Love me some Billy. "The Stroke" remains my favorite of his just because of one of the catchiest riffs of all time. "In the Dark" is also a banger, as is "Emotions in Motion", "Rock Me Tonite" and "Don't Say You Love Me". So glad you are diving down this rabbit hole! (Also - he had a Christmas song, so write this down for when December rolls around - "Christmas Is the Time To Say I Love You".)

Billy Squier wrote one of my favorite lyrics in this song. "You've got your glory. You've paid for it all. You take your pension in loneliness and alcohol." The steep price of fame. Emptiness. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world only to lose his own soul?
@RockPowerUSA
@RockPowerUSA 2 жыл бұрын
I agree and that phrase sums it all up perfectly. As long as you don't keep dipping into alcohol later then you can be immortal like some of the bands out there. Old guys still cranking in out, not on illegal drugs, but regular medical prescription drugs to shake those aging aches off. I am so glad I was born in the 60s listening to songs growing up and now sharing that with our young couple giving us three times a day Play rekindling some of our best memories.

Billy was huge and insanely popular. He was all over the radio and MTV until he released Rock Me Tonight. Billy was known as a rock guy and his video came across to his base of fans as less than rock and people questioned his sexuality. He lost a lot of his base, even though it was total BS. I love that song and video.

"The Stroke" NEEDS to be your next Billy Squier song - followed by "My Kinda Lover," "Emotions In Motion, "In The Dark," "Don't Say No" and "I Need You." + it's been far too long since you've reacted to The Police/Sting! Please consider bringing them back on the channel! "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," "Don't Stand So Close To Me," "King Of Pain," "Wrapped Around Your Finger," "Roxanne," "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da," "Message In A Bottle," are fantastic Police songs (their music vids are always a must) and Sting's solo career is amazing, I think Amber will really love his solo music especially: "Brand New Day," "Englishman In New York" and "The Shape Of My Heart" are a great place to start. "I Burn For You" is a personal favorite, his performance in Brimstone And Treacle, the movie the song is in, is so creepy. Sting was originally a teacher as well! ✌🏻💚✨

Love Billy. Saw him for Pat Benatar, at Red Rocks. Wow what a show that was. Lonely is the Night, has some of Billy's signature riffs. Another band from this time frame is the Call. Great stuff from them. Thanks again.

Yes, My Kind of Lover and The Stroke should be next. Love me some Billy.

Although he didn't have the same level of success as some of the other artists of the 1980's, some of his songs are absolute rock anthems in every sense of the word.

Next Billy Squier? THE STROKE!!! Easily his best banger. "My Kinda Lover" next, and then "Emotions in Motion" would be the way I would go!

I just noticed your B.B. King t-shirt, Amber…… he was from my hometown (Indianola, Ms). He would do an outdoor concert every summer back home. Had the chance to meet him several times (several autographed t-shirts😎). After the concert in the park, he would then play at Club Chicago in town. You were fortunate to get in there on those nights, I was lucky enough to go once.

In this song he's talking about the trappings of fame. At this point he had been a successful music artist for about 7 years so he was well aware, however after the mega success of his prior album (Don't Say No), it really became obvious.

Amber, you nailed it! Yes, the song is about being in the spotlight. I'm so glad y'all are digging some Billy Squier. He's so underrated. Keep 'em coming. You guys rock! 🤘 OH! And thank you for spelling 'Squier' correctly. I mean, it's been misspelled many many times thru the years, but you'd be surprised how many people spell it wrong (Squire) even when it's right there in front of them! Lol. 😉

I second the notion of giving Queen's Dragon Attack a listen to. The bass lines will melt your brain 🤘. John Deacon is the most amazing bassist ever. And a heck of a song writer as well.

I know it is way early, but for Christmas you need to react to "Christmas Is A Time To Say I Love You" by Billy Squire, and "Step Into Christmas" by Elton John.

The lines in this song..."days at the mirror, patching up around the seams", and "you take your pension in loneliness and alcohol" emphasize the downside of extreme popularity!

I just listened to this in the kitchen while I was washing dishes...lol. It turns out you wash the pots way faster listening to this. Pretty much every song on this album was aimed at the bloodsuckers, hangers on, and users in the music business. It's a lot deeper than it appears.

Amber…you are amazingly spot on…and most often with the pieces that don’t jump up at us as readily apparent..you have a real talent for getting to the heart of the matter in every song… I am really glad that you guys don’t just talk about what the song is about…heck most of us know what it’s about!1…it’s “how it’s about what it’s about “..that matters…and you clearly seem to know that.. further though…it should be said in no small measure just how together, trim and elegant you have become in these few months…you both must be really happy how many changes you have come through in one short year…I mean I can hardly recognize you…possibly given that I started your catalogue of reactions with your earliest ones. This is great to see…and it just keeps getting better…

I love Billy Squier, especially the Don’t Say No album that this song is from. Another band you’ll live is Y&T. You really need to give the people what they want and what you need. Listen to Y&T. Start with Black Tiger, Mean Streak, Rescue Me or Open Fire. The guitars are incredible, the drums are so powerful and Dave Meniketti’s voice will make your ears happy.
