Restoration of an old Nordic knife with a broken handle most likely from WW2. I believe it is from WW2 because of the blade shape, handle form and the way of assembly. Handle is made out of curly birch wood and I had to come up with a way to say it. Enjoy watching!

That knife is was made during world war 2. It's actualy made by swedish knifemaker from city of Mora in Sweden. Who ever owned it brought it from Sweden. Common name for knife you restored is Mora knife. It's high quality knife.

Yes i am. I am not expert either but finding sammi knife overseas is nearly impossible unless you buy it from knifemaker who can make it for you. Also look at the shape of the blade, sammi knives have bit different shape.

Another great restoration. I have used Tung, Danish and Boiled Linseed Oils but have settled on a 50/50 mix of Boiled Linseed Oils and methylated spirits. It dilutes the linseed and helps it penetrate quicker and deeper and it dries quicker. I find 3 or 4 applications of this, with a week to ten days to dry creates an excellent finish. Just a thought - we all have our preferences. I really like your work and your workshop. Reminds me of my grandfather's workshop in Australia long ago.

Hi! I enjoy your videos a lot, one of your shorts just popped up and I immediately noticed absence of power tools. I respect hand-crafted things a lot, and I think that this kind of crafts will never go away, even in our modern time of automation. As for the handle question, if I were to fix it, I'd probably use something like transparent epoxy resin, to preserve this "cracked, been in service, but still working great" look. That's not the exact purpose of your channel, though, as I see, and the way to fix it is based on the amount of material erosion, and I'm not good at judging that. Keep up the good work, best of luck!

@@ВеселийКовач the blade is made as a sandwich, layer of soft steel, layer of carbon steel and layer of soft steel. Soft steel outside is very easy to file with just any file while carbon steel in the middle is not. This is typical Scandinavian method of making blades, especially by hand. Awesome to hear that sir! I like your second option, it would look great with this blade for sure. Boiled linseed oil (BLO) is always a good option. I like to combine BLO and paraffin oil in 1:1 ratio. That way BLO goes deep in grain and paraffin oil gives good protection against stains.

and another excellent restoration, well done, all the hard work learning all this time is really paying off now, and with some added humour to the video as well, you really are getting very good at this vlogging lark, as for the handle, personally I would have glued the end back together with superglue and then filled gaps with superglue and sawdust and then oil treated the handle as you did, given it a quick sand and then coated the entire handle with thin superglue to give it some extra strength, that or do as you have or even a copper bolster, not that any of that really matters as the important part was to save the original wood and you did an excellent job of doing just that, again congrats on a superb job, and love to see even more new tools sneaking in and being used, brilliant to see that

Once again I am enjoying reading your comment and feedback. You captured the essence of this channel and my hat down for you sir. I like your approach for the repair for this handle and appreciate the detailed explanation for all steps. I have to be selective about material used in my videos to represent the correct period and therefore I have to ask. Can you think of some alternative for superglue that I could use to repair things as you described above? I haven't discovered anything like it, only a wood stabilizer liquid. But that is another topic. Thank you again, stay safe!

@@FFD_Restorations to be honest I can't find anything from the past to do as good a job as the modern stuff so guess that doesn't help you any lol, sorry, and as for what you do, I love the old ways of doing things, so much more satisfying than making and repairing modern things and you have nailed doing things the right way, love to see what you get up to so thank you
