You know, I have a great deal of respect for Jonathan. On a lot of these “expert reacts” style shows you get people that are sometimes dismissive or ignorant towards tropes that exist to make media more engaging. No shade to any of them mind you. Still it’s nice that we have someone that understands both the worlds or gaming and real guns and can meld those interests so perfectly.

One thing Destiny has gotten right from the very beginning is that aside from functionality the gun designs are very unique and interesting to look at and use. Even when they were clearly inspired by real world guns they still managed to throw enough sci-fi fantasy space magic into it to make it look good and be interesting, especially in terms of gameplay mechanics. The Exotic's are obviously the ones they put the most effort into but even some of the lower rarity guns are really cool

The way the bolt on the Multimach is designed is due to the fact that all legendary weapons of the same type use the same reload animation, most of the SMGs in the game have that standard bolt sticking straight up design, but because the multimach’s side bolt needs to use the same animation as those guns it has that extra metal arch over the top. So it’s a mechanical design solution for an animation problem, which is kinda backwards from how it usually goes lol

Something important to understand some of the design cues is that the more exotic (hehe) designs get their own animations, while more common weapons like the Multimach use pre existing animation sets for their archetype. So non-exotic weapons often have to be designed to look interesting but also fit existing animations because there are a lot of them in the game.

As commented on the previous video, Destiny 2 is explicitly a science fantasy, so "it's magic" is actually an acceptable response to how something might work. Also add commented previously, the character controlled by the player is not a soldier or even a green beret so much as they are a Knight of the Round Table, so a lot of the embellishments (like that extra fancy holographic sight) exist to denote status (especially for the exotic weapons) or to otherwise separate them from what would be considered the rank-and-file

@@fierytepig155 Exactly. That's what I was referring to. MIDA was a Martian Company that sided with Insurrectionists in the Marathon Series. The MIDA weapons were considered "unknown" to the Destiny verse because they never existed there, which is cause for confusion in The Guardians. Zavala has a log on the MIDA lore, where he and Ikora were trying to figure out about MIDA, and why it doesn't line up with what they know. It's also why the MIDA weapons are the ultimate in survival tools. They needed to be to keep the Rebels they were given to alive.

A point on Sturm and Drang is that they're meant to be references to the Golden Gun of James Bond and Han Solo's blaster in Star wars. They also have a fascinating lore behind them, worth reading. It's important to remember that weapons in the Destiny universe aren't merely weapons, but have inherited some degree of myth about them. They're works of art and are often implied to have some spiritual or personal significance to the Guardians who are wielding them. This is why they trend towards the ornate and less practical design, excusing questions of functionality by saying (essentially) faith makes them work.

I know there's already 3 episodes of Tarkov but there's some interesting stuff there to show that might please Jonathan: 1: Weapon malfunction, there's 3 types of them and each weapon has a unique animation of fixing it, bullpups are really fun 2: When you shoot a weapon with a scope which is set to the minimum (50m) at really close range (few meters) the bullets don't go where the reticle is, since the scope is set to 50m. 3: There's also the height over bore problem, you might have a clear sight through the scope but the barrel is obstructed and it hits the obstruction. 4: Addition of rangefinder 5: Double barrel shotgun and it's correct reloading animations 6: Thermal sights Another game suggestion would be the killzone franchise. It shows the unified design philosophy of dark bullpup cylindrical magazine weapon of the Helghast vs the modern conventional design of ISA

While I agree with this in most situations, I do feel that there are some situations where bugs should be kept as features to enhance the game. The magazine on that 'space tommy gun' is really blatantly based on an analogue rotary timer switch- the kind people sometimes get to turn their lights on and off when they're away so they don't get burgled. One thing to note is the lore for some of these weapons does give context to their creation or function (not usually both) Cerberus was a kitbash of 4 different rifles (including all the barrels) while Mida Multitool was from a parallel reality from the Destiny Universe. Also some weapons that deal element based damage use a different ammo system than the Kinetic weapons. Ikelos weapons to my knowledge are the only compact laser weapons we see (these also have visible heat sinks that may or may not glow as you fire), alongside the Trace Rifles and Fusion Rifles. Then there's Omolon that use "liquid ammunition"
