish is beyond me. As long as your preamp has a single-ended (non-balanced) input (usually 3.5mm), the you should be good to go.

If you have the LG V30 then there really isn't any good reason why you should buy the Fiio M7. It might be slightly better with sensitive IEMs but that's about it.

Sorry but this Fii0 Mp3 Player sells for £198.03 on Amazon in England and looking at your review this device is terrible and also reading reviews of Amazon. You said on your review that scanning your songs is very quick but reading reviews from customers on Amazon they say that scanning takes forever.So either those customer FiiO M7's are faulty or you're misleading people,but either way looking at your this device involves to much headache for it to even work properly and it's £198.03 at the moment.Also if I'm right this review is a few years old but customers buying this device in 2021 are still having major issues all now. Having great sound quality and being able to drive powerful headphones doesn't mean a thing if a device is lousy Like this seems to be. I have a Surfans F20 Bluetooth Mp3 and I bought it for £123 if I remember rightly and admittedly it doesn't support android like the Fii0 M7 does,it's a basic Mp3 that more than plays my headphones loud enough,admittedly it's not as powerful as the Fii0 M7 but it works and the UI is straightforward and easy compared to the Fii0 M7 and also music playback is good..Sorry that I'm comparing this Fii0 M7 to another device but for £198.03 selling from Amazon in England this device is awful and also judging from your review and I'm sure Fii0 just have known about these drawbacks before they released the Fii0 M7 to the market. As ever a very thorough review by you but let down by terrible device.

To be fair, there are loads of people (myself included) that don't particularly care for streaming services, so it would be kinda pointless for us to pay for a feature if we're not gonna use it. Although, saying that, WiFi would still be nice if it meant we could get easy OTA updates to the device.
