Great help, you are the only one to mention that usb storage will not show in file manager app, if set to system storage. Many hours spent trying to resolve something that wasn't wrong.

Best of many presentations on this subject. I made several attempts installing the cable and USB drive prior to powering up my Fire Stick 4K Max and the additional storage could not be found. After viewing your video, I noted that you installed the cable first and then powered up the Fire Stick prior to inserting the USB drive. I followed this installation sequence and the formatting screen appeared and the installation proceeded smoothly. I also followed your instructions regarding moving apps to this new storage location and found that very few of my apps can be moved.

I think you've answered my question of why I can't see the USB drive in Xplore when formatted to 'Device storage'. You are the only person I've found so far who has explained that the storage allocation is 'private' and won't show up in Xplore. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out this thing. Here's the question I've posed to several videos: Does anyone have this dilemma? I have one Firestick w/OTG cable and 16GB Sandisk USB, one Firestick with UGreen USB hub ethernet connected and 16GB Sandisk USB. I've downloaded Xplore on both and am unable to see Device Storage. I can format for External storage and the USB's show up in Xplore. I've tried everything I know to do, but at this point I have no solution. Both Firesticks are running OS7.

I have the correct usb device and my firestick is an OS 6 one. I tried disconnecting all the leads to the firestick for a few minutes and its working fine again now, tge apps are visible again. Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade the OS and you cannot add apps to the external storage on Fire OS5. Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with a 2nd Gen Firestick or any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise the ADB commands. You can watch this video to help you to add external storage to your Fire OS 5 device so that you can at least use that storage if you do things like download content from apps for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goKaf5Rjnd-YjpY If you are looking to upgrade: the 4K Max, 4K Firestick, 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick and the Lite Fire TV Stick are all capable of expanding the storage. Question: Which type of mini wireless keyboard with a trackpad works better (eg with better connectivity, more precise tacking, scrolling, etc) with a Firestick 4K Max? A “Bluetooth” one or the RF 2.4 ghz-based dongle kind? I just bought a Bluetooth based Fosmon brand which various sites recommended for the Firestick and which has Bluetooth 3.0. I find it doesn’t track very precisely with the track pad and it’s cursor. I’m wondering if I should return it and buy an RF 2.4 GHz one, but then I’d also have to buy an OTG cable with 2 USB ports. I’m currently using an OTG adapter to plug in my USB flash drive for extra storage. Is it worth switching? If the dongle kind is better, can you plug the dongle into an OTG cable which has 2 USB ports (simultaneously using the second port for a USB flash drive to expand the internal storage on the Firestick)?

If you are using additional USB storage, it's probably best to stick with the Bluetooth keyboard. You can use a multi USB hub to use an RF keyboard AND your additional USB storage but it is not guaranteed to work with newer Firesticks. Many users have reported issues with 1 port working but not the other.

If your storage device exceeds 32GB and you're using it with a Fire OS 6 device, you'll need to format it manually. On the other hand, if you're using Fire OS 7, the formatting may be done automatically.

I think the problem is that the USB pins I purchased do not make good contact with the female connector of the OTG cables (neither of the two I tried and... the second one came with two cables in the package and with neither both worked). Finally point out that the64Gb usb was FAT32 formatted. Greetings!

Hello, I have a big question. I have expanded via an ugreen hub and a 32 gig USB with a 50 percent partition on a firestick 4K with OS version 6. Everything has been fine but my question is about the problem most of us have with application cache. Is the cache memory going to stop being a problem now? If an application is installed on the internal memory of the firestick, would the cache data of that application necessarily be stored in that memory and therefore we would still have problems or would it be stored in the space we have allocated to it on the external storage? In the first case, would we then have to move the applications that have more cache memory to the external partition that we have created? Thank you very much for your videos. Hi. As far as I know, no matter where the application is installed, all cache will always be stored on the internal memory.

You videos are always much more in depth. Unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones. I have a 128 GB Drive Formatted with the AOMEI app to Fat32, OTG Cable, and even put in a way more powerful power supply than needed to make sure I had enough power. I have FO 6 and I can not even see the drive using sm list-disks but works fine on my computer so I know the drive is in working condition. Drive is also a USB 3. I also can not see it in the file explorer either. Any thoughts beyond the video to check or try? Thanks

As far as I am aware, pre-installed apps cannot be removed. Pre-installed apps are not very likely to have the ability to transfer to USB storage. Once you have allocated your USB storage to additional system storage, within the Settings / Applications / Manage Installed Applications / select any app and if it can be moved to the USB storage, you'll see an option within this menu. What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I had many questions to I could not find the answer anywhere (e.g., why am I not able to see the internally formated USB stick in x-plore). However, I still have a question: Assume that I've been able to format a 128GB usb stick as internal memory for the fire stick. I managed to move certain apps (e.g., netflix, disney, some ip tv player) to it (it shows the USB symbol next to the app). However, I would expect each time when I download a movie or tv show locally in these apps, that they will be stored in my USB stick. However, this does not seem to be the case: the internal memory is almost full, and the external one still pops up as 128 GB / 128 GB free. My bet is that one the apps themselves are installed on the USB drive, but the downloaded files still are stored in the internal storage. Am I missing something? Sometimes I still think whether the easiest solution is to get rid of the stick and directly plug a micro pc into the tv

Yes, relying on additional storage for your Firestick device may not always be the best option. It can be a complicated and frustrating process. This is because some applications lack the necessary permissions within their coding to allow downloaded files to save to external storage. In some cases, you may have to manually access the settings of an application to change the default download location for files. A micro PC sounds like a good solution. Running Firestick 4k Max with OS-7.6.6.4, using OTG cable set up as instructed, I have Formatted USB to Fat32, but the USB Memory Stick will still not be recognised by Firestick 4k Max. I have also tried Connecting the USB Stick to a port hub as well and that still shows no USB Stick. I have tried RESET and REBOOT, I have tried the following USB Sticks: Kingston and DataTraveller at the moment. Will let you know how I go on with others later! - I even tried another OTG cable and another hub, still no external storage showing. Awesome videos and Channel too!

If your Firestick runs on Fire OS 6, it is not the Fire TV Stick 4K Max but rather the Fire TV Stick 4K. Once done, you can return to this video and move apps to the newly partitioned USB storage.

I never get ADB Shell to give a redline showing it is finished, so I wait as ADB's cursor blinks and eventually the Firestick goes to sleep. Yes, I already changed the screen saver to NEVER, but eventually the Firestick goes to sleep and I have never seen the finish red line of ADB Shell so I never know if my 1TB 2.5" Drive that I put in Orico hard drive case is actually formatted correctly for the Firestick. I also checked in ADB Shell using df -h and it doesn't look as if ADB has done it's job. Any suggestions?

Here are a few things to check to help discover why nothing is happening. Ensure your storage is formatted to FAT32. Check your IP address to ensure it is correct and hasn’t changed. Check you have input the IP Address correctly. Try entering the local hostname instead of your IP Address. Enter 127.0.0.1 and try again to connect. Unplug everything, including your Firestick and power supply. Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug everything back in and try again. Go into Settings and turn off ADB Debugging. Then, turn it back on and try again. Check which version of Fire OS is running on your Firestick. You can only use Remote ADB Shell with Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6, 7 and 8.

If I select the record button will the fire stick put the recording on the USB drive or the internal storage as default. As we all know there isn’t much space in the internal space. If it defaults to the internal storage is there a way to get it to put the recorded program on the USB instead?

Hello Tonya. I have a Version 7.774 and 4k max firestick. I accidently deleted my apps on my usb flash drive and now my firestick won't even recognize my old flashdrive. I have also tried a brand new flash drive and formated it to FAT 32 and my firestick won't recognize that at all either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Using a 64GB san disk flash drive.

Can you see it in X-plore? Try removing all attached hardware and reassembling it. It could be a loose/dodgy connection.

I have a 3rd gen 4k firestick with OS 6.7.0.4 .....is there a way to resolve ADB Shell connection failure? Both ADB Debugging and Apps from unknown sources are both set to 'on' but connection fails when running adb shell.

As far as I know, a software update has caused issues with ADB Debugging, making it impossible to add storage to a Fire OS 6 device at this time. I don't know when this is likely to be fixed, sorry.

Yes, this can be an issue when disconnecting your firestick. You can fix this issue by one of 2 ways: 1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST. 2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Then when everything has loaded back up, plug your external memory in. One of these methods should resolve this for you. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

To install apps on your USB storage, you must format it as additional system storage. All apps installed will install to the external storage as a default unless the app does not have permission to do so.

I havetried everything. Have brand new 4k max, new 2TB hard drive, added power supply, and otg adapter. firestick loads up fine, but when I connect the hard drive, firestick doesn't see it. Formated the drive to fat32 on my laptop, still will not see it.which left me two options - either the otg usb port is bad, or the cable is bad. I switched out both. With the original otg and cable the hard drive just blinked, and was not seen. with the replacements connected, the firestick rebooted on its own as soon as I plugged up the hard drive. still doesn't see it. I need help.

yes it is the new firestick. I have ordered the thumb drive you have linked, and will try that. One thing I will say the new 4k max has better compression. I have everything loaded on it that was on my old one, and stll have over half the storage left, whereas with the old one, I was always fighting to keep available storage at 1GB.

First I updated my OS to 7 and I am using the Amazon Ethernet Adapter with a OTG Cable for my USB drive. I have not be able to get the USB to be recognized on the Firestick. So I tried connecting the power cord into ethernet adapter and then into the OTG cable/USB then into the 4k firestick. This worked but then I some how lost my ethernet adapter and I back on Wi-Fi.

Unable to access apps installed on the flash drive. Has been working great for the past few months but I’m now getting a message saying that the app I’m trying to access cannot be seen because it is on an external drive that needs to be plugged in to my Firestick. It is plugged into my Firestick 4K but all of a sudden I am unable to access them. Any suggestions? As I said everything was working great but suddenly it’s not.

There are two ways to potentially fix the issue you're experiencing. The first method involves powering down and unplugging all devices, then reconnecting them before turning them back on. Make sure to plug in the power source last. The second method involves unplugging all devices and excluding any external memory. First, plug in the Firestick and power it up without the external memory. Once everything has loaded, plug in the external memory. Either of these methods may solve your problem. Unfortunately, you cannot add extra storage and install apps on it using a 2nd Gen Firestick or any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system. Strange problem here. Formatted 128 gb sandisk with fat32 using rufus. plugged in usb with adapter, which was located by firestick max as external. went into storage, saw usb, chose format as internal. says it does it, but when i go back to storage, continues to appear as external.

My 4K FireStick running OS6. I have formatted the USB as FAT32 for system use. I have installed various apps on the USB and they run. My USB drive is about 20% used (df -h) and I have 3Gb free space showing in the about menu->storage. I have an issue updating apps, where the 4K FireStick complains there is not enough space. Do you have any tips on how to solve this?

Unfortunately, this does appear to be an issue. Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app. Or you can move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage.
