So glad to have found a vlogger with hair struggles I can relate to !!! The 4C natural hair community is often associated with thick and strong voluptuous manes, but there are some of us with more fragile strands that suffer every time we comb and brush. One of my biggest struggles is sleeping without having partitioned my hair into neat twists and buns. When I leave my fro as it is, I wake up with a flat carpet the next day and it's so painful to comb out unless I have wash day pulling out all the stops of shampooing and conditioning etc. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, love your channel to bits!!
@zinni03354 жыл бұрын
Omg yes 😭 When people mention pineappling or going to sleep with a fro, I know that if I even happen to commit such an atrocity, I'm gonna wake up with an 1/2 inch long fro FILLED with tangles and knots.

Whenever I see a video title that says "fine hair" I click. Ethnicity, race, and hair type don't factor into my decision to click on a video. I am a white woman with super fine hair. I have visited many hair videos by white women. I have also visited many hair videos by black women (from silk pressing to defining curls) and am mesmerized. I can't tell you how much I suffered throughout my entire life - being white and not fitting into the white European model - I have always felt like an outcast. My hair AND individual hair strands are so thin they won't grow past my shoulders. They break easily. Can't pull it into a pony tail without seeing scalp. Was never EVER able to make a braid. Ever. I have to keep it shortish, layered and styled with a round brush to have some body. I've watched many of your videos, Danielle. You are a beautiful young lady and talented (love your voice!). And your hair? I hear you and understand your struggles (even though our struggles are attached to very different hair types). It looks VERY cute the way you have it in this video. It's got more body than I could ever possibly hope to have!
@iceunelle4 жыл бұрын
I'm also white and I have suuuper fine hair and low density. You can definitely see my scalp when I pull it back into a ponytail. It's so frustrating bc my hair just hangs there, no volume, won't stay in any styles. And it's so freaking delicate, ugh. I wouldn't mind having fine hair if it was at least thicker.
@ElizaDolittle4 жыл бұрын
@@iceunelle we sound identical ;-) And yes, it is frustrating!
@kate56ful4 жыл бұрын
I have fine hair too. Protein and moisture balance is what helps. Get a protein treatment once in a while to keep the hair strong so it doesn't break. Sparse hair can be due to our thin hair breaking and thin hair can be due to lack of protein. Some hair types are naturally more thinner/sparser than others, it's only a problem when it's at an unhealthy degree. The science-y hair blog and the greenbeauty channel really helped me a lot in learning about my fine and sparse hair. Try to search "hair thickness greenbeauty" & "hair density greenbeauty" on youtube. Her videos are very informative! kzbin.info/door/sjtadigSejJvFJOQh1myMw
@ElizaDolittle4 жыл бұрын
@@kate56ful Thank you! I will look into the link you provided. (I'm sure you are also including iceunelle in your suggestion). My problem is also an age factor. I'm in my mid 50s. My hair was always naturally thin and throughout my life I've had some periods of unhealthy imbalances that caused me to lose a lot of hair. But now I have to also include the age factor, when hair thins naturally. I use the Bosley laser comb. It's supposed to encourage regrowth. I don't see much in the way of regrowth but I DO notice that my hair does not fall out as much when I use it. Perhaps this can help the new hairs to grow alongside existing hairs and that's what they mean by regrowth, but I sometimes get lazy about using it. So I do it to myself
@anibunny1764 жыл бұрын

You don't have to detangle as much (or at all) also because you have low porosity hair. The cuticle is tightly closed so the hairs can slide past one another. I have high porosity hair which means my cuticles are flayed open which makes my hairs snag against each other and tangle no matter how many times I've detangled my hair.
@Doc_McStuffins4 жыл бұрын
Whew. Wish that was my life lol. I have fine strands, and very kinky 4c low porosity hair that tangles and cobwebs like nobody's business! It locs with shampoo, gets SSK if water looks at it. Just saying, not sure porosity affects tangling, at least not for me. That z curl I have on fine strands gives me plenty of knots. Ugh.
@MyPandaLuva4 жыл бұрын
Omg yes. I have dense fine, high porosity hair and every wash day is a battle zone. Jesus. Every strand is fighting with one another. I detangle with scissors and keep my hair in braids to prevent tangling 99% of the time. Ive given up on cute hairstyles. No time for that anymore. #lazynatural

Nourished like a sweet baby or a plant. When you are stressed, angry, agitated, or fussy, you are gonna end up jerking things around, holding on too tight, pulling too tight, not fully aware of what you’re doing, and not putting your hair’s needs first in mind. 🌸

@@harmonyae7033 It's hard everywhere. We were touched hard, even more than the USA comparatively to the population of France, because of the liberalization of hospitals and the desindustrialisation (we had no masks, no tests, not enough intubators ans scanners, no enough beds, people, etc). Now things are slowly going back to normal after the complete lock down that lasted two month but the unemployment is going up like in your country, a little bit less hard because the State paid the "partial unemployment" and when you loose your job, there is a social insurance for some time that keeps sending you a little bid of money. A mouvement against the violence and racism of the police, which was already pre-existing, has followed and become stronger now following what was going on on the USA. There is also a mouvement for better wages or the essential workers and for going back to a more socialized hospital organisation. I hope you can come and visit sometime when all this is behind us if we can pass this ^^

@kate56ful4 жыл бұрын
My hair is very similar to yours and the moment I found out (not too long ago smh) that it was meant to look like this naturally, I LITERALLY immediately stopped caring. That was such a biiiiiigggggggggggggg revelation to me in my natural hair journey. And I didn't discover that until age 24! I used to think there was something wrong with my hair because it didn't look like the others and I would always make a fuss about how to fix it. Now I know it's actually already perfect. Envying other hair types all the time seems pointless to me because I am who I am, I look beautiful wearing me and nothing's ever going to change that. My hair is good hair: It sprouts new growth out of my scalp everyday and it recoils when it gets wet, it's performing its genetic purpose. Hair-wise, I don't care about anything but preventing breakage because my hair is already good at everything. Beauty is a state of mind (but it is a privilege to have a mind that's healthy enough to have positive perceptions of one's self). However, it is shitty that natural hair representation is so one dimensional, this will not have a good effect on younger black girls.

Girl, I have low-medium density, fine, low porosity similar to yours. I love your videos and honestly. Here are some of my notes that I've learned on this hair journey. 1) The dreadlock community has way better advice than the natural hair community. Especially for our fine, low porosity and low density hair. 2) skip conditioner once in a while because is meant to close the hair shaft making low porosity hair even lower porosity. It wont ruin your hair that's how people start dreadlocks they dont condition their hair for like 6 months and the hair stays healthy. 3) mixing your own products works best because then you can keep it lightweight but ensure each ingredient has its purpose. Honesty store products have fillers and preservatives (to make profit) thus they are either A) so thick they can't penetrate the hair shaft and so just add weight to the making it more likely to break B) so thin that they evaporate before they can even penetrate the sharft All in one LOC/LCO recipe: Equal parts filtered water (for moisture), vegetable glycerin (it's a humectant so actually retains moisture) and oil (to seal in the moisture), plus a few drops of lavender and peppermint oil (stimulate blood flow and healing of the scalp). Put it All in one spray bottle, spray when your hair feels dry 4) get a massage oil set to test out the different oils to see what works best for you 5) When my hair is still dry or I want it extra juicy I mix water and aloe vera gel and apply liberally after the all in one spray. I hope this helps because I've been through your struggles and it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Love from the UK ❤❤❤

But I could not practice on my own head because there would have been no hair if I persisted. I didn’t want to wear protective hairstyles all the tine. Straggly twists/braids are not an aesthetic I appreciate on myself. I also have a big head - not cute. Brushes ? 🏃🏿♀️ 🏃🏿♀️🏃🏿♀️ I found when my hair got longer my knots would be harder to detangle because my fine strands really loved each other.and created an Afro hair spaghetti junction, which I would often need to snip. In the end developing patience yields rewards and will aid in retaining length. I have been natural since 2002. I have cut my hair several times. My longest length was bra strap. I believe I can go further. It is not impossible to grow king hair, you have to treat our type like antique silk. Handle gently. I hunted for years for someone similar Thin low density hair. The only two I know are BeautiFroHair and Bola Cooper. Adedè has low density hair too. You may like to look them up.

I have a similar hair type to yours except mine is high porosity. The sheddening is a monthly occurrence for me especially when my iron levels drop (this is the 2nd time in 4 years!). It really discouraging and learning to love my 4c hair is a challenge with the constant breakage. However, I am just thankful to have hair and am trying to be grateful for what I have. It a work in progress but we will get there! Thanks for this valuable information!

"Brushes don't want me to be great" was the reason I paused the video to get RID of my 8-year-old brush. Could not take my eyes off that necklace. In the space of about 1 second, I thought of 20 different outfits that would work with that necklace. Oh, and Star Puppy DOES have a "Full Figure Fro." Now, I want one just like hers.

I think one of the biggest contributions of the natural hair movement for all people is to champion the idea that what your hair brings to the party is the primary figure-out of hair care, not what you want your hair to be--what your hair is.

You are a STAR. Love your personality! Thanks for the hair tips! I have the same hair type and I’m just now getting a road map as to how to handle it.

I have very fine, dry, graying 4c hair, which is thinning in a male pattern. I kept it styled and covered it for over 30 years with wigs for volume. I'm taking the plunge, I'm going platinum (slowly to protect my hair) to give it the appearance of volume, getting a face framing cut and wearing it styled wet with butters, creams and moisturizer.

Hey Danielle, your wash and go just keeps getting better and better!!!! I love to see type 4 wash and gos, I wish I would have found that style earlier in my natural hair journey.
